- Film has the power to change the way we think about ourselves and our culture. Documentarian and TED Fellow Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy uses it to fight violence against women, turning her camera on the tradition of honor killings in Pakistan. In a stirring talk, she shares how she took her Oscar-winning film on the road in a mobile cinema, visiting small towns and villages across Pakistan -- and shifting the dynamics between women, men and society, one screening at a time.

”If you speak the truth, i will stand with you, and so will the world.” Powerful words.
Unless you have an entirely opposite political opinion, you're cancelled.
Jibberish.
People rarely speak the thruth anymore in leftist, libtard woke politics, when instead get mad at somebody with their childish emotions, when somebody else speaks the thruth, that is diffrent from their opinion.
hot garbage,pure self motivation jibberish
12:01 "Children are changing the way they see the world, one village at a time, through cinema." Such an inspiring talk! This is not what I anticipated at all. I'm so greatful passionate leaders like her are exposing the terrible oppression of women through religion, especially in rural communities. Keep up the great work so the next generation might actually have a chance at true equality.
👍🏻🙏🏼😘
Equality ain't the solution. Equity is
@@NikosM112 Sounds interesting, please elaborate.

@@aaronmizzouThis woman means nothing, she’s a corporate puppet at the end of the day.
Feminism is fake, conservatives are stupid, at the end of the day we’re all slaves to a bunch of corporate dogs and their machines.
Wow, what a strong and courageous woman. This is truly touching.
HAHAHAHA
theres nothing strong or courageous about her
Professional man-hater....nothing strong OR courageous there.
*However, she will bomb Star Wars like anything*
You always say this to any feminist, that will scream at anybodys face, like childish rat, when they have diffrent opinion, than she has.
We are all visual beings.. Films really leave an image in ur mind that is powerful enough to stay in ur subconscious for a long time! '
Films are also used for negative false propaganda against many countries. US against Russia. India against Pakistan
@@hamzamehmood1976 especially SRK's latest film
It depends on how good the movie is. If its woke political bullshite with bad story line and forgettable charchters. Then people dont really remember the movie that well, when people remember more easily what happened in good movies with great story like and likeable charchters.
This is the same woman who's gonna be heavily involved in the upcoming Rey film. A film absolutely NOBODY is excited about.
💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I salute to your courage and initiative for changing the society.
Thank you for doing what you are doing.
Her father was a man, did she enjoy making HIM feeling uncomfortable? Or is just the others?
She is a legend and ofcourse a responsible Pakistani. Lots of love from a pakistani.
Fire Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from working on Star Wars or any future projects!!!
Imagine a male director purposely stating the goal of their films is to make women uncomfortable.
We won’t be watching anything she is attached to.
Thanks for your selfless contributions for women rights
have been touched by your dedication...
Let’s see an inversion of roles. Those men who have ruled to instill fear and dread in the hearts of women should abide by their doctrines. How long before revolting ? Every point, even to wear women’s clothing, the limited relationships and non-freedom.
Seeing as you like making men uncomfortable, let's see how bad your movie is going to flop. 2/3 of star wars viewers (paying customers) are male. Good luck with that
I just adore her self taken responsibility in transforming lives of people. 😍😍😍😍
Thank you, for every thing you have done
Plz make another film on an other victim she is a survivor Dr Afia Siddiqui also.
If you are so brave and truthworthy and play a positive role through cinama.then your thruth will be considered
What a breakthrough done by loyal and genius people who could successfully change poeple and the way they think.
This may be a great talk, but the title is deceptive. I came here expecting something about visual perception.
Me too. When it's over, I'm going back to ACIM....
As a rule, don't take the titles on TED literally.
@Aviri Char Titles are supposed to be indicative of the body of the work -- informative -- not just what somebody "feels" like calling it. This title is weak and unclear. It's not as bad as those used in obvious click-bait, but it's a poor title and TED, especially, is capable of better. The fact that it is not a good title indicates laziness and/or intent to mislead.
@Aviri Char I have no idea how you came to be in this state or why you're spending so much time on such a small matter, but you make it clear that you are broken. Get help. Soon.
Proud of you Sharmeen.Keep working. Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰✌👍❤
"Violence against women" - Lol. As if women were just born yesterday (like dropped into this world like Mr. Bean or something)
"Accountability is kyrptonite to women" - the late Kevin Samuels.
This is a fantastic mission. Anything that changes hearts and minds in a positive direction is good. I wish more female activists put their energy into these kinds of projects.
Unfortunately films are mostly used to change minds in a negative direction. Like Bollywood vilification of Pakistan
It’s so perfect. How one people, one idea and one team can change so many lives. Congratulations! And thanks for share!
But this leftist mob is not really changing anybodys life, expect for the worse with their trash political agenda movies.
In my village a person killed his daughter and her husband when she ran away with him. Even she was pregnant 😢.
The court released him after a couple of months. This is not justice.
No matter why Kathleen Kennedy hired her. She is just making more lies than anything.
Wait that’s the thing that is going to direct the new Star Wars. What is that thing anyways?
Yeah…the way Disney is run now, I am not surprised this wretched woman is directing the next Star Wars movie. Nail in the coffin!
A great talk. Important. We need more thoughtful discourse like this, about paying attention to what is really happening.
spectacular story, It made me want to volunteer to be on the team.
Courageous, Dynamic and Loving woman! God, Bless her forever-
the title of this video-talk underestimates and makes injustice with the importance and the interest it provides
I'm really going to enjoy watching her star wars movie make half its budget at tge box office 😂. It's a great strategy to openly tell the world you hate half of humanity based on their gender in order to get people to go see your movie😂. Interesting strategy let's see how it works out for her😂
Sadly her past has consumed her. Little does she know that men are different in every culture. I dont believe men in western culture oppress women but she would sure like everyone to believe that. The new star wars films she is in charge of will certainly have something referencing to honour killings.
the worst director in the world
I love love love her. She is one of my most respected idols and I just wish I could spend even 1 hour to speak to her 121.
Wow,what a brave women,Respect From China
And they're gonna have this bint F up Star Wars even more than it already has been.
Awesome! This is my favorite TED conference so far.

