My theory is that the Drifter has been grooming us for a war against the Taken. The motes in Gambit are his way of teaching us to value our lives, to not just throw ourselves in to suicidal situations just because our Ghosts will revive us. Gambit invasions are teaching us that soon we will fight a war of Guardian vs Guardian, with the winner being the one who is comfortable in both the Light AND the Dark. The Vanguard have proven that they aren't ready for this scale of war, for example when Ghaul nearly decimated us. A bit of a further reach is my idea that the Drifter is hauling a dead/dying traveler, to show us that all the essence when we die is stored in Traveller(s) and this energy becomes a part of the Taken army. Much of this is speculation but I'm excited to see where this story goes.
The Reckoning game mode is evidence to the contrary of your last statement. He's actually carrying a throne world that has huge influence from The Nine. I don't really know much more beyond that tho but I imagine it's purpose will become clear in time.
Z historically it doesn’t seem to end well for people who dabble with the dark. But I guess I’m damned then cause at this point it doesn’t look like I can trust the vanguard to get the job done. *sigh* guess we’ll play the devil so others can walk into heaven.

I agree with your first three paragraphs, and kinda blew my mind. But the last part could still be possible because the nine gave drifter the thing but what if it was another travel that the nine found dead and used its dying light and dark for there own purpose

As a warlock main I felt conflicted. I have respect for the Praxic Order, as well as Ikora. However recent events have left me questioning what's truly best. Hell even Shin Malphur said that maybe Drifter's Gambit might be the next step forward. Same time I'm not sure if I can trust Drifter, not 100% anyway. His game is high risk high reward and I dont know if it's worth the risk. But what got to me... was my Warlock's curiosity about the unknown. What is the Drifter's game? His connection with the Nine? Can we actually use the Darkness as a weapon to wield? Maybe my Warlock has dived into Ascendent Realms too many times... hell all the way back in the days of Oryx I couldn't tell how many times I've stared into that abyss. However an opportunity has arrived to hear a different opinion, a different outlook on the world and what the darkness and light is to other people. Sure I could investigate with the Praxic Order, but I feel I'd get more answers if I earned Drifter's trust... maybe there will come a day where I regret my choice to side with Drifter... but this is a gamble I want to try. A gamble to try to understand the dark powers out there, and use that knowledge for everyone's benefit. However, as I stare at my Ace of Spades, I hope I'm making the right choice. I hope this gamble pays off... I hope you understand, Cayde. I think you do... and forgive me if this all goes south. Just like you did, I'm making a bet. Let's see if it pays off
That’s beautiful man and my thoughts exactly See, I chose hunter even back when the first trailers game out for Destiny 1... I knew deep down I was a hunter. I felt it before I even played the beta. I felt such a brotherly connection to Cayde. Not that we all didn’t but as a fellow hunter... Through his story as well as Shin Malphur and the hunters of the Iron Lords... I wanted to understand more about what it truly meant to be a hunter; a watcher, a scout, a ninja, and a marksmen. I wanted to learn so much more from Cayde and just like you said... I’m gonna take a bet on this. Thank you. Between this video and your comment confirming what I was already thinking on for a while, I’ve made my decision. Cayde would have wanted us to find out more. Hell, he said that part of Gambit was his idea. I’m sure he was scouting the info himself just like he apparently had his fingers in a lot of things before he died based on his tapes in the Ace of Spades quest. Now’s the time as a Hunter Scout, a Warlock Scholar, and a Titan Protector to... face the sides and find our own truth; not just for Cayde but for humanity and all sentient life.
Cayde's death was the first step in my titan's journey down a darker path. It was also when she realized that even heroes like Cayde can have a dark past or tread down dark roads. When she sought vengeance, she learned that for all her brilliant light, darkness still dwelled in her heart. Her interactions with the queen, and the awoken of the reef reminded her that Awoken live in between two worlds, light and dark, and the queen reminded her of what the exo stranger had said, that a side should always be chosen, even if it's the wrong one. If you had told my titan she'd side with the drifter over the vanguard, she'd probably have told you that you were crazy. But now, she sees the value of wielding the darkness in service of the light. Her ultimate loyalty is to the people of the city, and she knows that she can still be on the side of light, even when she's deep in the shadows. For her, walking the razors edge, of sticking true to her awoken heritage, she can bring to bear the forces of light and darkness to protect the city and her people.Alternatively, I think my warlock would stick with the vanguard. If she knows my titan, she'd probably resolve to keep an eye on my titan, to subject her to praxic fire should she ever stray from the razors edge. She's totally a praxic warlock.
EffervescentPhantasm I like that a lot and even though I heard both sides of the story... Something deep inside me just doesn’t trust Aunor. Something feels off, like a dictator’s military or abusive, controlling parents I understand her anger and fear of the drifter but at the same time I feel as though he’s preparing us for something just like the Cabal Emperor is. I totally agree. When it came up I wish I could say "as long as you dont pose a threat to humanity were cool", but no. Since I happen to trust the vanguard a bit more than the drifter I get called a snitch whether I do the quest or not.
I've just finished the allegiance quest siding with the Drifter, and during his tapes I learnt that Aunor levelled an entire city block, killing people still inside to "rescue a hostage". This post was made by Drifter gang

