Out of everything I've read on my type, this is the first source I've seen that said that istp enjoy learning skills to teach to others. This idea is very helpful for me becuase it's actually something I do quite a bit but never really realized.
I find myself bored with my job after only 2 years (autobody work) and I am itching to get out and learn something new.
I noticed that when I get the chance to train or teach someone how to do the work I do, I get very lively and talkative. I explain things very clearly and enjoy the day quite a bit.

Same, as a mechanic in the army I found that just learning shit never stuck but as soon as I hit that 2 year mark and we got new guys that I had to teach everything stuck with me so much more, on a deeper level, it was insane to think that I had to be in such a situation for my true skills to surface

I don't think ISTP's think their dum I just think they respect the process of growth so much that they tend to take a very humble approach when someone labels us as smart, however when angry in a debate or stand off we could get a little punchy real quick.

Okay ISTP's, aside from teaching, how do you get motived? He mentioned we have willpower instead of discipline which I find to be true.
Something that works for me is "dopamine dieting" in which I avoid pleasure in the first part of the day so I can more easily get myself to focus on less pleasurable work activities.

Its not so much as thinking we are dumb. It's as we learn something, we are aware that the more you know, the more you realize you don't know. As you say we like to be teachers, and because of this we want to make sure we have all the information until we try to convince or teach someone.

I kinda have this issue now lol. It’s tricky for me because no one really care about what I know. It’s usually met with “oh you think your better than us” or “no one likes a know it all”. Plus I can’t get motivated to learn new things because when I need the time to be by myself and research and learn.... people just think I’m mad/grumpy or only care about myself.

    • @MyRUTH98

Yes that's true... People just don't want to learn... Suppose I find something interesting and I spent all of my time researching about it...and when I finally understand, I'll be super excited to share my knowledge and have discussions based on it... But then, they wouldn't really pay attention to me, and might even jump on other topics in between my topic.... I hate that so much.... And then,I'll be like , if they don't want to know ,it's their loss, but I'm still gonna feel bad.

C.S. Joseph, this is excellently observed about istp motivation. My husband is an istp and the older he gets, the more of his time is spent helping people in one way or another (behind the scenes).... he gets better and better, and I think this video of yours will help him hugely to understand his depressions and highs. Thanks. I think lots of mbti students don't realise the subconscious teacher/learner aspect of the istp. I didn't, myself, till recently observing him and thinking about it - and your video helps me see this more clearly.

I laughed so hard the moment the screen came up. That backwards hat… omg. Right now I’m following Chase’s advice to get really good at BJJ and started teaching it to other people. I’ve been taking all the things I know from weight lifting, nutrition, mobility, etc. to optimize all the skills in BJJ. I think teaching can seem unappealing because it feels like it is slowing down our own progress. What sucks is because if we are going to continue to teach other people, because of the Te nemesis combined with Fe inferior, we think we don’t know enough so we constantly have to dip into our ESTJ shadow to go get more information to go teach. I’ve been more disciplined in this for the last month or so and it sucks, however my life is moving forward and I know it will create opportunities for me down the road.

My son stopped talking to me & sharing his life with me over two years ago. I have become so melancholy ever since & my inspiration doesn't even exist anymore! I literally feel like an empty shell. It seems that I will pull myself out of it and try for a day or two and then it swallows me again for months. I don't know how to fix this or stop caring about it. If it were anyone else, it wouldn't be a problem for me. Half of my heart feels as if it is gone, (literally), as well as the blood & strength that it provided. My chest hurts as if it is gone too.
I am usually a 'habitual teacher', whenever I speak. That's not an effort, it is my natural speaking context. I don't care about talking to anyone, at all! I am disabled but I've always had too many projects & I'm usually, always creating something and working on things to fix or repair. Now it seems that everything is so damn hard! My natural 'oneness with my physical physics/kinetics', abilities & dexterity, has declined because of age and surgeries, but now it seems like it is replaced with clumsiness, more disability, limitations that I cannot overcome & constant injury.
I'm looking around at the evidence of the 'nothingness' that I have become over the last 2+ years & I am lost. My natural optimism and will to 'try until I die' isn't in me anymore. And even if I think it is, it isn't significant enough to repair my brokenness.
My usual fix for everything has always been to work. Work through and everything else works itself out. But now? Not one damn thing looks workable! As an ISTP, I never could consider defeat or wrap my head around accepting it. (I guess I am still not accepting it because I am writing this, knowing others will see it & hoping for an answer that I can try & regain me). Am I desperate C.S. Joseph? I guess I am. I believe 'defeat' is beating the living shite out of me & it is going to kill me! And I don't care enough about anything to stop it. An "I love you Momma" from my son every week or month & the possibility of him needing me for something were my joy, fulfillment & reason for living.

As an INTP I can relate how Ti hero feeds off helping people with Fe. I was a pilot for 10 years and my greatest success came teaching people how to fly as a flight instructor for 4 years of that. My Se trickster was a thorn in my side my entire aviation career, though. And I only got as far as a 9 seater Cessna Caravan flying in the remote areas for northern Canada. My recommendations for INTPs and INFPs who want to be pilots or truck drivers: Embrace the small planes or trucks, and don't be disappointed if you aren't cut out to drive an 18 wheeler or fly a jet engine, even if your Se trickster tells you that you can starting out.

When my ISTP husband fucks up by simply not listening to something important (like important for relationships, which he is a beginner in compared to me) he will instead of listening and learning decide to just say "I'm stupid". He is not stupid AT ALL, he just decides that things that he doesn't receive an obvious direct benefit from are uninteresting to him. We all know in relationships we have to be interested in things sometimes that only benefit the other person, and through that we receive a benefit too, but sometimes a delayed benefit.

Interesting info on ISTPs though. I know one guy who I think is an ISTP. He teaches on the side, and has done so for a while, but he still appears very demotivated. I think it is for a combination of reasons but it is in part because he has decided that the people above him in his 9-5 are foolish, and the people below him act like children.

What do you think of paramedic for ISTP woman. I thought I was estp , but more learning ans holy hell I am painfully shocked at how exact ISTP is for me after a longer extensive absorbing a lot of these videos and learning Ans playing with what it all is etc. Trying to type others and understand blah blah. And idk how I missed it. ISTP 😂 had to be correct, it’s is creepily on, but stereotypes are very much sort of well known trades as career, I’ve always been fascinated with human physiology and all that stuff and love the gross dissections and all the guts and stuff so 😂 idk I think paramedic ? What do you think? Save money and move into a cabin like home in the woods and just run around with my machines (snowmobiles? Seadoo ? Canoeing around naked getting tan and relaxing Ans swimming lol, yoga outside in nature where I cannot even see neighbours only trees and lake lol. Ahhh yes. aand toys like want to play with making furniture for fun and maybe selling some on side maybe custom if get good with some woodworking or refurbishing old cheap pieces I find etc. and playing outside exploring various physical skills and activities in nature. Once in a while have friends come stay , then they go the fuck home hours away. Perfect. Lolol thoughts ? Close enough to city to go visit for specific fun weekends and events when I’m up to it. Too far to be a whorthehile visit for people except my little wolf pack 😂 yassss lol. 🌲🌲🌲🌲🪵

@@CSJoseph thank you for being willing to answer with this answer so I have no doubt to continue my carpentry ... may God bless you my lord ... but there is a word from my friend that carpentry works more in teams and interacts with people while electricians tend to work alone and not interacting with many people .. so according to you which of the two trades is more appropriate for an istp ... do I need to change direction and become an electrician because I tend to work independently?
