I’ve flown to Brazil and seen several games. The crazy thing is that my son had a soccer camp in Seattle and his coach lived where we were going in 3 weeks so he told us to call him. He had played with Pelé for 12 years and had been on 2-3 World Cup teams. He took us to several restaurants and wouldn’t let us pay. He took us to a game and we sat in box seats, he took us to the Santos soccer museum which he was in. We were hanging out with retired people soccer players. It was like a dream come true for my son. People thought we were celebrities or something because we were hanging out with a star. He even brought us to the Santos training facility. Edu Americano is his name.

@@ghana21 Scholes isn't someone I'd think of for true "long shots". He was more like Lampard - anywhere from just inside the box to the just outside the D, he was deadly. Still a better midfielder all round than most of the long shot specialists, though. I'm no United fan, but you have to have huge respect for Scholes. If he'd been a better tackler, he'd have been the perfect CM (or close enough).
Arie Haan's goal against Zoff is legendary and epic. From a time when curved shots like that were rather rare, Ari formed his technique within kicking to a unique style that allowed him to curve it with high speed. Now THAT was impressive!!!
We shouldn't forget Nelinho of Brazil as well, the master of curved shots, his goal against the same Dino Zoff in the WC 1978 was pure class, you can find a short tribute video of him during his playing days for Cruzeiro and Brazil, the man was consistent in scoring these long shots goals and free kicks.
And Zoff already saw it coming, warning his team ... So although he knew the shot was coming he still could not stop it. Zoff being The world class keeper. Yup that Haan goal sure is memorable!
