I read this comment from someone quoting Pablo non- verbatim: ' the wolf wears sheep's clothing not to deceive, but to protect itself from the world that hates it. '
I didn't see the short film because I live overseas, but as I was told by other A'tin it's very deep. Not everyone can interpret the storyline or it can be interpreted in many different ways. In short, not fir everyone's taste. After watching the MV, my take away is this. Pablo in sheep's clothing came from nowhere (since it was not clearly presented where he came from) bruised, dirty, probably stinks can be a symbol of depression. We don't really know it's already taking over and we don't know where it came from exactly. But it carries all the wounds, bruises and dark secrets of our trauma. Pablo is hiding it (hence the sheep clothing) for he might be afraid others will see it, it's his best effort to hide what's within. Trying to blend in the town ( society) thinking covering his body will do its job but it just made him stood out more and look strange. Children (may symbol ignorance) still pokes him and make fun of him. Not really knowing he is exhausted and sad. He grabs the fish the only food he can grab at the moment to sasiate hus hunger ( fish can be interpreted as the love he longs for). And because it's laid in there he thought he can just grab it. But it's with a price. Pablo was drawn away by the merchant. So he is now a "bad guy" in their eyes. Pablo's situation is more than confusing by everyone who will look at it as it is. Just like inner struggle, not even the person who carries it can explain it. What more the others. And there, pure hearts will just take you in regardless. A child and an old lady. Pureness and wisdom in one abode. And for someone who is used to be judged, he gets weirded out. Pablo experienced acceptance and belongingness from the people with pure intentions. But when things turn into something unfortunate he quickly withdraw himself thinking he causes all the troubles. He is doomed. So he would rather not involve himself to anyone. Blaming no one but himself. Isolation is his solution. But the child tried to catch him. I hope there is one shot that shows the child found him in the part "wag mong solohin ang mundo." It would be more redeeming. The world is corrupted so it's not fair for everyone. I hope we can still stand up for someone who needs more kindness than judgment.
Hi! One of Pablo's creative skills (among the many in his artistic arsenal) is re-purposing existing words/phrases, and adding his own twist, giving new meanings to them. (Two examples: First, he thought up the fandom's name A'TIN, which is based on the Tagalog word "atin" (meaning "ours"), but by setting off the A (in honor of "Aurum", the name of their first dedicated fan-group) and changing its pronunciation (to sound like "18"), he implanted new layers of meaning into the name. Second, the "SB" in the band's name originally stood for "ShowBT", from the name of the company that used to manage them, but he reinterpreted it as "Sound Break" when they began to break away/distance themselves from the former and they started to push their own identity.) So Pablo likes to re-use a word/phrase that is already familiar to most of us, then he reinvents it to make it distinctive or unique. This can also be seen in the titles he has chosen for many of his compositions. They are playfully inventive variations of common words -- such as WHAT? (besides the question, it's a play on "watawat" / flag), SLMT ("Salamat" / thanks, but highlighting that A representing A'TIN completes them), IKAKO (blend of "Ikaw" and "Ako", meaning "You" and "Me" together), and KELAN, NEUMUN, MICHA! (re-spellings of "Kailan" / when, "new moon" and "mitsa" / fuse, which makes them instantly recognizable as Pablo's). ... Which brings us to this song, "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Here, Pablo repurposed the title of the famous fable by Aesop (about a shepherd whose repeated lies caused his village to have no belief in him) and, as AJ and Tanya pointed out, the expression "a wolf in sheep's clothing" (someone pretending to be what they're not, usually to lull others into a false sense of security that the "wolf" will later exploit). AJ and Tanya already discussed how Pablo turns the saying on its head, how the "wolf" is not always the "bad wolf" that people automatically react negatively to, but could be someone who is just misunderstood and is targeted as a scapegoat or sacrificial lamb. With the title, Pablo retains some key elements of the fable: the boy who is not being true, who fails the villagers' expectations of him. But Pablo puts these ingredients in a blender -- here, the twist is it's the "boy" who is trying to conceal the "wolf-like" parts of himself ("to face myself and find that I'm the biggest lie I'm trying to hide"), and it is the "wolf" who we see is the one who cries. With "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", Pablo shows again how he is a master (an "alpha wolf") of taking old ideas and images and imbuing them with his own brand of intellectually and emotionally rich artistry, prompting us to see familiar things in a new light.
The sheep's clothing of Pablo seems like it's his comfort clothing. He feels safe wearing it.The lady made him remove it when she said in the short film that he no longer needs to wear it. Perhaps because he was welcomed and he felt belonged to the lady's family that's why he let his guard down. But the moment he allowed the lady to take it off, the lady died of sickness. He went back to zero and maybe even blamed himself for what happened. Very tragic. 😓
Pablo wore that sheep's clothing to protect himself from judgment because most people judged him based on his looks alone. You will see Pablo's kindness in one of the scenes. Pablo was about to eat the apple because he was really hungry, but he still gave the apple to the boy. This means the wolf is kind, but due to his looks, most people still see him as bad. That's how people are in society. We tend to judge easily without knowing the person first.
Nice analysis of the music video. It’s really relatable. People are easy to judge based on your looks. They are in denial that most people have their own problems, even themselves. So they should not be judgemental.
Most of the scenes in this music video were taken from the short film Una. In that film, the woman dies because she was already sick even before meeting Pablo. The scene is particularly sad because, just as he starts to feel at ease with her, she suddenly dies. He runs away, possibly because he knows he will be blamed for what happened. This scene with granny is so sad.🥹
Watched Pablo's vid on his POV on this song actually with other songs in Alon album..it's in the lyrics and the mv is from UNA short film clip..we cried at the theater that time..
The scenes in the MV were taken from some of the scenes the short film but were rearranged to give a slightly different story. The film's ending was open- ended while this MV shows him being back from where he started - alone, a castaway and an outcast.
in this video what i understand is he is that child he's just seeing things remembering his past .... when the old lady got into the picture it dawn to me Beautiful...
Seeng your comnent made me realize something, probably you are right. Because Pablo mention before that the child and him are one the child is the one saying " huwag mong solohin ang mundo dba dalawa na tayo". I just don't remember where did he mention it if its interview or one of his tiktok live.

Woww what a very nice explanation. We really can tell Pablo's works of artistry on another top level.
ty for sharing this..❤
Long explanation but it's all worth to read for. Thank you so much Kaps

I like your analysis and how you explained the meaning of the MV.

Great insights. Thanks for your input. Made me appreciate the song and the MV a lot more