Drifter is a little to shady, vanguard are a little too big, and can’t seem to mobilize anything larger then a ground assault. Not letting guardians be in their element of defeating larger foes. Cayde was the balance, he is the role model for my characters. Real, down-to earth human with streaks of rebellion/independence and of heroism in his actions. The line is too fine, I would join the awoken if I could, they seem to have it right, but for now, I don’t know...
@@arsenalad2156 Because there is questionable on how Dead Orbit didn't notice the Red Legion coming through on top of the City's Defense sensor screen/whatnot being blocked by the Psions of the Cabal...While Future War Cult predicted the Cabal coming, no one listened. While Red Monarchy wants to place a Dictator to replace the Speaker(who is basically a defacto Dictator anyway) and would turn a blind eye at chance of some upset to take over, but not to the point of putting humanity on the line. Dead Orbit literally wants to run away and kept their mouth shut when the Red Legion was coming, therefor willing to let the city fall. They keep technology/whatnot found hidden (like the Cocytus station that the Awoken took over that Dead Orbit kept secret from the Tower had went insane and abandoned. It is hinted this is how Crota got into the system through the Golden Age Portal tech that was on said station during the collapse. Said station gateways ended up becoming taken over by the Nine after Crota was defeated/killed)
What if all the Guardians that died in Gambit Prime so far were intentionally killed by the Drifter because he knew they were Dredgens (Actual Dredgens, like the Shadows of Yor) that took the bait? Particularly the first group that was with Joxer, which explains why Drifter told Joxer not to know their names (which would have Dredgen in it). I thought it was weird how the the Drifter told Joxer not to learn their names.
I took it as the Drifter knew they would die and didn't want him to get attached because the names would haunt the Titan. I don't think any of those guardians saw each others' faces

That would make so much sense, after all it would be too obvious to just make the drifter a “bad guy”, these is so much more interesting, it could open up the possibility that the Drifter is actually Shin, and potentially coming to us as his alter ego Dredgen Vale, hence how he knew they were dredgen and how he got them to come to Gambit Prime.
Could be, but having the title dredgen does not mean they have succumbed to the darkness, only that they are proficient in Gambit. Doesn't mean they are part of the dredgens of yor.

Good lore doesn't make up for the shit bungie pulled off at the launch of the game, resulting in a small player base. Also not many people may like gambit, since that is what this conrent drop is all about.

Perhaps this is a bit of a stretch, but as I've been reading the comments, a certain quote came to mind; "A side must always be chosen... even if it's the wrong side." Queen Mara quoted those words of the Exo Stranger, and as we know, Mara has historically had a decent foresight of events yet to come. For this reason, I believe that the Queen purposefully chose those words, and that the quote was used as a hint that we as the general guardian community are approaching our first REAL "grey area" when it comes to morality. After all, most of our choices up to this point have been made in a black and white, good vs evil environment. Choosing the Drifter or the Vanguard is not one of those black and white areas. The Vanguard's general desire to "play it safe" when it comes to resolving conflict often restricts their ability to make tide-turning decision/actions. What turning points we HAVE had have usually been the result of influences from outside the Vanguard itself, not within (Osiris and the Infinite Forest, Eris and her knowledge of the Hive, Ana and Rasputin, the list goes on). The Drifter on the other hand is the polar opposite; his approach is a FAR riskier one, but with great risk typically comes the possibility of a great reward... or in this case, a turning point brought on by the knowledge gained by such risk when it bears fruit. When you think about it, the Drifter has the potential to be one of those "outside forces" that I mentioned earlier who COULD provide tide-turning information. No matter what side we choose though, we must keep one thing in common... "A side must always be chosen, even if it's the wrong side." Sometimes, the potential reward is worth the risk. That being said, we've seen what such a risk can also do to an individual in the process, and so it will ultimately come down to our moral tolerance for that reward. One thing's for sure; innocent blood must spill. It already has... and it won't be the last. That's what a war does.
Remember also the dying words from Cayde-6 "The Vanguard is best bet I've ever lost". I know the Vanguard is in some ways a bit flawed and overzealous, but that doesn't mean that they're not the good ones.
I ultimately chose to side with Drifter because I truly do believe the Light alone is not going to be enough to stop the Darkness. Perhaps retooling the Dark in our favor, using it against itself in combination with the Light will give us a chance to win. I know others have tried and failed to use the Dark in the past, but just because it hasn't worked yet doesn't mean it'll *never* work. While I don't entirely trust Drifter, and I will end him the moment he decides to turn on me, I still think he has valuable information that we need to understand. Unlike the Vanguard currently, Drifter has a plan, he knows things we don't, and he may have a missing piece of the puzzle we can all use. Know this, it isn't the first time we went outside Vanguard orthodoxy to get results: Eris and her knowledge of the Hive to defeat Crota and Oryx, Cayde helping us infiltrate the Dreadnought, Osiris and the Infinite Forest, and Ana Bray and Rasputin. There's also the fact that this allegiance is actually between the Drifter and the Praxic Order, the Vanguard we know is basically not involved. I don't fully trust Drifter but I also don't trust Aunor and the Praxic Order that much either. Just because I think understanding, studying and even using the Dark is necessary, that it isn't a simple black and white issue, I have several major disagreements with Drifter's philosophy which lead me to not completely trust him. Those being his critique of Ghosts, his belief that humanity is not worth saving and thus we should only focus on our own survival, and his final message that we should never have hope. Like I said, he definitely has a plan and he knows a bigger storm is on the horizon, but I'm siding with him to discover his ploy and use it to actually help the Vanguard and the City, and *maybe*, if I'm able and he doesn't betray us, convince Drifter to help in the fight and not just run. Sometimes good people have to some "bad" things to for the greater good. I will use any and all resources to save humanity, even if it means using the Darkness against itself, but I am still a bearer of the Light, I am still a protector and I sure as hell am still a Guardian.

