  • If your 2002-2008 SG Forester electric windows are getting slow or have jammed, this vid shows you how to repair the existing motor to save buying a replacement. Only basic to medium handy skills are required. The video has assumed you have the motor out and that you want to repair it. If you need to remove the door trim and motor, google this separately :-). A mobile phone camera is super handy so you can 'see' inside the door to locate window motor screws with your fingers.
    Time: About 3 hours,
    Tools required;
    • 10 mm socket (to loosen window mechanism from door),
    • Standard No.2 Phillips head bit (to remove / replace door trim),
    • 90 degree ratchet drive & No.3 Phillips head bit (to remove / replace door motor inside the door cavity),
    • Circlip pliers or small flat blade screw drivers (to dismantle door motor gearbox),
    • Large flat blade screw driver (to remove motor weather cap),
    • Pipe wrench or large pliers (to free seized drive shaft),
    • Silicone grease (WD40 can also be useful, but don't use it as a permanent lubricant),
    • 12 v battery for testing the motor is useful (heavy duty battery charger will also work),
    • Multi-meter for testing supply voltages (I also tested the window motor supply voltages and switch, which were OK).

    Are the screws that hold the motor in place 10mm bolt heads?
    Great video, going to save me another $100 now!

      Yes they are. Subies have a ton of 10 mm bolt heads securing lights, both front and back. Most have a Philips pattern as well, but these tend to slip, so use a socket if you have one.

      Mine had Phillips head screws, which if you slip and mash em up, your in trouble. I replaced them with hex heads.

      Have you checked the door switch? If all windows have just stopped working this could be the fault.
