    SUMMARY:
    - To protect your keys from these “relay” attacks, use something metallic since metal blocks signals.
    - The windshield, windows, and mirrors can be marked with a vehicle’s identification number (or VIN). This service doesn’t cost much, and it reduces the risk of theft significantly.
    - When prospective criminals see your car is well cared for, they’ll assume you must have a good alarm system and ways to find your vehicle.
    - A baby monitor makes a great anti-theft device because you’ll be able to hear everything that’s happening in your car.
    - If you know you’ll have to leave your car in an unfamiliar place, hide an old switched-on phone or tablet in it. Just remember to synchronize it with your Google account in advance.
    - A quick-release hub will let you take the steering wheel with you when you leave the vehicle, and thieves won’t be able to get far without it!
    - If you don’t feel like spending a bunch of money on car security, try a quick tug on a spark plug. A car won’t start without a spark on the cylinder.
    - If you bump into someone’s car or someone slightly bumps into yours, you should take the rights steps: roll up the windows, lock the doors, and call the police.
    - Park in areas that are well-lit and preferably have security cameras, such as building entrances and parking lots.
    - If you make use of an obvious anti-theft item, like a steering wheel lock, you should still install a GPS-tracker in an unusual place.
    - According to crime statistics, cars are most often stolen from public parking lots, gas stations, or near ATMs.
    - If you get a call from a company that has supposedly installed the alarm system, locks, or something else in your car, never answer the questions about safety.
    - If you’re having trouble locking the car with the fob, there’s a chance that someone is trying to intercept the signal, especially if you’re in a public area.

Was arriving to a hotel late at 11 PM. Outside parking was full & all that was left was multi-level garage parking. I pulled into a spot & got a real bad feeling. I had an overwhelming thought that said - do not get out of your car, keep your doors locked, do not turn off the engine, look around, it is not safe. The feeling kept getting worse -so I dropped the car in gear & pulled out - that's when I saw a man slid down in the front seat of a car the next parking spot up from me with his car off & in the dark. My guardian angel saved me that night. Alway, Always listen to gut feelings or thoughts that pop into your head from nowhere!

I’d like to see a car security system (with video surveillance) that once the thief is in the car the ignition is disabled, the doors lock and the thief can’t get out. The thief then hears over the speakers “This car will self-destruct in 15 seconds!”

About 4 or 5 years ago, there were a bunch of thieves in my neighborhood that would go and steal money from peoples cars by using other devices that could interfere with the car to unlock the door of the car so my parents tried putting their car keys in a metal box and it worked!

The trick where they call about the alarm system is used for houses too. Back before we had an alarm I got a call from someone saying they were from the alarm company and wanted to know if we were interested in upgrading our home protection system. The natural thing to do is to call the lying telemarketer out and tell them that you don't even have an alarm system. I was too smart for that. I told them that we already had the top of the line system so we were not interested. Probably saved us from a break in and it woke us up regarding protecting our home.

I've had 2 cars stolen from me. 1st one was a 1974 Porsche 914 that was stolen in 1980. Cops didn't find it, but my husband & I did by asking the right questions of some near by businesses. Although it was vandalized I got it back. We weren't able to prosecute anyone for the crime, but hey, I GOT IT BACK! 2nd one was an old Maverick that was customized (yes an old Maverick, lol). Unfortunately it was never recovered. I was very young & wish I'd known these deterrents then. Thanx for the informative video.

Hi, I'm an automotive locksmith. I make car keys for almost any cars regardless if you have it or not. I've done luxury cars like Porsches, Bentley, and BMW's before and mid ranged cars like GM, Dodge, Toyota/Lexus. Some cars are extremely quick and easy however to make a key for. 2018 Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep push-to-starts takes literally a minute to program a key for. A 2014 Maserati takes about 1 minutes to program a key for as well. However, one of the best ways to deter a car thief is simply an alarm. No matter if you're fast, you won't take a chance at a noisy car alarm for any seconds of attention from strangers. If your car is an older year then simply purchase an aftermarket alarm kit which will work as well.

Of course. What do you think of the device the remotely kills your battery. I'm thinking of one of those. I have a precious '96 GMC, a popular easy one to steel. I've had it done once before, but they failed to steal it, but did lots of damage. Cheers.

    @frankwess7235 5 лет назад +3

The Club for the steering wheel is not very effective. They can actually be removed from the steering wheel quite easy. The Club has a brake model that I believe would work much better because you can't remove it from the brake. This is effective because you can't put an automatic car in gear if you can't push the brake.

Also, if you get a flat tire don’t stop in a dark place at night. Keep going even if it ruins your rim until you reach a lit place with people. During the day if someone stops to help you keep an eye on your things and memorize their license plate.

Also, if you are on a major highway, you don't want to get out near that traffic, drive on the rim, it's safer. So many people killed when getting out of their car, or a stopped car is plowed into.