Investigation is not corruption... There's no recording past when his ghost was shot. She was fact checking your report. In a world where people have lived hundreds of years the 5 or 6 we've spent are a blink of an eye. She's being cautious. don't be offended by that. Take it as a reason to prove your innocence and gain her trust. The fact she works with you after that lore entry proves she trusts you after her talk with ikora.

I’m honestly with Drifter. Reason being? Well, I think Beard Grizzly put it best. The Vanguards hubris and need to focus on their victories and overall zealous nature have essentially made them as bad as say the Dark or the Shadows of Yor. Drifter is ironically the best choice, since he’s not down with either side and prefers to as he puts it “willing to drift.”

My allegiance as a guardian is to whatever is best for The City and Humanity. And with the drifter wanting to just run and hide and leave the city to face the coming darkness alone, he isnt it.
Okay I normally don't go off into the weeds too much when I am rewatching your old videos like this, but, the Drifter had a glaive at some point and also used the name Fynch. If it was just one or the other I'd be a bit curious but wouldn't jump on it, this however has me thinking.
Cayde loved the Vanguard, so I'm with my man on this one. The Drifter is too dodgy in my opinion .. He couldn't even be honest about the motes of light? Yeah right boys, we knew they're darkness.
He sure loved the Vanguard, but definitly did not like the way Ikora or Zavala would handle things. He was after all the one that send us out to get some stealth tech that he hid somewhere on the Cosmodrome and then send us out to the Dreadnought, without letting Zavala know about it until we're already on the ship. Cayde loved his job, but he did things differently and I don't think he would like how the Vanguard is handling things as of now.

The vanguards a good choice too, but Zavala wanted us to not go after Uldren. If we didn't go after Uldren, we would never have found The Dreaming City and killed Riven. why is no one talking about Byf's great impression of the Drifter? It's not perfect, but I can hear enough of his gravely voice, charisma, inflections, etc. to hear a faint actual Drifter voice
I may be a Guardian who would be willing to use the Darkness to fight for the City, but with all the evidence we have thus far, I will not side with the Drifter. He does not care about how many Guardians die in Gambit, he is potentially in cahoots with the Nine - who I don't trust either - and has connections to the Shadows of Yor. I will stand with the City and the Vanguard, despite my reservations about them.
He is also aware of another great catastrophe that is coming for us. And is trying to run and hide, hoping to whether the coming storm and leave The City to die. That is why I am glad I chose the Vanguard. Im a guardian above all else. Even if it means dying my final death I will defend The Last City of Humanity.
But think of how many suicide missions the vanguard has sent you on. How many millions of lives you have lost saving their skin. I’m all about protecting the city, but maybe it’s time for a change

Doubt that very much..if Saint-14 was brought back it would be as himself not as another guardian. The saint/sinner is basically because our guardian has been going around righting the wrongs making us a saint..but is all the good things we do a cover for us doing bad shit

Thanks for doing all of these lore videos. I love getting into the lore and world building in any fantasy series, starting with reading the Lord of the Rings as a kid, and playing a seriously unhealthy amount of Morrowind. I used to spend hours in the Library of Vivec reading every book I could find. Now with a full time job and two kids, I don't have the time to spend hunting down lore fragments and piecing them all together with the new games I play. Your videos let me get all of the juicy background and deep explanations even though I don't have the time to find them all myself. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to these, and it makes Destiny so much more enjoyable. Thank you.

