The Golden boy is an amazing drive. Demo didn’t do it justice. Not even close.

Not in a rude way, the reason you are probably not hearing the slight differences in the Golden Boy ( or any other pedal here) is because the pedal volume seems to be driving the amp a whole bunch. Unity volume or near would probably help us hear the differences.

I’m continually amazed at how Chappers can make great gear sound so crap. I’ve stopped using Andertons videos where he plays to help me determine if I want to purchase something. Pete can usually get a better sound so I’ll consider those. I haven’t revisited chappers demos in a while so I thought, “Hey maybe it’s better now. Let’s give it a shot.” Sad to say still so bad it’s useless in helping me form an accurate opinion on the product. Shame really, I enjoy the banter and funny editing. Just please, get better guys, if you can. Thanks
I think the reason that different presets of the golden boy sounded similar was it’s output level was pushing the amp into overdrive, so we were hearing the amp front end break up as much as the pedal. Clearer test would have bypass signal and effect on level at unity, amp clean.
This demo does not in any way demonstrate how good these pedals are. It's a real shame actually. I own 3 of these and they are all amazing

I agree with many of the comments Pete would have been a much better fit for this demo. Chapman has literally been playing the same couple riffs forever which makes everything sound the same
I have owned and use the Golden Boy daily for the past month. This video does not represent how good the tone of the pedal is IMO. It sounds thin and borderline shrill at times in the video, which is a shame as the pedal sounds fantastic in person.
I have one, comme si comme ça. This pedal sounds squeaky I can't adjust it
I was really surprised you didn't get more variation on the Golden Boy. I use one as my overdrive and have had a very different experience. The blue and magenta modes are similar (but not the same), but the green, orange, and blue/magenta modes all sound extremely different. There are also multiple boost options which further color the sound that you didn't explore in the video. I've no idea why they sounded so similar for you.
I agree. I have one and I find all the modes very usable and different enough that I would change modes for different songs/styles. Have to admit though that the differences didn't really come across via the audio - although I did recognise the gritty character of the Timmy/KoT mode - not my favourite
Is this pedal worth using if you don't have a midi controller?
That compressor was awesome, I don't know how you made that les paul sounds so harsh and scratchy though, if only I could afford any of these pedals, the midi controllaboloty and la2a style circuit in that compressor is such a winner

"Golden Boy" is the collectively recognized nickname for the statue atop the provincial legislature building in Winnipeg, Joey Landreth's home town. As the Wikipedia entry states, Golden Boy is "arguably Manitoba's best known symbol" ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Boy_(Manitoba) ).

I’ve been using a Golden Boy since it came out, mine doesn’t sound like an AM radio, not sure how you got such bad sounds out of it....and you didn’t do the Broken Arrow which is the best pedal they make...
The Bloom button magic Capt was doing holding it down actually fades in and hold it again fades out the Bloom level.
That big red rock in the middle of Australia used to be called Ayers Rock but is now known by its aboriginal name 'Uluru".
The Golden boy is a killer pedal. I don't think you were switching through correctly. I think you were cycling the gain. It's also based on the BB circuit. Joey Landreth signature pedal.

Rob is brilliant. I'm don't want to knock him but for compressors (and maybe low gain drive pedals too) not sure he's the right guy for the demo. Especially when Pete rules at this.

I just use an SD-1 and and a EH reverb pedal. ( Boss TU-3)
maybe the golden boy drive differences would have been heard better with a strat. prism is my favorite. very nice compression too

Ayer's rock is more properly called Uluru (Oo loo roo), which was the original name given by the local Yankunytjatjara and Pitjantjatjara people, who still own Uluru to this day.

Probably a Ceriatone Centura. It's a high end Klon clone with an option for purple finish.

Does anyone know if they were doing something wrong with the different color drives on the Golden by?
It's hard to imagine what you can do wrong with an overdrive pedal, but I definitely get very different sounds from the modes of my Golden Boy. The difference is really stark between green and blue/magenta, and in their demo they were very similar.

I own this pedal. The thing I don't like is a constant continuous background noise when it's turned on. Particularly when I use it with a tube saturation amp. Something that doesn't happen to me with other boost pedals that are much less famous and cheaper than this one. Honestly, I'm amazed by this thing. I'm sorry for my english

I watched the segeborn video on ''playing through £100 Vox Pathfinder''. Then I came here. Three grand's worth of amp and pedals - and it sounded shit by comparison. I don' t know if Andertons can't record gear very well, or whether they promote duff gear?

For gear demonstrations, it would be great if you used a guitar player with a minimum of touch and musicality.
Limiting is what tube amps do all of the time. What the heck are you on -never seen limiter for guitar?
I owned the Golden Boy for a few days. I had the same thought - all the drives sounded very similar. They sound good, but not very different.
Honestly, I returned it because I could see struggling at a gig with what drive style, how much gain is actually on since there’s no indication besides the brightness of the light, etc. That and the boost takes a second to kick in too.
Sorry, too complicated and not for me.
