My grandfather served on that ship in ww2. Navy seaman 2nd class. He was a signal men. We took him their to visit and gotta say it was an amazing experience for us and him. Ppl were taking pictures with and all. It was awesome!! They announced his name through the intercom letting tourists know that he aboard the ship. Truy amazing. Thank you for sharing!!
lots of history on that old ship. decommissioned in the 70's & relegated to a pilot training ship till the early 90's, stationed in pensacola, fl. video brings back many memories...glad to see she still serves...had no idea it was still available to tour! thx for the memories..
Eric, Thank you for taking us along on your tour! I was a catapult crewman onboard the USS Constellation. It was wonderful to see the inside of an Aircraft Carrier once again. God Speed!
I was aboard the "Lady Lex" when we brought her from San Diego to Norfolk, Va. back in July-Sept. 1962. It was put in the shipyards then and converted to a training carrier for the Navy and designated as CVT-16. My first Navy cruise after boot camp in San Diego. Thanks for the great memories!
That's awesome to here, I'm actually from Corpus Christi and have had the pleasure of boarding this beautiful ship man time. It's awesome to here someone one with real history with the Lexington thank you for sharing your story and for your service God bless!
Thanks for showing this tour eric, my grandfather served on the Lexington during ww2 as a gunners mate. I went to Pensecola floridia in the early 90's with him to go to the ship's decommissioning ceromoney. He passed away in 2002 but the stories he told me will live on with me and its great to see the ship looking so good. You lit a fire under my ass, i gotta get down to see it again.
My very good friend and classmate served onboard the Lexington around 1960 or so when he was in the Navy. Years later when I toured the Lexington I sent him a card about it. But he has since passed away. They also gave a demonstration of that huge elevator that raises and lowers those planes.
My dad was a part of the first crew on the Lexington and was stationed on her until the end of WWII. He was a bosun's mate and often steered the ship. His battle station was as part of a five inch 38 gun. I was able to visit her while she was still commissioned and stationed at Pensacola, Florida.
Thanks for sharing your tour of this beautiful ship. It is so nice to see these things and not have to travel there. There are lots of people who can't travel and you make these places visual for them.
Eric, Thank you for all your wonderful videos and sharing your adventures with us! I am disabled and my dream is to eventually get an RV and travel. In the mean time, I can travel through you and your beautiful camera work. You are an inspiration. Sending kitty loves to Jax💜
Been there twice. Enjoyed it but it's been awhile. There is a much larger display of planes now. Your tour made me want to go back! If you pass thru Mobile drop by the Battleship Alabama and the submarine they have there. It's an awesome display of Americas WWII military might. Thanks for the tour!
Thanks for the tour Eric, I had a relative in the Navy back in the 70's and had a chance to tour about every type of U,S, Navy vessel that came into Norfolk Va. but never had an opportunity to tour a flat top. now I am disabled and could never take the tour that you took so thanks again for showing yours even if it was a fast one. Also glad to see Jax appears to be doing very well since his last Vet visit. I bought a covered litter box for my cat that has a filter in the cover but had to zip tie it in because she kept pulling it out . Unfortunately she's not as laid back as Jax is and tries to find a way to destroy everything I get for her.
Notice they had two barber shops, one with four chairs and one with one chair. The difference was the tile on the floor. Any area that was exclusively for Officers had blue tile, all other areas were for all personnel. So if you were enlisted (not an officer who was commissioned) you were not allowed to go into areas that had blue tile, it was called Officer country. Lots of good stuff here, thanks for the Video and attention to showing the tour, this is why I love your channel!! Cheers
My great grandfather was on the USS Lexington, he survived and managed to grab a piece of the flight deck before it was destroyed, which I keep still today. He died recently.
The Forrestal, Saratoga, Enterprise, Nimitz and Kennedy were my babies (retired a few years back), a few of which are gone and we are now shaving with them, sadly. You do get used to moving around the ships, but you never see it all. And the food "never" looked that good. Thanks for the tour and the memories!
Fafafafantastic.... had me glued to the screen ... Thank you .... for the tour. Your vids are smooth clear and wide angles are great . Before I forget ...I like the overhead shot at the beginning , showing the RV etc ....Cheers Alberta ....Dave
9:45 To answer your question; you're lost for about the first 30 days after you arrive on an aircraft carrier, then you start to know your way around. I was stationed on the Ranger CV-61 from 1977-1980. Pretty much what you do is follow the line of people at meal times so you can find the mess decks.
