in terms of vibes from what i remember you enjoy: - meng xishi's peerless: wushuang (to be published by sevenseas with a july 30 release; i have a feeling you'd like this the best) - tang jiuqing's ballad of sword and wine: qiang jin jiu (to be published by sevenseas with a june 4 release) - bikabi's married thrice to salted fish (completed online translation; my personal favorite of all time) in case you want to try something more contemporary (which i promise can be just as interesting): - jiang zibei's wait for me after school (completed online translation) - wu zhe's run wild: saye (to be published by sevenseas but it doesn't have a date yet) - mu guahuang's fake slackers (completed online translation) - jiang zibei's i can do it (e-sports but easy to read, i promise! completed online translation) and if you want something closer to little mushroom in terms of feel, there are a ton of great apocalypse/ultimate flow danmei novels that i personally believe are some of the best-written in the danmei sphere, including: - xi zixu's kaleidoscope of death (to be published by rosmei) - musuli's global university entrance examination (to be published by rosmei) - wei feng ji xu's mist [unlimited] (completed online translation) - mo chenhuan's the earth is online (to be published by rosmei) and if you want to check out some baihe (wlw version of danmei), the two biggest works are: - qing jun mo xiao's female general and eldest princess (to be published by monogatari novels with a september 24 release) - qing jun mo xiao's clear and muddy loss of love (to be published by monogatari novels but it doesn't have a date yet) ...so yeah, sorry for recommending a ton of novels that haven't even been officially released yet ^^"
of those already out though, maybe you'd like to check out: - jiang zibei's limerence (published by via lactea; complete) - jing shuibian's salad days (published by via lactea; complete) - and, well yes, grandmaster of demonic cultivation
ahh i just read little mushroom and loved it. i'm also a big tgcf fan. i would say my favorite author is priest. i loved silent reading, faraway wanderers (this one is pretty unhinged) and lord seventh. if you enjoy a lot of 4d plot where every detail is important and a smooth writing style, you should definitely read someone priest's stuff. i would say the "objectively" best danmei i have ever read was probably silent reading. i don't care about crime thrillers as a genre at all but this book holy shit. (i also started drowning sorrows in raging fire and really liked it but now i can't find a translation anywhere) priest focused more on plot than on romance, but she has always such a strong cast of characters so I don't mind 😌
My interpretation on why you'd read that book, even if it makes you sad. it satisfies the curiosity and it's soon to be satisfactionary, since you'll either achieve something like reading the whole book or just reaching the awaited romance. Plus the writing style helps you experience the emotions and events naturally, it's human to have emotions, hurt can be enjoyable too, especially when it's controlled, and just human psychology
I personally like engulfing myself into scenarios that make me cry, or just my fears, the fact that I'm controlling the narrative and the fact that I know it's not real and it's not happening to me directly helps me. It's not a major event that will change my life and I enjoy the release of tears, shock factor, I guess. Just safely living my unhinged thoughts through fanfiction, human nature.
Thank you for the video! In terms of great sci-fi danmei, I would recommend Can ci Pin (Imperfections) by Priest. It is a longer story. but an amazing one.
Little mushroom is such a nice danmei imo since it strays away from the more popular mxtx ones being cultivation ones, it's a breath of fresh air. Definitely a diamond in the rough for me. As for danmei reccomendations since you liked tgcf Then you should definitely read mxtx's other works (mdzs and svsss) and if you enjoy svsss definitely check out meatbun's works especially 2ha (thought this one has darker themes and definitely includes a few trigger warnings).
13:59 Why do I like to read books (or watch movies) that make me cry or upset? Because it's deeply cathartic, and makes me feel like I'm in tune with my emotions. When the characters are faced with ongoing doom and increasing danger, those moments where they can share small comforts with each other are ever more precious. As for recommendations, I like the animated series, Beryl & Sapphire. It's written by an author who's hugely inspired by sci-fi, and is informed by modern life in China, their internet culture, loneliness and connection. It's a show comprised of mostly vignettes that are disconnected from each other, with some longer arcs, each in different settings. Most are comedic, but some are tragic. Some of the arcs are so impactful in what they can 2 short episodes, but some longer arcs have really good build-up and payoff.
I'm literally laughing out loudddd, it's so funny, for whatever reason, how your opinion on the mushroom's love interest changed. + I love your sense of style.
Omg fungi-tastic is amazing 😂😂 and yeees I’m so excited you’re reading little mushroom!! I only read the first volume but I absolutely loved it 😭 the manhua is also so freaking cute 😭 an zhe is my lil cutie patootie 😭🫶🏻
I loved how in your ramble you talked about how much you love story because I'm the same. Like I've written and published stories as I love story so much. Story is amazing and I love being sucked into a silly story or even a heartbreaking story, no matter the medium. Story is contagious and I love it! This story seems like an absolute rollarcoaster so I think I might just have to read it. I love sci-fi, my two favourite franchises are sci-fi, even one of my published books is sci-fi. And making it gay sci-fi? Count me in
Yes, I just love storytelling! That’s awesome that you published your own stories, it must feel satisfying! I also really enjoy sci-fi and want to read more of it! I hope that if you pick up this series you enjoy it! :) Thanks for watching!
That sounds like an interesting read! Not sure it is exactly my cup of tea, but I will keep it in mind in case I want something like this. And how cute is the mushroom puzzle at 1:56😍 Also, not video-related at all, but after hearing you talk about Otomen several times I finally started it and the first volume was so much fun :) I don't recall everything you mentioned, but I feel like the characters being veryy sexist should become less with the following volumes? (at least I hope so) The concept is just so nice and I want to see the characters accepting themselves more
Glad you started Otomen! 💜In that series sexism/stereotypical gender roles, are the main point of conflict. So it's definitely a recurring theme throughout the manga (sometimes it gets very intense lol), but the main characters do develop and accept themselves more and that process is very wholesome and cute! :)
Your videos are always insta watch for me !!! Thanks for another great reading vlog ❤ I would love to read this but I can't find the ebook in my country oh well it would probably be too scary for me anyway I don't handle horror well...😅
Aww, thanks for watching, I appreciate it! ☺️ That's ok! There are lots of other Danmei options out there to get into, I hope you find one that you like! :)
I dont know if it is actually scifi or fantasy but im reading seizing dreams and loving it. The story is people getting into other people dreams and help them out on the subcouncious. The author is gay and the scenes with characters thinking about being lgbt are really good i really like how its written. Warnings would be suicide and attempt to in the beggining, abuse, violence and domestic violence
Since I'm recommending Baihe, the ones currently popular and worthy so: Female general and eldest princess (I appreciate this one) Clear and muddy loss of love (You might want to skip this one since I believe you don't tolerate domestic abuse, it contains toxic relationships with physical abuse at some point!) Please check TW's for what I might omit or forget, keep yourself safe! :)

- bikabi's married thrice to salted fish (completed online translation; my personal favorite of all time)
in case you want to try something more contemporary (which i promise can be just as interesting):
- jiang zibei's wait for me after school (completed online translation)
- wu zhe's run wild: saye (to be published by sevenseas but it doesn't have a date yet)
- mu guahuang's fake slackers (completed online translation)
- jiang zibei's i can do it (e-sports but easy to read, i promise! completed online translation)