The drifter is a threat to the system and the traveler if I’m to be honest, I have no doubts in my mind that for the betterment of the city, he should be eliminated. However his knowledge is worth more than his corpse. And the vanguard have a severe design flaw in not only their leadership but their philosophy as well, given that they exiled toland who provided such immense knowledge about the hive and the darkness that only helped us in the fight against oryx and the taken. So I personally feel that no choice is wholly good but I feel the vanguard is probably the best.
I really love this quest because it makes you get invested in the story and characters when you feel like you’re actually setting up the story and getting involved

I’m a vanguard man. I’m a titan. I see nothing wrong with taking part in the Drifter’s gambit to seek better ways to protect the city. But I know where my loyalties lie. Not with a scheming shady conman, but with an honourable organisation of noble guardians sworn to protect the city. I’m not a traitor. I’m with the men in the white hats.

Neon Diddle i may understand the vanguard but to me the city dosent need politicians and they're to busy with their heads stuck up there ass and drifter well hes planning something he knows theres more to being a guardian,im not what youd call a bad guy but i theres a time when doing bad as the vanguard would say is the right thing,the praxic order is literally the Spanish inquisition and my fellow warlock aunor isnt so heroic either,destroying a city block to get one guy along with multiple civilian casualties shes obssessed with the S.O.Y and itll bring her down. @@tiger31486 I may have died to a Taken Captain (twice) with full motes, but at least I took out the entire enemy team during an invasion (though that was only for the Malfeasance quest, normally I would only invade if they have the Primeval summoned and we don't). That's gotta count for something, right?

A year later, after everyone has chosen their sides. My Titan decided that Aunor has no right to blame him for Cayde's death. She shouldn't have brought it up. The vanguard is untrustworthy, as they will not stand up against something that threatens the galaxy, like Uldren Sov and his plans. The Drifter is the one he can trust most in his eyes. My Warlock has chosen the Vanguard. Yes, while Aunor was in the wrong, she didn't know what happened. All she saw was an angrily written report on Cayde's death from my Titan. Nothing more, until Ikora gave her info. And besides, Aunor is her one last ally past her own Fireteam. Ikora and Zavala will know what's best. My Hunter has decided to run, be free from the rules, and not follow either side. Though now his fireteam looks for him. Though, since he does not follow the traditional rules of a guardian, he's decided to pick up three exotic weapons to wield at once. Ace of Spades, Polaris Lance, and Thunderlord, and has been on his own since.
Echo at least around your time My hunter, she’s alone, isolated, aurnor had no right to suspect her like that, leading to her building and building hate towards others, drifter is a role model for her now, due to cayde being gone. She cares only for her ghost, the fallen, and the moon. She wants to take the place of taken king, and become the taken queen to help everybody. She wants to help and make friends again, she does, but she feel isolated, like everybody hates her, so she just talks to her ghost and mithrax.
Same as me, though for different reasons. My warlock dislikes being blamed for Cayde's death, but he still partially does blame himself. Not to mention, disliking someone's initial thoughts of you are no reason to tempt the same darkness he saw on the Dreadnought all those years ago. He is the most experienced of my Guardians and refuses to allow darkness to seep into the Light. He acknowledges that lines must be pushed, but never broken, and anyone who steps over it will meet the business end of Thunderlord and his Chaos Reach. My titan however, seeks more power. He knows that the Light is not omnipotent and the Traveler is no god, so all a Guardian can count on is his own might. He reached out to the Drifter, against his fireteam leader's(my warlock) advice. Now he hunts the darkness wherever it may be, channeling the powers the Drifter has shown him, reaching out to the Nine, and holding his Borealis and Flaming Maul ready to shatter every barrier. My hunter as well has yet to choose a side, not believing in the rigid nature of the Vanguard or the danger of the Drifter. She knows this alienates her from her fireteam, who both oppose the other, but she now acts as the voice of reason between them to keep them together. It also helps that she could slice and dice them with her Spectral Blades or Tommy's Matchbook if she had to.
Picked Ole Driff with the quickness, no questions asked. My initial interest in destiny was its dark lore. The rainbows and sunshine, oh happy day vibes, you can find in any story based game. I prefer the dark, and to learn more than people choose to let you know.
The drifter has relations to the nine specifically the “good nine” the 5 that want to use the light for freedom, so he knows a greater evil that no one else does. And like he said the only to defeat darkness is to learn how it works. You can only understand how defeat it if you know it inside and out

