My middle kid and I did many of these trails one day as a last minute Sunday trip. Had just purchased a stock jlu sahara. We have since been looking for a group of not just wrangler owners to ride & camp with. The trail leading up the poweline lookout I think can handle polling an overlanding camper (teardrop with lift) and we plan to try and perch it up on some the rockies overlook camping sites along the trail and do some hiking and dirt bike trail riding.
Well John. You did it again man! Busted a fat tear with the opening monologue. Sorry about the passing of your dad. The opening said it all and is so true. “Die with memories, Not dreams”. Always planning on trips with my dad… Some pan out and some don’t. Need to make more of them happen with my dad and family….
What a beautiful, touching, and inspiring opening. Sorry for your loss but thanks for sharing the story with us. Thanks for checking out Alabama! You picked some great spots. Subscribed!
My condolences on losing your father. I've been out a few rimes with my sons and will make a point of planning to go out with my dad the next time he's in GA... Thanks for sharing your experience.
Great video man. My deepest condolences again for the loss of your father. May he rest in eternal peace. He was there on that trip...he enjoyed it as much as you did.
Awesome video Jon. Loved the intro and talking about your dad. It was hard to hold back tears. I’m sure he is very proud of you and all you have accomplished 😇
Man great video. I just bought a 4Runner to have fun and enjoy things like that. Mad respect for cleaning up other peoples trash and keeping the park clean. From panhandle of Florida and that power line trail looks crazy steep to me.
Glad I saw this video. We were going to try to pull an offroad camper on these trails, but now I see we will need to base camp and leave the camper behind. Sorry for the loss of your dad.
I live nearby and have driven that road "Sky line drive" 600-1 FOR 30+ years. Thats the best camp site on the trail since they put a gate going up to the fire tower.
First off, sorry about your Dad. Losing a beloved parent is always tough. Thanks for this video, I would have never expected this from a small NF in Alabama. I came down to SAVE and had plans to visit and meet you, but fate took a turn I wasn't expecting. I camped Wednesday night in Osceola NF and was in the Starke, Fl Walmart Thursday morning when I got a call to return home to NC at once. After much concern, everything worked out, but unfortunately, I missed SAVE. I guess next year. Your message about memories instead of dreams was very appropriate as I too am in a fight with cancer. At least I did get to do a small portion of the FAT and will have to get back for the rest. Seeing those three Monteros on one trail was interesting, I've seen those guys on FAT videos before.
I'll try and remember to get back with you. I have it paused at the moment because had some timber cut and the road off the hill needs to settle. Wouldn't be a problem with a 4x4, but I've learned it's impossible to trust random people's driving skills and vehicles 🤣
@@SunshineStateAdventureCo it's under Bug Tussle Creek Bend is the name of the campsite, but I'm thinking about opening another site for Overland type vehicles that will have to cross Dorsey Creek.
It was! But I'm glad I did it. I hope it makes people think... Evaluate their own priorities and soak up the time they have left with the people they love.
@@SunshineStateAdventureCo Honestly thats the exact reason I started a RUclips channel. This way I live forever through videos with friends and family for years to come❤️
I grew up near Talladega and have been to Little River Canyon. The northern half of Alabama is absolutely beautiful. Bankhead, to the west, is also gorgeous country but Im not sure about the 4wd trails.
This is in dispute but it is a long standing forest road and im sure the gate wont stay. I have heard the gate is currently open until the legalities are settled. R Forest road is 600-2.
The streams are water crossings clearly marked as “FORDS” you are supposed to cross them. We spoke with the federal forestry cops just after crossing the river zero issue. Everyone has to cross there. He did as well.
Bulls gap hwy 148 sylacauga AL 35150. Forest road 600-1 just past rocky mtn church rd at the top of the gap. It runs along the ridge to hwy 77 in chandler springs. Pack a lunch, the road is 4 to 5 hours long.

Great intro. ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Sorry to hear about ur father. I'm 30 min away from Cheaha, TNF, maybe wel see ya on the trail sometime 🙏🤙
I have a Hipcamp site a couple of miles from Stoney Lonesome. Love to get more Overlanders in or group stays to ride Stoney.
Shoot me an email. Would love to check out your spot and possibly promote it as well. sunshinestateadvco@gmail.com

Was the full 27 mile trial available? I heard a gate was added?
I skipped this one as I hadn’t heard a clear answer regarding this either.

if you in the forest --dont -dont get cought in the streams !!!!!! big fine

Sorry for your loss. Is there a gpx file for this trail?
Working on it. Will be releasing one here soon. 👍👍💪💪
power line road this summery was closed
If you are trying to say “this summer” that may be true. However last year it was not. Clearly open. No signs. We respect closed road signs. 👍👍
if you did this trip in one day how long would it take you?
sorry if you did just 600-1
4-5 hours if no stopping. 600-1 is about 15 miles.
Can you share a map of this route?
