    Less than 48 hours before the Derby, the #20 horse, Ethereal Road, scratched. This allowed #21 Rich Strike to enter the race. Rich Strike was not even supposed to be in the race. His odds of winning at the time the race started were 80-1. He wasn't on anyone's radar.

    My greatest memory of my relationship with my mother was watching the Kentucky Derby with her every year. She took it seriously, dressing up in her Sunday best, even though we were just watching it on TV. And the greatest of these was watching Secretariat bring it home in 1973 when I was just eight years old. Both me and my mom nearly lost our voices we were screaming so loudly, much to the bewilderment of my younger siblings and asshole of a step-dad. We did the same thing for each leg of the triple crown that year. But even greater is my memory of the Belmont. We screamed during the first two thirds of the race, but during the last third we both fell silent, stunned at what Big Red was doing on the track. At the end of that race both me and my mom were crying. I have had very few passive moments in my life where my heart was beating that fast. My poor mother was shaking with excitement. Even my younger sister, who didn't understand what was happening, began to cry. It was an historic moment. I remember that my mom had three wishes: To visit the Colliseum in Rome, To ride with John Wayne, and to go to the Kentucky Derby. Unfortunately, none of those things happened for her. But my mother, for years afterward, talked about the races we watched together. I hope that wherever she is, she can ride in open fields and feel the wind on her face.

    I never knew the Derby was all inclusive.🤔 Maybe I'll finally go to one. Interesting to see all the different areas and new concessions and how the facility has been improved. I was there in 1988 when I was young for the Breeders Cup and OMG we all came away with the same impression - what an absolute dump! Seriously, my grandfather said the men's room toilets were from the 1930's. I like the race footage from your location where you can see the move by Rich Strike to get around Messier just outside the eighth pole and see Sonny Leon riding like an absolute wild man in an all out drive. Nice work. Cheers.

    Thank you ! This is on list of things to see . Questions, 1. Did you make bets? Did you win ? What do the rooms avg in price? How many days did you stay? I like your seats , how much were your tickets? How far in advance did you have to get them and where did you buy them ? Do they pressure you to tip for the food and drinks ? What was the weather like ? Did any hats blow on the track ? I'm black , so I was looking in the video for black folks attending which I saw 2 or 3.😊 Glad you had a great time .

    • @JoshPostVlogs
      @JoshPostVlogs  Год назад +5

      Hi there. Thanks for the questions. I’ll try to answer. I made a few small bets and I didn’t win. I usually bet like $5, so not much. Obviously other people bet a lot more. We stayed Thursday to Sunday which is typical. Rooms aren’t too expensive. Around $200 per night and can vary depending on which hotel. The tickets are expensive. Around $1000 per ticket. This can also vary greatly. Less than $100 per ticket for the “infield” but I don’t recommend this because you can’t see the track and food and drink not included. I think you can get general tickets in the grandstands for around $500, a bit higher up and this would include the food and drink. The pricing should be on the derby website. You need to buy the tickets in advance before they sell out. Maybe 6 months out. They don’t really pressure you to give tips but like any bar it’s kind of expected to give a couple dollars per drink or food. The weather was great. Sunny 70. This obviously can change dramatically depending on the year. No, I didn’t see any hats fly onto the track. Regarding being black. I think you should definitely go. You’re right that there is not a lot of diversity, but it’s not like you’ll be treated badly. I saw more diversity in 2023 vs 2022, so it’s improving. I saw plenty of people of color and a everyone is welcome for sure and it would be great to see even more diversity there.