It's so sad that we live in times that we are scared to get or give help! It's esp worse with those transporting children and the elderly.
When I lived in a suburb of Dallas, I would see adults leave the car running to go into a convenient store - no second thought like they did it all the time. The windows were down, so it wasnt a matter of using a keyfob or extra key to get back into a locked car.
A couple times during 3 yrs before moving back home to a safer environment, even though I was in a hurry and had to unload & reload my own 2 children and and my infant/toddler, I would SIT THERE AND WAIT for the adult to come back out to their children (or possibly someone else's children?). As hard as it was, I held my tongue. You never know what will set people off, esp when it comes to parenting issues.

Going home with the wife driving, an old van followed us for almost 20 miles. We got off at the exit and turned left. Ahead was a one lane covered bridge. Just before we got to the bridge, the van that was following us passed us and started to go onto the covered bridge ahead of us. Just before reaching the other side, the van Stopped. We were half way across the bridge and for four or five seconds we were wondering what the two guys in the front seats were doing. Just then, both men opened their doors st the same time and started walking back towards us with each man keeping one hand behind them. I opened my door on the passenger side, drew my sidearm and leveled it at the would be bad guys and yelled, “GET BACK IN YOUR CAR A**HOLES!!” They stopped dead in their tracks, looked at each other and backed up to where they came out of their van, closed their doors and sped away. Crisis averted 🤨🇺🇸

So long as the switch location is easily accessible to you, the driver, you should have no problem with using it on a moment's notice.

The Club may not be as useless as people have been led to believe. It was found out that you can easily saw your way through the steering wheel and take it off, but like some of the tips here, you have to think like a thief. Most thieves are looking for a quick job. If they do see a Club on the steering wheel, most won't have a hacksaw just laying around. Hacking through the steering wheel takes extra time that they don't want to spend, unless the target is a Ferrari or something really high end (then again, why would you have a club if you can afford cars like that, right?). Granted, none of this is a "perfect situation", but if you were stealing a car, would you want to take the extra time to cut a steering wheel when it might get you caught?

    • @mst5543
      @mst5543 2 года назад

Exactly!! Back in the day when the Club was popular, I knew a person in a theft ring crew. He said it only took him 8 seconds to saw through one. Eventually he got caught but the stories he told me were hilarious.

A fuel shut off switch hidden in the car, It will run for about a half mile before stopping. In a city this is so inconvenient to the thief that he will abandon the car, as trying to figure out the problem in traffic will cause too much attention.

ATTENTION to the producer of this video: you should add that installing a (hidden) switch in an unsuspected area of the car i.e. "console" or under the dash that is connected to the main relay it'll stop thieves from being able to start your car or bike even if they stole the key or bypass wired the ignition

During the night, thieves came, pushed it out of the area and then loaded onto a flat bed. Owner believes that the mechanic is involved. He may have disabled the parking brake during the service and let the thieves know where the car is parked at.

Wrapping your key fob in foil does nothing to prevent the codes from being received. In order to capture the data, the key fob has to be IN USE, as in when you go to unlock your car. A key sat on your kitchen table is totally passive and ONLY transmits it's codes when then button is pushed.

Another Bright Side dim-bulb piece? Key Fobs: 1- only partly true on older cars (early 90s) 2- Thief can only grab your signal if you're using it. Shielding it when you're not using it does nothing. The only thing that makes sense is to never use the keyless function, use the actual key in the lock. So as long as you get the foil out, wrap your head in it as well.

You know what's absurd? That we live in a world where not only do we have to go thru all kinds of hassles to secure our cars, our passwords, our online presence and our identities, but we are now conditioned to accept it as normal life.
When I was growing up in my hometown. People didn't lock their doors, they left their keys in the car everywhere and never worried about leaving bicycles, or other items outside at night. Don't tell me the world hasn't gotten worse. When I was 12, my friends and I used to go out and not come home fore 2 or 3 days in the summer. We were around the neighborhood and had our sleeping bags with us. We were seen by plenty of parents and also spent a lot of time in the woods. Our parents never have to be concerned with us going missing, or being killed by our own friends. We didn't have cell phones, but then again, we didn't need them. Things were slower, more laid back. Oh, we had rare occasions of stealing, but so rarely did it happen, it wasn't of much concern. I'd gladly give up all the innovation to go back to that time. I can tell you, there was far less stress, far fewer people going in for "therapy". People had integrity and when they shook your hand, you didn't need a contract, or their signature. i miss those days.

Was pumping gas whe I saw someone in the reflection of my window kept walking back and forth about 50 feet away and I watched him and as he came closer I pushed my jacket open to reveal that I was carrying he turned away and took off. I really believed that I was about to be mugged again and was ready to pop a round into his head! I do not let anyone approach me tell them they can talk to me from 30 feet away at ATM's I tell people to back off. I am not afraid anymore because I have trained with law enforcement and train to stop bad guys with lethal force. But Yeah be aware of everything.