04dakota. I left her in 82 but she sure looks like someone makes her out as a ww2 carrier. she is not. after sbc upgrade in 1951 she was basically a new ship. Hated the officers on this ship. they were useless.
Eric please don't appologise for the length of the videos. For someone like me who is disabled the longer the better. Also please don't hate the youtube comments because this is my only way to comment .
If you got some extra footage please make a part two to this video. Would love to see more of the ship. Yes it's a city that floats. Has to be like that to keep everybody going.
wow awesome! Eric, I loved the shot of that bridge too. I love bridges. Nuts I know. You know, the people on the travel channel who travel all over the place telling and showing people what they are seeing, well that is what you do. I have been all over the world thru other peoples' eyes. Been to places I would never get to see in person. Thanks Eric! You have a great personality. I hope people with ugly hearts don't rob you of your wonderful smile and joyful personality. Let your light shine :-).
Right now, with 2 ft of new snow outside and it still snowing here in Syracuse NY, I'd love to be there !! Thanks for a great "highlites" video. Just Awesome. It on my Bucket list !!
Mr.Jax and Eric i watch tons of videos everyday about 15gbts a month, and yours hands down make me feel good and when your body hurts like mine that means a bunch, Mr.Jax and Eric.
Once again a fantastic tour of a piece of history I will never get to visit in my lifetime living in the United Kingdom. Its fantastic seeing places like this and The Alamo through your eyes rather than a cold travel film.
loved this video! Very informative and interesting. I was in the Navy aboard a DE so this was cool to see! when the astronauts returned from the moon we saw their capsule glide by out Destroyer Escort inside Pearl Harbor ...
Eric, loyal fan and watcher here, just wanted to give you a little Navy jargon so if your ever talking to a Sailor or veteran you can start a good convo with them. Carriers, cruisers, destroyers, frigates and Amphibs are called ships. Subs, tugs, minesweepers, and boats attached to ships are called boats! If your ever up around Gettysburg Pa. Give me a shout! Mike Tracy Hanover Pa.
That is the same box we just got for our cats. Weird. We like it also, but may go back to the old one because the base doesn't fit through the closet door very well. Awesome mini-tour. Definitely places the Lexington on our list for our future Texas trip.
Sure is a lot cleaner , shinier and quieter than it was the 3 years I was on her, and the "Fighter" at the beginning of the tour is an attack aircraft not fighter , Thanks for the tour the ole Blue ghost is looking good
my dad was on that ship.....i took a dependents cruise on that thing when i was 14 stood on the flight deck an watch tom cats land a take off ....he was a BT 1st class btw awesome ship
Thank you so much. Love the vid. THE BEST! My father was a WWII Navy Diver. If you see a WWII vet, please take the time to speak with them, and Thank them. They are so interesting and always have a story to tell. I just wish many more were around. I miss my father every day. Love you Poppy'
Mohan Vegesna Whatever floats your boat. I'm not going to sit here and try to convince you, I just simply wanted to give you a heads up. If you're going to ignore it, that's on you. Cheers.
Next to the battleship TEXAS, the LEXI is our state most beloved Naval ship and the only aircraft carrier that we have on display. Thanks for doing as detailed of a tour as what you did. I toward the Lexi with my grandson about 10 years ago and we only did the main deck and flight deck and the movie theater part because that was about all of it that his 5 year old legs could handle it the time. We never did make it blow deck.
Eric. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou. Thoroughly enjoyed the video. would of loved to of seen all the video. maybe you should of done part II. Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for the tour. I landed on the Lex many times as a flight instructor with students flying the twin engine S2 . That is the only training aircraft missing from the display. It should be on display because it was the only multiengine trainer and the S2 training squadrons were based at NAS Corpus Christi. 19:28

Really glad to see your efforts have brought you a chance for a newer home, and a chance to show us some new places. 2016 is going to be a great year!
Thank you so much for taking us on this tour, it was really interesting! Glad you found Jax a new box, and that he is enjoying it.
A lot of work goes into these videos; thank you Eric, awesome tour!
So good to see you in your new RV, glad you have brought us along on your journey.
For me the tour just flew by. Going to have to put this museum on my list of things to see, when I have the opportunity. Thanks, Eric!
Thanks for sharing your tour of this beautiful ship. It is so nice to see these things and not have to travel there. There are lots of people who can't travel and you make these places visual for them.

Forgot to mention the subs name is the Drum. A great display of Gato class subs.

I was on a WW2 aircraft carrier back in 56-58. You brought back many memories. Thanks.
