for oil pastels, i put a bit of baby oil on a cotton bud then lightly rub over the oil pastels in little circles. works the best for blending colours together but you need really thick paper for it
I enjoy oil pastels! In my experience, the type of paper really matters and you can usually get good results with budget pastels. paper has to have some texture/ grit to it otherwise they will not blend at all and stay streaky. Brown paper bags work nicely. I'd love to see a video with you trying them out!
I feel so nostalgic watching you open that children’s art set! My grandma used to get me these kits when I was younger and was my gateway to art. But man, I was screaming with those first layers of markers! 😅 those markers just rip up the paper, gunk up and bleed. And those watercolors 💀
It’s nice to have you back! I’ve been using your sketch transfer technique for a while now, I almost forgot I learned it from you. It’s so helpful. It takes away the fear of messing up the sketch in the coloring stage. I can go for it, knowing that I can always just try again with a “copy” of the original sketch. Yes, I’d love to see you try oil pastels.
My A-level art teacher shoehorned me into doing massive sized oil pastel pieces for my final exams in Fine Art. I feel you on having a vendetta against them because my fingers had indents in them by the time I was through. If it's any consolation, I think applying the fluid at least got rid of the negative spaces left behind by the paper's texture, just not with the same consistency. I have no doubt that with better grade oil pastels, it would have been a more smooth finish. That aside, I think you were very resourceful with these materials, even if the quality wasn't stellar. I feel like the sharp and rigid bristles on the original paintbrush was intended to scratch up the paint pallettes since they have a chalky consistency from my recollection. I also remember my own set's reaction to water was inconsistent - some were really pigmented while others were very faint. The markers were definitely the saving grace of this kit! When I was a kid, I used them until they were gasping for moisture. And they seemed to have applied really well for the central part of the illustration here! Good work as always, Temi!
Girl that looks great! I must admit I was quite surprised with how well some of the supplies worked. Those watercolours and that brush though- 😂 It be looking like my crappy mascara and eyeshadow palate 😭 You should definitely try this challenge again in the future! Keep it going Temi 💙
I think those markers are water-based rather than alcohol-based, which is why they’re streaky and don’t blend well. These markers that are made for kids are generally water-based
I’d love to see a full oil pastel video, they’re my favorite medium!! From my experience it really comes down to the paper you have, even crayola oil pastels work very well on the right type of paper.
@@TemiDansoArt They work wonderfully on canvas panels, so i would suggest canvas like paper, or canvas panels themselves. But if yoy use paper, it needs a little bit of tooth to grab on too so sanding helps before using them, unless the paper already works well. I can’t recommend any specific products because I’ve had oil pastel paper perform worse than non oil pastel paper before😂
You're so good at doing ART and your videos are awesome and great pictures and I really appreciate your videos and I think you make other kids like get creative and your positive reasons are that you can do hard things you can do things it's okay if you mess up too
Yeah bc some kits required you to add water to the pens since the bottoms were removable for that reason. Other kits had the water already added in so they worked well.

It turned out amazing!! I have had these kits laying around in the store room for years... This motivates me to challenge myself- Also if I were to do the background I would dip one of the blue markers in water and make watercolor to paint it. Even cheap sketch pens make really good watercolors

Hello Temi, I would love to see you try making art with oil pastels in the future. Maybe you can test different brands and see which works for you. Honestly, the first ever art supply i ever got was an oil pastel. I loved them so much since they were vibrant and creamy, but it depends on the brand. I would 100 percent recommend Joy Oil pastels they're cheap but good quality. In my country, oil pastels are cheap, so it's the only art supply I can actually afford to make art with. Sorry for the rant. I feel like finding just a hand to reference and using that image to get a feel for how to do the chrome effect would help a bit there.
I’m a kid, all I use is pencils, blending pencils, kneaded erasers, and regular erasers. I don’t like all these other art supplies most kids have or are meant for kids-
Making the gradient is the best thing to do tbh they should do this with Faber Castell yknow the jumbled colors allow you to make the gradient and oil pastels are better than crayons!

Hi, I have just found your Chanel. When using this set you have to remember that these sets are bought for young children to use, to practice colouring etc. they are not designed for fine art at ages 4-9. As children grow in their skills and want to pursue art then better materials will be bought. I have watched a few of your ‘shorts’ and loved what you made. I subscribed after watching this video 😁🐝🌻
I really like it!I am not kidding this is really impressive!❤️💕I cannot even do this great!when the final result was shown for me this was like the exact type that you showed on your device Keep up your great art work👍🏻
I remember when i was 7 I asked my dad to get me a art supplies then he returns gifted me a art supply set it has like a coloring/puzzle book, 10 huge crayons and 5 markers it was fun and it was frozen theme 😭 not really what i expected but still thank full tho
Here is a tip for beginner artists.... As we all know that to be a good artist u dont always have good quality products to start with and crayons and oil pastels can be very tricky to work with as cheap quality ones are always rough and streaky........To prevent your crayon art from looking rough u can use a metal scale and use its top side to scrape of the weird chunks of crayons on your drawing SERIOUSLY IT WORKS!!
To make the oil pastels blend try putting a darker shade of the colour u r colouring.. Like for example u r doing blue put another sahde of blue darker then that, another is grab a tissue and blend, if that does not work then do it with a q-tip.. These r the ways I blend.. Personally my favourite one is mixing another colour (darker then the colpur you r doing or another colour you think will look good).
u r one of those people who make watching art and drawing videos rlly fun and interesting and not just like u r watching a robot draw a stick man. I love ur work
This truly brought me back to my childhood ✨ in a great way haha. I don’t think I everrrr painted. Theyd get dry and fall out but I always loveddd the markers!
Hi Temi. I have chronic hand joint pain. Please consider doing a video about art supplies that are easy to use. For example, what coloured pencil requires the least amount of pressure to colour the page? Or did you think markers would be easier to use? I need recommendations because I can’t afford to buy supplies that are not suitable. Thanks for the great videos and bearing my suggestion in mind.
A wonderful tip with the background is you coulf have gotten maybe a lighter orange or green and gone over the spots that were lighter bc often times the pigment will next settle where there’s free space! The formula for the blue on itself won’t do the same bc it’ll stick together easier and want to slip and slide. With the hand, a base of the color pencils, even just a white one, would allow the markers to mix more and even allow u to wipe away any thing that messes up. I also noticed you didn’t do a thumbnail for this piece outside of the sketch. A thumbnail practice is what drawingwithwaffles does and I’ve noticed it to help them a lot! The marker for the deepest parts and the color pencil or crayons for the lighter parts of the hand I think would have given you that sharp contrast for the holographic look but also the glow and soften was with the warmer colors through the crayons or color pencils
I really attempted mixed media with this piece, but I regret doing the background! Should I try this challenge again? 👀💙

Yes, please!!! I’d love to see Ohuhu markers and colored pencils. 😊

Thank you so much 😀
This truly brought me back to my childhood ✨ in a great way haha. I don’t think I everrrr painted. Theyd get dry and fall out but I always loveddd the markers!
OMG the first kit I literally have that but I don’t have the crayons I have pastels OMggGg❤❤❤
Markers would probably be easier to use since you don’t need to push down hard on those
Omg I had a kit like this when I was a kid 😭 brings back memories from using what was available

1:35 Yes! I always reorganize my colored pencils in rainbow order. It just feels better that way y'know?
