This was Jeter's last at bat in Yankee Stadium, where he drove in the winning run. -Wilmer Flores was a fan favorite on the Mets who had spent the last 10 or so years of his life in the Mets system, ever since he was a teenager. Rumors floated around that he might be traded, and he learned during the game, in this age of social media, along with everyone else int he stands, who cheered for the player they loved. He turned out to not be traded that year, but some time later. -Ramon Ortiz blew out his arm early in a game, and was crying because he feared it may end his long career. -Mariano Rivera is the greatest closing pitcher of all time, no doubt. In his last game ever, he was taken out by Derek Jeter and Andy Pettitte, two of his closest teammates who had played with him since 1995 (this game was in 2013.) -Armando Galarraga was one out away from a perfect game, and the 27th out should have been called, as the runner was out by a full step, but first base umpire Jim Joyce called him safe. After the game, he saw he got the call wrong and became incredibly emotional, since he had robbed a kid of history. This was at the game the next day where Galarraga presented Joyce with the lineup card, Joyce with tears in his eyes. -Tony Womack's father had died three weeks earlier. Tony Womack almost never hit home runs. But on his first father's day without his dad, he hit the father of all home runs - a grand slam. -David Ortiz is crying at a pregame tribute to the aforementioned Jose Fernandez. -Joe Mauer was an excellent catcher for the Minnesota Twins who later moved to first base. It always hit close to home when a player from your favorite team dies unexpectedly. As a Yankee fan, the death of Thurman Munson was huge to me. Even bigger than that, and one that rocked all baseball fans, was the death of Roberto Clemente. Most of us have seen video of Lou Gehrig's farewell speech but weren't there to have appreciated his greatness and how much of a loss his retirement was considering the circumstances.

I live in the Kansas City area and still remember my friend telling me about Yordano Ventura’s death. Dude was a key part of our World Series runs (including the year we won it all); it was a horribly sad day for KC sports fans.
If you could find video of Geoff Jenkins last game as a Brewer it was a tear jerker for the fans. He was given a standing ovation every at bat. The coach pulled him early to give the fans a last chance to show their appreciation for a class player that was one of the only highlights in years of bad teams. Not a dry eye in the house. The guy was so humble the players had to push him out of the dugout for a curtain call.
The one that got to me most, irked me when , and after it happened was Andras Galaraga getting cheated out of a no questioned NO HITTER. Major League Baseball sucks to this day for not stepping up to the plate by over ruling and reversing the call Jim Joyce made, and awarding this man with the no hitter HE RIGHTFULLY DESERVES. I hope someday some commissioner has the backbone to do the honest and right thing and reward this pitcher with what is rightfully his.
