I was a student for four years, 1962-1966, at Whitman College and loved it. Judging by this video, it has changed a lot physically but is still one of the most outstanding colleges in the US. I am proud to have graduated from Whitman and, if I could live my life again, I would again go to Whitman. Whitman gave me the academic foundation to go on to earn my PhD from Johns Hopkins University, another great school. After working for the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, I have lived overseas for the last 50 years, in France, UK, Indonesia, and my adopted country Australia (in Perth, on the Indian Ocean) as a University professor. After retiring, most recently I lived for seven years in Jakarta, Indonesia, before having to return to Australia because of the pandemic. I want to thank Whitman for giving me the courage and preparation for a professional and satisfying life overseas.
Didn’t even recognized the College until 2:25 in... it’s certainly grown by leaps and bounds. It was annoying that North Hall wasn’t mentioned. Did it cease to be a dorm? Dude needs to chill on the s’mores though. - F-15E Strike Eagle pilot (USAF)
There was a time when Whitman was a fine school. Since then it has been polluted by abject luxury, divisive identity politics, and an over-compensated administration. There's very interesting recent interview with a N. Korean defector, who later obtained a Humanities degree at Columbia. I suspect her estimation of the value of that experience would be very helpful to those seeking a liberal arts degree from Whitman. See ruclips.net/video/8yqa-SdJtT4/видео.html .
I know Whitman is great (I am a graduate) but the impression I am left with by this video is off putting. Compared to the past, this video makes Whitman now look like a rest home for over indulged, entitled, upper middle class, spoiled students expecting the soft comforts of life.