I'm sorry that happened to you! $1 he didn't get (for no cash on hand) certainly didn't deserve you all that money & time he put on you! That's a lot of bad karma for a transient to bring onto himself, esp if he makes a practice of it; which he more than likely does.
I've went thru a drive-thru to get a cheap hamburger for a transient & a plain hamburger for the transients dog - which I fed to the dog in 4 bites to make sure he got to eat, and also gave them 2 cups of water.
At a Wal-Mart entrance I saw a man & his dog, so I got a small bag of dogfood, a metal feeding bowl, collapsable water bowl, a plastic water cup, and 2 G of water. I always pray their needs are met and that if the dog is a ploy to get handouts, something will happen to give the dog a loving home.

If a thief can't start your car, they can't steal it. Install a fuel or electrical system cutoff switch in a hidden spot, such as in a random spot in your trunk. These switches are cheap and quick to have installed, and many mechanics know how to do this. When your car will not start, or it dies immediately and won't restart, thieves will take off and find one that runs.

I was set up by the man I had been involved with for over a year. I had been to his house several times and always parked in the same spot because it was the most convenient based on the direction I was facing (his house was on the corner, so when I turned left onto his street I would park across the street which made my car 100% visible from his house). The LAST time I was there, he told me to park my car in a different spot, which seemed safer because it was under a street light closest to his driveway, but In hindsight, I realize it served two purposes, I didn’t have direct visibility of my car because of the bushes and my car was parked facing the quickest getaway route. So, be suspicious if someone tells you to change where you park. He distracted me while his thieving accomplices stole my car.

I was at a gas station buying gas, when I finished I got in buckled up and looked to my left to the other side of the Island (pumps on the other side of me) & both vehicles were facing the same direction & man just pulled up and got out, HE was walking BEHIND my TRUCK and slapped the tail gate 2 times while I was pulling away, & I stopped and ask him ? Whats the problem ? he said I almost hit him. He was walking BEHIND, so I could not have hit him. I continued to drive off when he chased me yelling and banged on my side panel. I drove out of the station. (BOTH VEHICLES WERE IN THE SAME DIRECTION FACING, EAST SIDE BY SIDE WITH THE ISLAND IN-BETWEEN).
THEN: I realized that was a scam, he could probably call police and say I hit and ran. I turned around and went back and called the police. Then he called the police. I waited inside the gas station until the police came. Nothing came of the event, but a word of caution I am an older female, and was by myself that day. In a nice Toyota Tacoma duel cab It was very obvious he was looking for a law suit, HIT AND RUN. If I had gone on down the road I possibly could have later had a law suit for hit and run. It was a set up ! TOTALLY!!!!!

Have a keyed battery disconnect switch & relay setup installed that interrupts the starter. Have key switch located out of sight. Or you can have a series of switches of normally open and normally closed set up in a bank. Only a certain combination of switch positions will allow the car to start. The more switches the more combinations. That's if you want to have a car with a ton of switches installed to look like a 747. Most cars have spare switch locations with no switches. Have a switch installed with a nondescript or little used function. Don't interrupt the main power on modern cars with a master battery disconnect, as the computers will have to relearn every time you turn it off. Just a few ideas.

It would be easy, and fast to get to, and you wouldn't need to rewrap it every time you come home.

#14. If you are able, turn the Club so the lock cylinder faces in. #15. Put a sign in the window that says: "Police, waiting for tow truck." #16. Install a fuel cutoff switch that's not easy to locate.

Unless ur steering wheel is metal, the club is completely useless. It takes mere seconds to cut thru a steering wheel that isn't metal, or doesn't have some kind of metal inside of it. Once it's cut, the club slips right off

@@saucecastillo460Yes, that's true. But unless the theif is a pro, they may not know about the wheel's construction. And sometimes the mere sight of the club lock facing in might just save you.

@@VIDEOHEREBOB that could work, but at this point, most thieves prolly know how to get around it. But if the steering wheel is metal, ur good money

The club is useless. Just cut through the steering wheel with a hack saw. Takes about 20 secs. The club that locks onto the brake pedal is a little better, makes it so you cannot press the brake pedal. Most automatic transmission vehicles won't let you shift from park without pressing the brake.

It might not be as useless as you think. Yeah, anyone can hack through the steering wheel, but most thieves aren't carrying around a hacksaw "just in case" there's a Club on the wheel (if they do get caught, that's more evidence against them), but you are still correct, the Club is like a padlock on your door, it doesn't keep thieves out, it keeps honest people honest.

@@cujoedaman I carried a hacksaw just for the club. Cars with the club were specifically targeted by car thieves in the late 1990's for the express reason of proving how useless it was. Dateline did an entire special about its ineffectiveness. The club will make the "new guys" look for a different target. The dudes that have been in the game awhile smile knowingly at the club.
