Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been required as bands from Hurricane Laura pelt the Lake Charles area. Some powerlines were downed as winds pushed across the Calcasieu River on River Road!
my sister and her family are stuck in lake charles, LA, and Hurricane Laura is on the verge of being a cat 5. I'm terrified for her. We have to pray hard please!

frank sigwart im sorry frank but those roofs wont mean anything when sea lvls rise 9+ ft and 145+mph winds impact those structures. It doesn’t matter what type of building your in.

News I read said to expect the 30' storm surge as far inland as 20-25 likes!!! Areas that never flood will be inundated. I bet all kind of people will be lost in this one. They just wouldn't take heed.

Y’all should be scared. Not only is it steep and high it’s old and in bad shape. It is currently rated a 6 out of 100 on bridge safety rating!! There’s is a whole effort to have it replaced. The environmental study will be done at the end of this year and trump has promised he will provide the funding IF he is re-elected.

People need to flee while they can, staying with a predicted storm surge of up to 15 feet that'll go 30 miles inland at some point and hurricane winds over 130 is crazy. Cat 4 storm = flee

That bridge is scarier in person! It’s so steep. I’ve driven over it many times when traveling from AL to TX and I’m nervous and drive like a grandma every time. Last time I went around the town to avoid that bridge, there is another in Baton Rouge that isn’t as bad but I don’t like bridges.

I’m states over and a feeder band came in during lunch time . Was blinding , flooded the streets, and I got soaked so I had to go home to change clothes. Prayers to those who’s in Laura’s path.

Yeah I'm lucky to live in Michigan, the only extreme weather is the snow and freezing temperatures. I'll take that over wildfires, tornado outbreaks, hurricanes, and earthquakes anyday.

My husbands family lives in Westlake, Sulphur, Lake Charles, Moss Bluff, and Ragley. All their homes are damaged, some with trees fallen on them. It's very devastating. Keep them in prayer. Things can be replaced, people cannot. Giving praises to the Lord that they are all alive & well. Will be difficult in the months to come, COVID has impacted lumber mills, and other manufacturers, there will be a shortage of lumber and metal for siding and roofing . And other building supplies.

I have driven down I-10 in the remnants of a tropical storm, and that was scary. Rain pounding so hard on the car you couldn't hear anything else.

This is only the tip of the storm. Those houses will be gone after Laura demolishes them. Ppl need to leave now. It's gonna be a cat 4 - 5. Storm surge 30' or more. There will be loss of life.

Why on earth are people out driving around in a hurricane? I live in Hurricane country and have been through many of them and never would I do such a thing. No job, or shopping need or anything else would get me to drive in a hurricane. It's crazy!