Thank you sharmeen.
You have completely changed my view of watching films. The thing you did is really more inspirational.
Even I would like to do something about honour killing and one more thing I would like to tell you is that make a film on dowry system in India.
There is nothing really that inspirational in movie maker, that only cares to show women in movies, without caring about good story like or likeable charchters, that are not all powerful out of nowhere.
Not once did she fall off the stage and sprain an ankle. Itz too bad.
Amazing work!!!!
Now she’s doing Star Wars super cool

A lot of folks in our own country dislike her for showing the dark side of our country which is really sad. She is an inspiration and really strong woman!
An outstanding achievement by a very determined and courageous person. Iconic.

Amazing 👏 a great spread of info video shown within rural villages of Pakistan .Hope there is more support given to women and also to other minorities living in Pakistan.
As she gets sponsored by Disney 😂
This reminds me of the "the girl effect" movement. Very important, and very powerful in a way that people don't necessarily think of as ways to help.
Wow, amazing.
Hey documentary is very thought provoking and fantastic. The young woman's story is gut wrenching. Everyone should see it.
That's my friends mom btw

Call your friend to let her know that she should actually talk about the movies instead of virtue signalling /s
Need more people in "film" like her, because while she is an amazing example of an artist in film, it is also "film", aka "Hollywood" that's at the root of so many societal problems. It is what influences popular, drug and crime cultures. It is what makes fun of people who maintain a particular set of principals, morals, values, of any stripe.
woke 🤮🤮
Mam , please visit someday with your moblie cinima, the areas before gilgit in between bisham to chilas you will see the life of women more volnarable then honour killing.
Thank u, u are an amazing woman for doing this project.

Be blessed, let's all filmmakers explore the peace and harmony to all continents
Excellent! We underestimate the power of cinema ...it can truly change the World. Just imagine if we start making more movies which promotes love peace and brotherhood instead of hatred violence and intolerance ..it would make our World such a lovely place. Violence is a very contagious disease..movies like The Kashmir files has nothing meaningful to contribute to the society ..all it does is propagate more communal hatred and division by portraying one entire sect of the society as villians which is so not true. Singapore took a bold step by banning this movie and rightly so. High time we stop the hatred by continuously reminding people of what happened in past and start envisioning a beautiful future of love and peace ✌️.
Violence is something natural. A movie can’t change it.
Türkler bunu sebebsizce beğensin yabancılar merak etsin
When my bipolar was at its peak..I seriously thought all the films in the world is about me...as I thought I am a goddess....it all started with movie solo.....now I know it is wrong...my life is not a fiction...the movie world is not about me...it is more of human imaginations
My point is accepting our own illness is not a weakness..it is more about understanding more about myself
99% of the violence in filmis perpetrated against Men. So when you complain of violence against women in films you’re just showing your gynocentrism

I have noticed that film is loaded with actors, actresses and myths. I find most documentaries to be heavily biased at best, and downright misleading or outright lying at worst. Honor killings are tied heavily to honor societies. The family doesn't just decide willy nilly to kill a family member. Rather it is the society that places great social pressure on the family to address the cultural transgression. Such a woman places a great social burden on her family clan through her selfish actions. I obviously don't promote such actions, rather I try to understand why things are the way they are. These types of things only happen in societies that have clans and castes. I don't think life imprisonment would deter people from honor killings. The killer will sacrifice themselves to save their clan.
