Your talks are some of the best on RUclips! The way you talk and can calm me down is just amazing. You just fill me with strength to continue what I love and do it smart because I've pushed myself to my limit so many times now I feel like I'm in a permanent artistic burnout. But after I've listened to your talks, you've made me pull myself up again.
And now, instead of throwing all my fuel on the fire I'm going to feed it slowly, so I have tons of wood left for a long time.

I actually got tears in my eyes towards the end of this video. I haven't worked in the industry yet, but I'm training to be an artist, and I honestly think you saved me a ton of time and energy in not trying to deal with situations that just aren't compatible with my core being. It sounds obvious now, but I really didn't realize that you don't need to consider jobs that require you to be someone you're not. I always thought one should be able to deal with whatever life threw at you. But like you said in the previous video I think, we are born a certain way and if we go against our nature, it only leads to unhappiness.
So thank you so much Adam! I chanced upon your videos a few days ago and I'll definitely continue to watch from now on :)

It's great to listen to you while drawing, thx for all your effort! :)

Adam, you brought me in to tears. Since the age of 15 I have an idea for a story in my mind. First it was ment to be a novel, but through lucky events the idea turned out to be written and drawn as a comic.
14 years past and today I am still working step by step on it, but with the fear of not finishing, with the fear of failing.
The quote you mentioned "THE ONLY WAY TO FAIL IS BY GIVING UP" woke me up, gave me strength and made me realize that I am on the right path and to not give up for the search of a place I can call home :) So thank you for your calming words, for sharing this story and for being an artist. I love you back and take good care ;)

When I was in college, I was told to do what Disney was doing. I like to design characters, come up with my own stories, doing 2D animation and even doing advertising work. However, when I was pressured to fit with Disney standards, I felt tired and frustrated. Especially when I am working with Adobe, Maya, Nuke and Zbrush, I would try to learn how to use a new tool and it doesn't work the way it should and I would have to consistently ask my teacher for help. 95% of the time they would tell me to go on RUclips to look up a tutorial. I would go on RUclips to see how to properly use the tool, and when I try to practice on my end, it would look OK, terrible or it would not work for me at all. My teachers would not be around or get frustrated with and I would be extremely uncomfortable, in which they would tell me that the animation industry was like this. After I graduated with my bachelors degree, I told myself that I would not work for a studio that I would feel uncomfortable, especially Disney, and I would try to make my own content on the internet. I know it would be alot of work and I might not release my story to the public until later on, but at least I am learning in my own pace and I am more comfortable with working in the art world, while I waited for my chance. I work at retail at the moment, and I am very thankful that I can still pay my bills and still work on my projects at the same time.

I recently came across your channel.
Your story really pulled on my heart strings.
I use to be in the 3D animation industry and I lived close to work at a time as well, only going home to family for weekends.
The constant packing and trips really got to me and after I returned to work from maternity leave they laid me off.
I was happy to go, the tress and toxic environment had just become to much for me over the 10 years I was there.
I now work from home doing 2D illustrations, slowly recovering from the burn out and mental abuse.
You have inspired me greatly over the last few weeks, thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Adam, maybe you will react like 'okay..?' or I don't know.. because you have no idea who I am, some random stranger watching your videos... but through your speech I meet you more deep and deeply, and I feel like... Thank you God that someone is saying this, thank you for being honest, and natural, with no ego, just like a guru, actually you are guru. I see you like that, because your profession is art, yes, and you are an artist, but you are so much more than an artist, you are influencer of my life, my thoughts, my actions. In every word I see myself, and I know all you said, but I need someone to remind me, to support me through saying that those things are normal, it can happen, and that I am not the only one with those feelings and thoughts in mind about the world around us. I feel your love! I respect you a lot, and I know so many people do, just because you are YOU!
Please continue with your videos, we need you!

    really nice to listen to.
Ps. Also had my first clear "no" in a movie production. The question was, if I could take over some jobs after I had finished my part, for another 3 weeks or so.
I decided I did not want to add those 3 weeks and the manager was absolutely ok with it. If they ask, dare to be honest and say "No, i can't, I need the break, before the next assignment starts". Doesn't mean that with a "No", you automatically ruin a career. It gives you strenght and credibility.

