    • @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci

      That's very unlikely as she was from the pet trade so could be cross-bred (there are two distinct subspecies of orang-utans, Bornean and Sumatran) or inbred, which is a common issue in wild animals in the pet trade or unregulated zoos or circuses; facilities like Monkey World aren't allowed to breed orang-utans unless both parents are approved for breeding under the governing bodies that regulate the breeding of endangered species in captivity. They have to prioritize the long-term health and fitness of the subspecies. I doubt that Oshine would ever be approved for breeding, as sweet as she is, because too much is unknown about her genetic lineage. She will no doubt be happy to continue being a great foster mama/auntie to the little ones and bossing around the other females.😁

      @@KathyPrendergast-cu5ciand your weird comment about they can't breed an animal unless BOTH that animal's parents were approved for breeding?????? Uhhmmm NO. Please explain Wooley Monkey Oaska(RIP) then.............he was a wild caught before living at Basel Zoo, where he lived with Quapa until 2010, when they both came to Monkey World. He produced at least 5 babies while at MW, 4 of which which survived to adulthood; Milo, Xavi, Oriana and Olivia. And one granddaughter named Bonita from Olivia and Bueno Jr. who was born in February 2022.
      No one knew who his parents were, and yet Oaska was one of the most important breeding age Wooley Monkeys in captivity in the entire world, BECAUSE he was wild caught!!! They stated this multiple times throughout the show while he was still alive.

      @@0hMyLife If an animal was wild-caught that generally means it is genetically healthy and fit for breeding. It's animals that have been bred in captivity with unknown lineage that accredited facilities are not allowed to breed anymore. As I said, these rules only apply to certain species in captivity, not all. I don't know what all the specific rules are for each species, just that the rules governing the captive breeding of orang-utans are very strict. Maybe a wild-caught one would be allowed to breed, but not one rescued from the pet trade like Oshine. They have to think about the long-term health of the species as a whole, rather than just about individual animals.

    Have you tried to rescue any of the macaques that live alone or sometimes with one other in the parks of Vietnam? So depressing, they have strict laws on monkey ownership, but it continues, but then they put many of them back into a worse situation in public parks rather than a sanctuary 😢

    • @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci
      @KathyPrendergast-cu5ci Год назад +1

      I think Monkey World focuses on rescuing only species that are endangered, and macaques are the opposite of that. They're one of the most successful and widespread of monkeys; they tend to breed prodigiously everywhere they live, whether it's in the wild or urban areas, and the more human food there is for them to consume, the more they breed. They've become terrible nuisances in some parts of Japan, constantly raiding food crops, harassing tourists, etc. Most people love them but they can definitely become too much of a good thing. It's against the law to feed them but people still do it all the time, and it creates even more over-population, as well as making them bold and sometimes even dangerous with humans. They have bitten children on occasion. Even if humans don't feed them deliberately, they feast on garbage and litter. They're protected by law but fruit farmers in Japan have now started using large trained dogs to guard their crops from the monkeys. The dogs never hurt them; they just avoid the fields when the dogs are there, so it works reasonably well, but the farmers still lose a huge portion of their crops to them. I agree keeping them as pets is a horrible thing to do to them, as it is to any wild animal. People need to be educated to understand that as cute as these animals are as tiny babies, that cuteness doesn't last for very long. Monkeys are never good "pets" once they're mature; they're very smart but they're also destructive, disobedient, and strong-willed, and usually dislike all humans other than their owners. They can be aggressively protective and territorial, are very strong, and all can be vicious biters. They're not a true domesticated species like dogs and cats and even if they're hand-raised by a human they never completely stop being wild.

    This show prove to me yet again it’s all about getting ppl to watch, because there’s no other reason in the world to have that baby orangutan in there with that full grown orangutan, mother and father. There’s no telling what could happen to the baby yet they have done that to get Ratings gain viewers- all of the expense and risk of the animals you’re supposed to care about and want what’s best for. I knew they had some areas of this sanctuary that were BS. I figured that out whenever they kept saying that this or that one was rejected by his mother. 99.9% were supposedly rejected by their mother! The truth is the adult humans like to raise them! They criticize everybody else who raises them, but it’s OK if they do.?

It is nothing, but putting that baby at risk!!!the reason is in the wild, they do not have contact with their offspring. The mothers raise them alone without the father’s help. I guess will be lucky if he doesn’t kill the baby but then if he does, is the human beings, fault as usual!!!!!