If you side with the drifter you get a story from him. Drifter had a run in with some shadows of yor down in the city. He was trying to talk to the shadows so nobody had to die, aunor came along and the shadows fled while taking hostages. Aunors responds?? Blow up an entire city block full of inocent people
The guy is looking to prepare for something similar to an extinction-level event that Drifter know is coming...or at least he think is coming (D3 plot, maybe?). But the fact that he only plan on saving his "friends" and leave the rest of humanity to face the coming threat is...well, it doesn't sit right with me. While it's a good revelation that Drifter is not an immediate threat and isn't currently up to no good, he is still planning something, and that "something" is still not completely known outside Drifter himself. My main Warlock went VG, and while I agreed with Drifter that Aunor is too trigger-happy for her own good and bit too narrow-minded, I still can't get that idea that Drifter really doesn't have the best of humanity in mind out of my head. And who's to say Drifter's not corrupted already? A corrupted man knows not that he is one...Yor knew only because his Ghost told him.
I chose the Drifter because Zavala refused to step in and back me up when I went to avenge Cayde, the Vanguard let me down. Even though Ikora did give me her support, she wasn't officially following Vanguard protocols at that time, so I'm sure Ikora will also be fine with us joining the Drifter this time. We went rogue once, we can do it again. #teamdrifter
Still don’t regret my decision to stand with the Vanguard. The people of Earth are scared enough as it is without a beacon of hope standing at odds with a group that has led the Last City for decades. Zavala doesn’t have the best drive, Ikora is doing her best with what she’s got, and the Hunters are torn between “terrified of commitment” and “please somebody sit in the chair,” but the Drifter is killing our friends without remorse. I’ll play his game. I’ll even be on relatively good terms with him. But I’ll be damned if I’m not just as prepared to gun him down as I am to talk to him.
This video gives my guardian the insight I thought I had already confirmed about the drifter...a devil in disguise pretending to be neutral as part of his ploy. How foolish I've been, as well as my whole clan basically following the Destiny equivalent of Charles Manson lol. Vanguard for sure. I don’t trust the vanguard to do its job and I’m hoping down the line to make another choice on sticking with the drifter or not because at this point the vanguard seems pretty incompetent and the order seems like a bunch of peons.

Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.

I can't wait until you dive into the lore bits we were getting in our postmasters leading up to this week. I honestly can't wait to take my characters into the split story. I know it can't split too far due to how Destiny is structured but you never know what they have up their sleeves at Bungie.

Yes. but is he at fault? No. They agreed to the dangers and couldnt make it out. As in they placed their wager and lost, high risk high reward. My theory is that the Drifter has been grooming us for a war against the Taken. The motes in Gambit are his way of teaching us to value our lives, to not just throw ourselves in to suicidal situations just because our Ghosts will revive us.
Gambit invasions are teaching us that soon we will fight a war of Guardian vs Guardian, with the winner being the one who is comfortable in both the Light AND the Dark.
The Vanguard have proven that they aren't ready for this scale of war, for example when Ghaul nearly decimated us.
A bit of a further reach is my idea that the Drifter is hauling a dead/dying traveler, to show us that all the essence when we die is stored in Traveller(s) and this energy becomes a part of the Taken army.
Much of this is speculation but I'm excited to see where this story goes.
The Reckoning game mode is evidence to the contrary of your last statement. He's actually carrying a throne world that has huge influence from The Nine. I don't really know much more beyond that tho but I imagine it's purpose will become clear in time.

As a warlock main I felt conflicted. I have respect for the Praxic Order, as well as Ikora. However recent events have left me questioning what's truly best. Hell even Shin Malphur said that maybe Drifter's Gambit might be the next step forward. Same time I'm not sure if I can trust Drifter, not 100% anyway. His game is high risk high reward and I dont know if it's worth the risk. But what got to me... was my Warlock's curiosity about the unknown. What is the Drifter's game? His connection with the Nine? Can we actually use the Darkness as a weapon to wield? Maybe my Warlock has dived into Ascendent Realms too many times... hell all the way back in the days of Oryx I couldn't tell how many times I've stared into that abyss. However an opportunity has arrived to hear a different opinion, a different outlook on the world and what the darkness and light is to other people. Sure I could investigate with the Praxic Order, but I feel I'd get more answers if I earned Drifter's trust... maybe there will come a day where I regret my choice to side with Drifter... but this is a gamble I want to try. A gamble to try to understand the dark powers out there, and use that knowledge for everyone's benefit. However, as I stare at my Ace of Spades, I hope I'm making the right choice. I hope this gamble pays off... I hope you understand, Cayde. I think you do... and forgive me if this all goes south. Just like you did, I'm making a bet. Let's see if it pays off

