We talk about the past 10 years of NCAA Wrestling by the numbers and how one team has DOMINATED the rest of the field.
Hint hint, it's Penn State. They need to be STOPPED!!

Lets begin by acknowledging that I am a PSU alumnus. But, factually wrestling, as a minor sport, has almost always had dynasties. Certainly Oklahoma State and Iowa had longer reigns than Cael and company have thus far accumulated. There is an argument to be made that having such dominant teams actually enhances interest in a sport. We can sight other examples like Alabama in football, Connecticut in women's basketball, Penn State in women's volleyball (2008-2011), and UCLA in men's basketball.
At some point all dynasties reach a natural end and this one will too. In the meantime, I, along with many alumni, am enjoying the ride!

Agreed 100% - Cael and Penn State deserve everything they have. It comes down to the coach (and assistants) to recruit, train, assemple, and get their wrestlers ready to compete at such a high level in big matches in the NCAA tournament. The last couple years, I saw so many Penn State wrestlers win championships in extremely close matches - they just had the extra gear at the end when the title would be decided last period, last minute.

I agree. It’s fun for casual fans like myself to enjoy greatness and for other schools they have a villain to hate and want to beat. I relate it to my hometown team that was great and everyone hated in the New England Patriots. We had twenty years of greatness and played in the SuperBowl half of those twenty years.

Penn State should be praised for raising the bar for success in NCAA wrestling. By doing so, they also uplift the schools under them, who learn from their state-of-the-art methods and seek to emulate them.

Cael Sanderson and his Staff made Penn State Wrestling is now National Powerhouse year and year since they came to Penn State. They are in Center Mecca of Pennsylvania Wrestling. I been following this team alot more and more since 2009. They recruit Top Recruits who want to be National Champs,World and Olympics Champions. I am enjoying the what they are doing with Penn State Don't Hate because they have a World Class coaching staff and NLWC wrestlers that world World Medalists too

I grew up in Iowa. My dad was a two-time NCAA Champion at 177 Iowa State in 1965 and 1966. Yea, I grew up in Ames Iowa, Cael hailed from Iowa State as well (undisputed 4 time NCAA Champion). The first from Iowa State (IS) ever. IS could have had a 4-timer at 177 pounds 18 years before when Chuck Jean (from Albert Lea HS, MN) won as a Freshman and Sophmore, but he got into too much trouble (big time trouble without details) and the IS regents expelled him. He went on to Alamosa State (CO) and won two NCAA titles as a Junior and Senior but I believe they called that Division II (not Division I).
But the Bottom Line is nobody has the right to take anything away from what Cael has done on the wrestling mat and as a Head Coach. Iowa State let him slip away to Penn State. I remember my Dad being so pissed that Iowa State let him go. Iowa State's D1 program dropped off big time.
I look at Dan Gable, John Smith, and Cael Sanderson as the true icons of this sport who knocked it out of the park, on the mat, as individuals, TRUE STUDS, who translated their energy in to coaching top DIV 1 wrestling teams and excelling equally in those roles (NCAA Team Titles). I like the Brand's Brothers at Iowa a lot too.

I would also like to see Oklahoma State rebound from recent down years because I like John Smith a lot (not sure what's going on in Stillwater). When my dad won his two NCAA titles at 177 with Iowa State, 1965 and 1966, he had to beat a guy from Oklahoma State in the finals both times (Bill Harlow 65, Fred Fozzard 66). Myron Roderick was your coach and Oklahoma State was the premier D1 college wrestling program at that time.

I appreciate what Alirez did at N.Colorado and how that is a non traditional power but that really highlights the champs from very small schools like Edinboro and Lock Haven who have crap facilities, no budgets and only have about 5.5 scholarships.

Whatever that secret sauce is that Cael has as a coach, its really amazing. His wrestlers seem to be artists in a way that generally beats the "Grind" school of wrestling that all we Gen-Xers idolized in Gable's Iowa success, and all of the other elite programs appear to follow to this day. There's something more loose and creative about his teams, consistently. Fun to watch but frustrating for all opponents.

If Cael isn't there it doesn't happen. Its not Penn State is Cael Sanderson. Penn State pays the best coach available to show up and coach. The kids want to win. Why would you deny a kid the opportunity to wrestle at top level. Its time for other coaches to step up and develop kids to that level.

I don’t get the premise of this video. Why must PSU be stopped? I notice that you never mentioned that 4 wrestlers who transferred into the program did so for academic reasons. If you get hooked into going to Ohio State or other diploma mills, you can’t get the major that will help you in life. On the other side, top wrestlers in NY would love to go to Cornell, but they can’t get in.

I'd like to see more equity in the recruitment, but of course that could never happen. I've got to hand it to Cael, though. He takes great wrestlers and makes them even better. And it seems like a classy program.

Wrestlers are unique. By and large they are not in it for any money, they are in it to excel. Why don’t you guys stop crying about the poor teams and look at it from the wrestlers point of view. Do a review of what programs best prepare wrestlers to accomplish their goals both on the mat and in the classroom. Look at the Olympics and various world and national championships. What programs produce those champions. Look at school grades/graduation percentages. Hats off to Cael and his program for a program that produces successful young men accomplishing their goals in life.

You guys must have a lot if time on your hands. Wrestling has been very big in the PA, NJ, NY area for a long. long time. You need to look at the numbers of high school wrestlers from these states on the top 10 or 20 college team roosters. Penn State has placed it's self in a position where it picks wrestlers more than it recruits................too bad that people have to put a target on PSU rather than applaud the level of excellence it has achieved through a lot of hard work. I recall the time when Okla Sate, Okla U, Iowa, Iowa State ruled the roost.............so now PSU is getting a turn and it is not only helping college wrestling it is helping our national teams as well..................Guys, get over it.
