Any album pre 'Great Cold Distance' you will find exactly what you described in regard to the sound and strength of Jonas voice. The version of 'Tonight's Music" from the live "Last Fair Day Gone Night" was my originally preferred version of this song, The version on "Sanctitude" might be my favorite today. This was the first Katatonia song I learned on guitar.
I came back to this video today, just to listen to this song again, founding it again but understanding it more. Just wanted to say, i really like looking at your facial expressions while the music plays, there is something really subtle but hard hitting about it. Thank you for doing these reactions.
Looking forward to any and all Katatonia. They have an endlessly enjoyable catalog, ranging from very good to superlative. Your delayed gratification when it comes to saving songs for reactions is greatly appreciated
Their singer did a masterpiece of a colab with a talented instrumentall band called Long Distance Calling. In their track The Nearing Grave , Jonas Renske soring vocals from Katatonia do magic. Pls get yo react yo this its best of both worlds.
I prefer the live versions of many of their early singing-period songs. In the White is a prime example. I am totally with you on that feeling of finding such an amazing band.
great reaction and i agree with the lack of confidence in the studio version... he started doing cleans for 4 years when they recorded it... id recommend Passer from their 2016 record
I'd like to watch (and listen) all Katatonia songs reactions by you. Maybe you can publish reaction videos one by one, you've made for City Burials songs. I'm really looking forward to hear your thoughts and feelings. Love you..
Anyone out there enjoy genesis combined with Rush. Check out IQ, they have just shared live show from just before lockdown. A show of resistance. Prog masters of almost 40yrs at work.
Thanks. I've mentioned a few times before, that I was doing the song, and then realized that I knew the song, and had listened to it previously. Thats the reason. Great song, but wanted to do stuff I had never listened to before.
To start with the less fun thing, I don't really trust the governments so I'm not so good in terms of future with the destruction of economy and the stripping away of our rights etc. I wish I wasn't alive to see these crazy times, but then again, I wouldn't be alive to experience Katatoina...lol Jonas was fumbling a lot, along with the rest of the band when they transitioned from growling vocals. It's part of the reason they called an album Dead End KIngs, they've experienced so many dead ends with Katatonia where they had no idea where to go from there. In my opinion they don't really fall into their "real" new self until Viva Emptiness. Jonas also became a better singer after playing a lot of live shows, they really improved also live. If you watch Live Consternation it's really different from now. I also really noticed the new(..?) guitarist's vocals and playing, wow! I can't follow their lineup changes so I don't know how long he's been on board...lol...that's poor when it's my favorite band! And you are so lucky to find them, I know that feeling of discovering a new great band. It happened to me the last time with Porcupine Tree. Do you know them? If not, please react to Anesthetize from them, live from Tilburg, I don't believe you will regret it. And I found Katatonia with Viva Emptiness and every album has been awesome since then, so that's rare. I'm your age btw :) Oh, just heard in another video that you are a big Steven Wilson fan, I knew it, lol
Yes, this is your first encounter of the matter "Jonas' voice improvement" through the years.. First albums: drummer. Next albums: "katatonic" voice (great voice for that kind of music and mood, perfect one, but technically not great and even not so "confident"). Last albums: one of the best voices in music scene, in my opinion. That's a point that makes me "taste" his voice today even better :) I like this song, but think that is not the best song of that great album. Just one thing... is it me the only one who "feels" Jonas voice here like in a "Robert Smith mood", above all in the chorus? XD

You are correct about Jonas. One of the fun things about tracking Katatonia albums is Jonas vast improvement from one to the next.
I love this album, and the whole concert is fantastic.... great music to unwind with.
Best katatonia Album

You should react to Obsidian Tide - Pillars of Creation
Hopefully some fool stumbles across your channel and also gets to build such an awesome playlist.
I started reading it and took it wrong at first. I read it like, only a fool would like it. Which may be true anyway😉