Just today I discovered your videos. I'm 33 and I'm around 8 years on my art journey, started a bit late, I know.
I'm troubled by so many things, success at social networks, skill level, finances, pleasing others, personal goals, etc. I know many struggle with this. For a long while I'm gathering the courage to just drop all the bad voices in my head and grab the one that truly speaks to me. And you helped. Thank you.

i come back to your videos quite often. I dont remember which video but you mentioned your beginning when you were struggling to make ends mean by travelling through the snow to submit your portfolio was truly something that keeps me motivated. As someone that struggling to go against the grain from my degree to pursue in the creative industry, not to mention making each decision and step forward all alone. Sometimes opportunities presented themselves and sometimes i feel like im doing a suicide mission by just hitting myself in the face at this where it eventually may not be fruitful. Especially when i have to pursue the road alone, sometimes i will forget my goal or feel like its eating away at my soul when i cant see the certainty of my goal. Then, ill remember your story and many other inspiring artist that had to persevere different conditions and all i can say is your strengths and experience helped me pulled through like a wakening slap in the face to keep on going. My story is not special and im pretty sure youre inspiring and motivating many others in your own way. so truly Thank you.

Living it. Still. Husband was a soldier when the kids were young. Both boys are in the army/navy now! Daughter's friend is in the army too. I'm not. I've been working and designing. Now our grandkids need to deal with their father being away in the week. It is an alien thing for society, men away from home. Army, navy, sailors, truckers. Hard work too, long days. I try to be an artist, so I can use the time I'm home alone (after work). Daughter is totally into horses so that sounded familiar.
Energy is so important. Glad that that helped you and with you; helping us.
I've been giving classes since 2011, I liked it. A bit burned out now. No energy...

Just stumbled across your channel and due to lockdown and the difficulties of daily life and a mid life crisis I somehow feel a calling to dive into art again, I used to draw lots when I was you but was a time where information wasn't so easily available like nowadays, as a kid I didn't possess the analytical skills to become better at drawing altho I had potential, due to my drawings being mocked I stopped and the discouragement stayed with me most of my life, but somehow seeing the humanity of you as an individual I feel a somewhat calling or urge to learn and give it a go, but I'm 36 years old and absolutely terrified and wonder "is it to late? ", thank you for your content and regardless of what I decide or if I get the courage to try it out, you earned a sub and I'll always watch your content, thank you very much. Wish you all the best.

What an inspirational story. Thank you for bearing your soul to your viewers. This is a life lesson shared from a place of empathy and hope. I could identify with your struggle. Though I myself am in my mid 50's and still struggling to find my bliss hearing your story really touched a chord in me. It is very difficult for those who are empathetic and caring to work in today's business world. I can also attest to the fact those who are good people don't always succeed in corporations that look at their employees simply as numbers, and cogs in a machine that strives forever forward. It is disheartening, as well as disconcerting that the fruit of one's labor is seen more from a monetary value stand point and not the artistic or inspirational worth. Like you in my professional career I had always been the worker bosses could rely on to rise above and beyond and not ask for anything in return. My fellow co workers had always respected me and admired the way I comported myself as a professional. I always let my work speak for itself not expecting any praise or advancement from it. Unfortunately, people who have this kind of mindset and honor are mostly taken advantage of. Especially in today's corporate work environment. If I could go back in time I would not change who I am as a professional but perhaps the choices I made. I truly hope that younger viewers of this video clip you have shared will take these words of wisdom and advice to heart. If you have a passion for something pursuit it. If it is a deep love of art believe in it, or even if it is something else all together. Hold true to these defining qualities of yourself and let them guide the direction of the road you choose in life. Commit to your art and passion and connect with others in this world who are like minded. Find your community and home in the world. Take failure as an opportunity that only strengthens your resolve and faith in you. We truly are judged and remembered by the things we leave behind...leave a field of inspiration and you will find you have changed the world in a small way.

Amazing video . I am a Visually impaired artist I still don’t know who I truly am because of my disability my future in art is not clear I love drawing and painting so much and I can’t imagine that one day I will stop making art I already lost most of my vision do to an eye condition called Retitinis Pigmentosa now I only see some shadows and light , despite all that I still draw because a couldn’t stop . I am sorry if I have any mistakes in the writing I use a screen reader for the blind in my iPhone .thank you .