See, I chose hunter even back when the first trailers game out for Destiny 1... I knew deep down I was a hunter. I felt it before I even played the beta. I felt such a brotherly connection to Cayde. Not that we all didn’t but as a fellow hunter... Through his story as well as Shin Malphur and the hunters of the Iron Lords... I wanted to understand more about what it truly meant to be a hunter; a watcher, a scout, a ninja, and a marksmen. I wanted to learn so much more from Cayde and just like you said... I’m gonna take a bet on this. Thank you. Between this video and your comment confirming what I was already thinking on for a while, I’ve made my decision. Cayde would have wanted us to find out more. Hell, he said that part of Gambit was his idea. I’m sure he was scouting the info himself just like he apparently had his fingers in a lot of things before he died based on his tapes in the Ace of Spades quest. Now’s the time as a Hunter Scout, a Warlock Scholar, and a Titan Protector to... face the sides and find our own truth; not just for Cayde but for humanity and all sentient life.
Cayde's death was the first step in my titan's journey down a darker path. It was also when she realized that even heroes like Cayde can have a dark past or tread down dark roads. When she sought vengeance, she learned that for all her brilliant light, darkness still dwelled in her heart. Her interactions with the queen, and the awoken of the reef reminded her that Awoken live in between two worlds, light and dark, and the queen reminded her of what the exo stranger had said, that a side should always be chosen, even if it's the wrong one.
If you had told my titan she'd side with the drifter over the vanguard, she'd probably have told you that you were crazy. But now, she sees the value of wielding the darkness in service of the light. Her ultimate loyalty is to the people of the city, and she knows that she can still be on the side of light, even when she's deep in the shadows. For her, walking the razors edge, of sticking true to her awoken heritage, she can bring to bear the forces of light and darkness to protect the city and her people.Alternatively, I think my warlock would stick with the vanguard. If she knows my titan, she'd probably resolve to keep an eye on my titan, to subject her to praxic fire should she ever stray from the razors edge. She's totally a praxic warlock.

Drifter is a little to shady, vanguard are a little too big, and can’t seem to mobilize anything larger then a ground assault. Not letting guardians be in their element of defeating larger foes. Cayde was the balance, he is the role model for my characters. Real, down-to earth human with streaks of rebellion/independence and of heroism in his actions. The line is too fine, I would join the awoken if I could, they seem to have it right, but for now, I don’t know...

@@arsenalad2156 Because there is questionable on how Dead Orbit didn't notice the Red Legion coming through on top of the City's Defense sensor screen/whatnot being blocked by the Psions of the Cabal...While Future War Cult predicted the Cabal coming, no one listened. While Red Monarchy wants to place a Dictator to replace the Speaker(who is basically a defacto Dictator anyway) and would turn a blind eye at chance of some upset to take over, but not to the point of putting humanity on the line. Dead Orbit literally wants to run away and kept their mouth shut when the Red Legion was coming, therefor willing to let the city fall. They keep technology/whatnot found hidden (like the Cocytus station that the Awoken took over that Dead Orbit kept secret from the Tower had went insane and abandoned. It is hinted this is how Crota got into the system through the Golden Age Portal tech that was on said station during the collapse. Said station gateways ended up becoming taken over by the Nine after Crota was defeated/killed)

What if all the Guardians that died in Gambit Prime so far were intentionally killed by the Drifter because he knew they were Dredgens (Actual Dredgens, like the Shadows of Yor) that took the bait? Particularly the first group that was with Joxer, which explains why Drifter told Joxer not to know their names (which would have Dredgen in it). I thought it was weird how the the Drifter told Joxer not to learn their names.

That would make so much sense, after all it would be too obvious to just make the drifter a “bad guy”, these is so much more interesting, it could open up the possibility that the Drifter is actually Shin, and potentially coming to us as his alter ego Dredgen Vale, hence how he knew they were dredgen and how he got them to come to Gambit Prime.
Could be, but having the title dredgen does not mean they have succumbed to the darkness, only that they are proficient in Gambit. Doesn't mean they are part of the dredgens of yor.

