    We get questions frequently about the best way to hook up the speakers that we sell. In this video, DJ Rick shows different ways that a QSC system with HPR181i's and K12's could be hooked up.

    Thanks for the great vid! I just purchased rcf powered speakers with a sub and found this video to be very helpful. I've been djing over 20 yrs & have always used a passive amp / speaker system using rca & 1/4 " cables. So this powered speaker system with xlr jacks is all new to me. I'm looking forward to using my new system on my next gig & best part is that I will have less gear to haul in & a quicker setup & breakdown.

    great video! One more suggestion just to be safe.. QSC recommends plugging into input "B" on the K series tops because input "A" has the mic line adjustement that could cause a really loud high pitched sound to come through the pa if the switch is accidently moved. I use the k sub with 2 kw122 tops.. I love this setup.

    @Maxsdiscos That's a good question. My own feeling is that it doesn't matter. There is nothing in the actual user manual that addresses this, I have made adjustments to the EXT SUB setting while playing music and didn't notice adverse effects.

  • @agiprodj
    @agiprodj  14 лет назад

    @traderpete007 a summed signal is super for the subs (that's an alliteration!). The K-Series are fully capable of reproducing full range. In this example, it is highly unlikely than there are any timing/phasing issues whatsoever. In addition, if you're going to cross at 100Hz it makes the most sense to use the crossover that the manufacturer built and designed into the actual cabinet vs. a crossover somewhere else in the system. Sending only mid/highs to the K12's is a disservice to them. Thx!

  • @agiprodj
    @agiprodj  14 лет назад

    @rynsccr925 In this video we did say that our preference is to go to the subs first. The full range input is identical to the full range output-on any of these speakers. Then up to the K12's where you can choose EXT SUB if you want to. That would also mirror the manufacturer's suggestion.

    I have two ev zlx12p's and a gemini subwoofer (from xtr 500sat which only has speakon outputs, and for inputs it has separate pair of xlr's and 1/4 inch TRS).
    I go from Controller ----> mixer----->TOPS------>SUB.
    But there is almost zero bass coming out of the sub.
    How do I get more bass out of the sub in this set up?
    If i do Controller --------> mixer------->SUB ----->TOPS (speakon to XLR/TRS). . . I know i will get bass but, i'm afraid the power from speakon will blow the powered speakers.
    Pls advise.

    I got a pair of alto truesonic powered speakers and a pair of subs. The way I set it up, R output from mixer goes to L speaker and L output to R speaker. Then I go from the mixout of the speakers to their own subs. I'm not quite sure why, but whenever we set them up, one speakers sounds louder than the other. And Idea on why this is? I would greatly appreciate the help. Great vids by the way, I learned a lot.

  • @isettech
    @isettech 5 лет назад

    Running unity is a way to overpower smaller venues. Set up the sound board with the speakers off first and nominalized the board. Then power the speakers and adjust the speaker gains for the performance level of the venue. The set at unity is why so many places perform way too loud. With your speaker gains set and running the board at nominal levels , you won't get volume creep if you keep the board at unity for the performance. The board runs at unity regardless of the venue size. Speaker power adjusts as the venue changes.

Also, the specs sheet for my M audio bx5a monitors says it is rated at 10k-20k ohms, I thouhgt typical ohm ratings were 2-16 , and so I am confused. Thanks in advance !

    For me - I always run subs center of the summed mono to get the 3db coupling factor per cabinet then send only highs/mids to the tops to maximize the sprectrum of the xlr cable, and let the top amp focus on what it needs to do instead of creating sound that will compete against the sub or cause timing / phasing issues

      Albert Solorio On my QSC K12's That I use as monitors, I have the gain set to 0db/12 oclock. I feel like I have much more control with that setting. I can get very quiet, and I can get very loud. I try to keep the mindset that 0db on a powered speaker is the "What you put in, is what you get out" setting. I hope that helps.

    Hi guys from agi, my name is Rafael and I have a question regarding my powered loudspeakers and powered subwoofers, do I really need a "dsp"digital signal processing to hook up my system or can I just hooked up straight from the mixer. Thanks for ur support

    • @michaelhamilton7533

      Rafael aguilar You don't really NEED a processor A(such as the DBX Driverack, BBE Sonic Maximizer, Basic Crossover, Etc) But I never play an event without my Driverack. Even if I'm just using 2 tops. But Like I said, you don't really need one. The QSC speakers have alot of stuff built in that save you from needing one with lots of features.