Yay! Fellow disabled artist for the win! May we work with our bodies to the best of our ability! I'm curious, how do you do it? Do you rely on muscle memory?
If for whatever reason you find yourself unable to draw in the future, you might want to try embroidery. Depending on the kind that you do, you will be able to feel out your progress pretty well. I bet if you just lie on your threads up Roy G Biv style you'll be good to go! Also, did you know that Claude Monet oh, at least I think it was Claude Monet, went blind and had to alter his artwork to suit? There are a ton of blind artists who have done this. However you ultimately end up oh, you will always be an artist and there will always be a way to express yourself. Keep going! I believe in you.

This was a very lovely story. It makes me feel just a bit more connected to you, both in how deep and personal the story was, and that it was about horses which my dad loves. I myself have never really loved horses the same way, but I did not grow up on a farm like my dad did. I do appreciate a good rodeo though, horses are one of the few animals that are equally powerful and gentle. Following the path you feel is right is certainly the key to removing all of the stress, that otherwise holds you back. And your story illustrated this beautifully, the music choice also helped! Overall another fantastic video, I certainly look forward to the next, so thank you for opening up and sharing this personal story!

wow... you are really great at what you do, thank you for sharing this story. Apart from being a great artist- you have an amazing gift of storytelling. It's crazy that I only found you out today by searching "being slow in learning" and I have literary spent an entire evening listening to your talks. You are filling a very important void here and I just want to say a huge thank you for sharing your experience, compassion and wisdom.

I found your channel last night, with a video of you talking about the best ipad pro apps for drawing. Started watching your other videos and you sir, have a perfect voice and a very lovely personality. Your voice is so soothing it actually is what made me want to start on another drawing. I've been feeling a little bit hiatus on starting new drawings (but i did keep on sketching) but you solved that by simply being you. Other than your voice being wonderful, what you talk about is so important and has so much information, thank you for sharing that with us. Keep up the great work man!

This video was very inspiring and encourages me to keep going. My entire life has been nothing but bad luck and a bumpy road, and in all honesty I sometimes wonder if it'll ever work itself out. You kinda start getting the feeling you don't belong in this world, you know? But there was something I heard once before, something about everyone's own time, how every life has their own time, and things will happen in that person's time. Sometimes it happens to people in their 20s, sometimes it happens to people in their 50s, but everyone's time is different. Your video kinda reminded me of that and it's great to hear these kinds of stories from you. Thank you for opening yourself up and for sharing to all of us.

This was what I really needed to hear... It solidified the thoughts I've had about not going against my nature when in the process of creating a life for myself. After all the struggle, I've finally realized that I want to, and should... be as I am. As I truly am. There were many valuable lessons in this video. Yours is a wonderful and inspiring story. I won't forget it. Thank you.

Damn. I've been suffering from anxiety and depression for a long time now. I can never calm down and just sit still because of how nervous I am all the time. Just listening to your videos and to your experiences and such is just extremely calming and soothing. I haven't felt this relaxed in quite some time.
    Thank you!! you're awesome :D

I can't even find the words to express how this video made me feel. Enlightened, maybe? I don't even know if that is the right word. But, the message you gave is one I needed to hear. You have to be true to yourself. Forcing yourself to fit into a role that doesn't vibe with your essence is unhealthy. This is in all aspects of life. Unfortunately, I have not done this in some time when it comes to work. This will change. And this is the most relaxed I have felt in a very long time. Watching you work and listening to you talk pushed all the stress I've been feeling right out of my mind. Thank you.

This was very inspiring! Especially for someone who feels stuck in their art and doesn't know how to move forward with it because I have often felt the same way in many situations and always thought it was because I was weak or afraid but it was my intuition most of the time telling me this is not for me.

I listened to a lot of podcasts and talks about how artists approach their work ethics and how they found their voice.
This talk of yours was special. I don't quite know yet but something has clicked, shifted in my view at myself and my work. It's subtle but I'm looking forward to what will come out of it, once it's integrated. Thank you so very much for your work and I'm so glad you found your place!
I wish you all the best!