Good lore doesn't make up for the shit bungie pulled off at the launch of the game, resulting in a small player base. Also not many people may like gambit, since that is what this conrent drop is all about.
meanwhile if you paid attention or cared at all youd realize it wasnt bungies fault at all, activision is to blame for what happened at launch, do the research before saying something like that otherwise you shit on a game that really doesnt deserve to be shit on at all.
Perhaps this is a bit of a stretch, but as I've been reading the comments, a certain quote came to mind; "A side must always be chosen... even if it's the wrong side." Queen Mara quoted those words of the Exo Stranger, and as we know, Mara has historically had a decent foresight of events yet to come. For this reason, I believe that the Queen purposefully chose those words, and that the quote was used as a hint that we as the general guardian community are approaching our first REAL "grey area" when it comes to morality. After all, most of our choices up to this point have been made in a black and white, good vs evil environment.
Choosing the Drifter or the Vanguard is not one of those black and white areas. The Vanguard's general desire to "play it safe" when it comes to resolving conflict often restricts their ability to make tide-turning decision/actions. What turning points we HAVE had have usually been the result of influences from outside the Vanguard itself, not within (Osiris and the Infinite Forest, Eris and her knowledge of the Hive, Ana and Rasputin, the list goes on). The Drifter on the other hand is the polar opposite; his approach is a FAR riskier one, but with great risk typically comes the possibility of a great reward... or in this case, a turning point brought on by the knowledge gained by such risk when it bears fruit. When you think about it, the Drifter has the potential to be one of those "outside forces" that I mentioned earlier who COULD provide tide-turning information.
No matter what side we choose though, we must keep one thing in common... "A side must always be chosen, even if it's the wrong side." Sometimes, the potential reward is worth the risk. That being said, we've seen what such a risk can also do to an individual in the process, and so it will ultimately come down to our moral tolerance for that reward. One thing's for sure; innocent blood must spill. It already has... and it won't be the last. That's what a war does.

Remember also the dying words from Cayde-6 "The Vanguard is best bet I've ever lost". I know the Vanguard is in some ways a bit flawed and overzealous, but that doesn't mean that they're not the good ones.
And whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars...
i liked ur little Drifter voice, thanks for putting that effort in, its the things like that that separate you from the rest.
I ultimately chose to side with Drifter because I truly do believe the Light alone is not going to be enough to stop the Darkness. Perhaps retooling the Dark in our favor, using it against itself in combination with the Light will give us a chance to win. I know others have tried and failed to use the Dark in the past, but just because it hasn't worked yet doesn't mean it'll *never* work.
While I don't entirely trust Drifter, and I will end him the moment he decides to turn on me, I still think he has valuable information that we need to understand. Unlike the Vanguard currently, Drifter has a plan, he knows things we don't, and he may have a missing piece of the puzzle we can all use. Know this, it isn't the first time we went outside Vanguard orthodoxy to get results: Eris and her knowledge of the Hive to defeat Crota and Oryx, Cayde helping us infiltrate the Dreadnought, Osiris and the Infinite Forest, and Ana Bray and Rasputin. There's also the fact that this allegiance is actually between the Drifter and the Praxic Order, the Vanguard we know is basically not involved. I don't fully trust Drifter but I also don't trust Aunor and the Praxic Order that much either.
Just because I think understanding, studying and even using the Dark is necessary, that it isn't a simple black and white issue, I have several major disagreements with Drifter's philosophy which lead me to not completely trust him. Those being his critique of Ghosts, his belief that humanity is not worth saving and thus we should only focus on our own survival, and his final message that we should never have hope. Like I said, he definitely has a plan and he knows a bigger storm is on the horizon, but I'm siding with him to discover his ploy and use it to actually help the Vanguard and the City, and *maybe*, if I'm able and he doesn't betray us, convince Drifter to help in the fight and not just run.
Sometimes good people have to some "bad" things to for the greater good. I will use any and all resources to save humanity, even if it means using the Darkness against itself, but I am still a bearer of the Light, I am still a protector and I sure as hell am still a Guardian.

This all reeks of her having had a personal connection to Cayde and wanting someone to blame and/or lash out at. Her accusation of our Guardian was the nail in the coffin of my Hunter throwing in with Drifter.
Something to maybe keep in mind was that the The Hive weapon master was hiding out in the Tangled shore same place where the barons ruled.

I’m honestly with Drifter. Reason being? Well, I think Beard Grizzly put it best. The Vanguards hubris and need to focus on their victories and overall zealous nature have essentially made them as bad as say the Dark or the Shadows of Yor. Drifter is ironically the best choice, since he’s not down with either side and prefers to as he puts it “willing to drift.”
But the drifter helped kill cayde.

My allegiance as a guardian is to whatever is best for The City and Humanity. And with the drifter wanting to just run and hide and leave the city to face the coming darkness alone, he isnt it.

Okay I normally don't go off into the weeds too much when I am rewatching your old videos like this, but, the Drifter had a glaive at some point and also used the name Fynch. If it was just one or the other I'd be a bit curious but wouldn't jump on it, this however has me thinking.
Cayde loved the Vanguard, so I'm with my man on this one. The Drifter is too dodgy in my opinion .. He couldn't even be honest about the motes of light? Yeah right boys, we knew they're darkness.

