I know this is a bit late to reply to you but wouldn't it be better for the leather for the laser to cut the baggage tags rather than the press? I'm asking because I believe the laser does seal the edges up.
Awesome! I have a little question... I am renovating a real leather coat/jacket and I am thinking about engraving something on the outside. My question is, what does the engraving do with the leather regarding to the weather? Can it become too thin to stop wind, rain and snow? Do you have advise about coatings (to apply before and/or after the laser engraving process) or something like that? Sorry for the long post! Greetings from The Netherlands ♥️
Hi Lisa, leather is much thicker than cotton and even denim, it shouldn't go through. We suggest engrave little square somewhere on the inside of the jacket to find the right setting, start low-power and increase slowly until you have the desired results.
Montypaks great question. When you laser cut the leather it leaves a burnt edge, something you would need to treat after. If its a detailed cut then its worth it, but in their case they are more basic shapes so its faster to get it done with the press
Great comment, but again that depends if you're mass-producing them. Let's say you're making 36 at a time than can fit on a Trotec laser. It would be much faster to cut them in one laser job than to put into the metal cutter outline each time, stamp it, then take it out - so yes it all depends on the application and volume.
Very nice... Do we use adobe illustrator with your laser? I'm based in India, do you have any links out here as I'm interested. Also roughly how much does it cost...speedy 300.
Hello, yes you can use any design software including Illustrator. We recommend to reach out to our office in India, they can give you pricing: TRODAT MARKING INDIA PRIVATE LTD PLOT 481P., SECTOR-37, PACE CITY II,, GURGAON, IN +91-124-4558700
Hi Vimal, yes we answered it in the comments. For intricate and custom designs a laser is better, but if you are mass producing simple shapes the blade cutter can be quicker since its just a quick snap.
I've just got a CO2 40watt K40 laser and planned to engrave on some leather "but" I came across a warning online that said "don't" because it can be dangerous as it will give off odors containing chemicals during the process that can be deadly,is this true or false information?
Hi Joe there is no evidence that laser engraving natural leather is toxic to people. It will cause a bad smell though. As for synthetic leather always make sure to get the msds and make sure there is no PVC in it.
Make sure to avoid synthetic leather yes, but most modern natural leathers are tanned using a chrome solution as well which is what I imagine the warning was about. Don't want heavy metal particles floating about. Make sure to use veg tanned leather and there will be no issues except a bad smell.
150 years years later an admirer of beautifully hand crafted products would hold this in hands and say: " beautifully made and intact as the day one! ". Then that person would say: " I wonder who was the GUY that made this !? "
There are many formats that work with the laser machine, you just need to "print" it from any design software (works like a print driver). You can engraving a black/white image onto leather.
Hi Henry, for leather you don't need a lot of power but it all comes down to the relative size of your leather pieces. What is the largest leather piece you will be cutting/engraving?

Anyone ordering a house Stark sigil for their wedding party cufflink has clearly not been paying attention to the Starks wedding track record. Just saying.
@@TrotecLaserCanada Touché, as I think of it now, I'm not sure why people in that series ever even consider getting married. Seems like if you vow to never get married you get free resurrection, and if you do get married they start processing your death certificate by default in the paperwork.
How are you cleaning the leather after engraving? I’m left with “soot” in the engraved areas. I’ve seen people use toothbrush and soap but after one attempt of that I ended up scarring the leather.
Fun to watch, but.........PLEASE LOSE THE MUSIC. It covers your voice and adds nothing to the presentation. It isn't even good music. I can never understand why RUclipsrs insist on using music when nat sound is so much more appealing.
I remember doing a repair on one of those presses. In New Zealand we called it a "Clicking Press". Great presentation.
Thanks Peter!
Really clear and well presented. I learnt heaps to help my own project and use of Epilog and pleather. Thanks Victoria.
LUV the ring… 😁
I love that cutter machine!!!!!!
Thanks!
great video. thanks for the ideas
thanks Victoria. Great video. Subscribed after watching this video! Natural and talented presenter :)

Do you have any experience using pleather and ultrasonic sealing/sewing?
Super nice workshop!
Yea they got a great operation going.
Interesting. How do you get the awful smell of burned leather off though?

Hi mam please provide importers of lather products
May be I am wrong. But you could have cut the leather using laser machine itself. Any particular reason for using the 2tonne machine?

What sewing machine are you using?
Hi Lucy, we don't know as it's a client video. You may want to ask Divina Denuevo directly. Thanks!
Great video, I maybe would have skipped the part where she is using trademarked designs (wolf of winter from Game of Thrones.)
William Fellows that was just a sample thanks for the comment!

Why doesn't she just use the laser to cut the leather instead of getting dies made? Is there a downside to using the laser for this?
