i think why the crew has been alot of peoples final breaking point is 1) its one of those games that has zero need to be live service only. literal only purpose it serves is removing a couple extra clicks to join people for races or free roam (as showcased by how forza horizon works) and 2) people have found an offline mode in the files that ubisoft encrypted so people feel betrayed cause instead of just dropping the offline mode and turning the servers off theyre just going "get f'd stay f'd peasants. stop playing this gem and go buy our comparatively crap sequals"
Think it should be more about making games that aren't dependent on being online, we can't expect companies to upkeep servers on older games forever, but we can push for them to make games that have online features and multiplayer but still can be completely played offline and without internet connection.
@@WUGH There has been plenty of proof that an offline mode exists. The issue is it is locked behind an inaccessible dev menu, and it was likely made for playtesting before launch. The Crew's imminent shutdown is one of the primary reasons why people aren't that excited for an all-digital future. Companies can literally take away access to anyone's purchased games at a whim (if your account gets nuked off their service, licensing issues like what happened to several films on German and Austrian PlayStation accounts or it's servers shutting down) or even take away the ability to purchase new games (like what Nintendo recently did with the Wii U and 3DS eShops last March and what Microsoft is doing to the Xbox 360 store this June)
People might remember the fb and mobile game, CarTown and CarTown Streets. Funny story about this whole "shut down servers to save money because not enough people play the game to keep the servers up"... About 3 months ago, I found an archive I forgot about of the original Facebook variant CarTown Adobe Flash SWF files. I used a SWF tool to view the game code and find the server URL's. The servers for the assets of CarTown are still up to this day and I downloaded the entire game asset server to archive the game and potentially revive it using Unity3D. This BS from companies of "shut down to cut costs due to lack of players" ... CarTown isn't the first game I've found like this.
