@@dontmisschris7248 do you soak in water (with or without soda ash) after tying it all up? Or do you apply the dye to a dry shirt? Thanks in advance!

@@seitavw I tie and dye dry then irrigate with a hot, concentrated soda ash solution slowly misted from a pump sprayer to fix the dyes to the fabric (pariah method).

The soda ash solution should be 1 pt soda ash powder (measured dry by volume, not by water displacement) to 4 pts water. And it should be between 140-150 degrees Fahrenheit ideally if you want to rapidly cure your dyes but no hotter than 150 or some dye color can be damaged by the heat. Alternatively you can use a room temp to warm solution (same strength) and let it batch for a few hours or overnight and then irrigate with hot water. This can sometimes help (with the slower curing time due to the lower temp) push the dyes deeper into folds and tightly bound fabric before being fully set and no longer active. Sometimes helps a bit if you’re having saturation issues. But if you get your saturation down the first method is more efficient and works just as well. Hope that helps!

Is that sinew? Or nylon ??

Thanks for checking out my video! I used clear fishing line here. I believe it is nylon but I’m not positive, I’ll double check when I get a chance. That being said… I was told recently that if I switch to braided fishing line it’s supposed to be much easier to work with so I will probably give that a try soon once I’m able to pick some up.

Having now tied quite a few shirts up with braided fishing line (after unfortunately having tied a bunch w mono-line before I knew better) I can now confirm the braided line is at least 1000x better than the nylon mono-line. Much easier to control and it (for the most part) doesn’t unravel after you’ve pulled it tight so your able to give your hands a rest every now and then without having to tie knots everywhere. So much easier on your hands and easier to unravel at the end (and potentially even save a good portion for reuse).
