I love to listen to Ray White sing.
So, somewhere in them early 80s, I was working a weird gig where I drove a 19ft truck setting up "art shows" in the Midwest, where I sold oil paintings on consignment to hospitals and other such institutions that my cheapskate bosses bought in Hong Kong for pennies at "art studios" and then smuggled into the US on their private jet, after which they paid local hippies minimum wage to stretch these masterpieces on cheap frames they had imported from Mexico, whereupon they would give me copious handfuls of speed and send me out on 20-hour days to peddle this sht.
And so, one night I'm coming into Champaign-Urbana from Chicago at like 2 in the morning, I'm bug-eyed from all the speed and haven't really slept in days...and my tapedeck is playing "City of Tiny Lights" just as I'm coming out of a hundred miles of darkened cornfields, deeply hallucinating, and sure enough, there's a city of tiny lights on the horizon. Some impressions are indelible. Yowza, folks, as Uncle Frank used to say...