He sure loved the Vanguard, but definitly did not like the way Ikora or Zavala would handle things. He was after all the one that send us out to get some stealth tech that he hid somewhere on the Cosmodrome and then send us out to the Dreadnought, without letting Zavala know about it until we're already on the ship. Cayde loved his job, but he did things differently and I don't think he would like how the Vanguard is handling things as of now.

I may be a Guardian who would be willing to use the Darkness to fight for the City, but with all the evidence we have thus far, I will not side with the Drifter. He does not care about how many Guardians die in Gambit, he is potentially in cahoots with the Nine - who I don't trust either - and has connections to the Shadows of Yor. I will stand with the City and the Vanguard, despite my reservations about them.

Thanks for doing all of these lore videos. I love getting into the lore and world building in any fantasy series, starting with reading the Lord of the Rings as a kid, and playing a seriously unhealthy amount of Morrowind. I used to spend hours in the Library of Vivec reading every book I could find.
Now with a full time job and two kids, I don't have the time to spend hunting down lore fragments and piecing them all together with the new games I play. Your videos let me get all of the juicy background and deep explanations even though I don't have the time to find them all myself.
I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to these, and it makes Destiny so much more enjoyable. Thank you.

Love your lore videos man. I love Destiny but getting the lore narrated instead of having to read it all or look it up is awesome. I just put my ear buds in at the office and listen while I'm working
The drifter is a threat to the system and the traveler if I’m to be honest, I have no doubts in my mind that for the betterment of the city, he should be eliminated. However his knowledge is worth more than his corpse. And the vanguard have a severe design flaw in not only their leadership but their philosophy as well, given that they exiled toland who provided such immense knowledge about the hive and the darkness that only helped us in the fight against oryx and the taken. So I personally feel that no choice is wholly good but I feel the vanguard is probably the best.

@@tiger31486 I may have died to a Taken Captain (twice) with full motes, but at least I took out the entire enemy team during an invasion (though that was only for the Malfeasance quest, normally I would only invade if they have the Primeval summoned and we don't).

A year later, after everyone has chosen their sides.
My Titan decided that Aunor has no right to blame him for Cayde's death. She shouldn't have brought it up. The vanguard is untrustworthy, as they will not stand up against something that threatens the galaxy, like Uldren Sov and his plans. The Drifter is the one he can trust most in his eyes.
My Warlock has chosen the Vanguard. Yes, while Aunor was in the wrong, she didn't know what happened. All she saw was an angrily written report on Cayde's death from my Titan. Nothing more, until Ikora gave her info. And besides, Aunor is her one last ally past her own Fireteam. Ikora and Zavala will know what's best.
My Hunter has decided to run, be free from the rules, and not follow either side. Though now his fireteam looks for him. Though, since he does not follow the traditional rules of a guardian, he's decided to pick up three exotic weapons to wield at once. Ace of Spades, Polaris Lance, and Thunderlord, and has been on his own since.

My hunter, she’s alone, isolated, aurnor had no right to suspect her like that, leading to her building and building hate towards others, drifter is a role model for her now, due to cayde being gone. She cares only for her ghost, the fallen, and the moon. She wants to take the place of taken king, and become the taken queen to help everybody. She wants to help and make friends again, she does, but she feel isolated, like everybody hates her, so she just talks to her ghost and mithrax.
Same as me, though for different reasons.
My warlock dislikes being blamed for Cayde's death, but he still partially does blame himself. Not to mention, disliking someone's initial thoughts of you are no reason to tempt the same darkness he saw on the Dreadnought all those years ago. He is the most experienced of my Guardians and refuses to allow darkness to seep into the Light. He acknowledges that lines must be pushed, but never broken, and anyone who steps over it will meet the business end of Thunderlord and his Chaos Reach.
My titan however, seeks more power. He knows that the Light is not omnipotent and the Traveler is no god, so all a Guardian can count on is his own might. He reached out to the Drifter, against his fireteam leader's(my warlock) advice. Now he hunts the darkness wherever it may be, channeling the powers the Drifter has shown him, reaching out to the Nine, and holding his Borealis and Flaming Maul ready to shatter every barrier.
My hunter as well has yet to choose a side, not believing in the rigid nature of the Vanguard or the danger of the Drifter. She knows this alienates her from her fireteam, who both oppose the other, but she now acts as the voice of reason between them to keep them together. It also helps that she could slice and dice them with her Spectral Blades or Tommy's Matchbook if she had to.

Picked Ole Driff with the quickness, no questions asked. My initial interest in destiny was its dark lore. The rainbows and sunshine, oh happy day vibes, you can find in any story based game. I prefer the dark, and to learn more than people choose to let you know.

also also, I have a theory regarding Drifter's snooping on the Vanguard: he's faking. The man is manipulative. He's might be faking out the Vanguard, making them think he's just a weird dude with some weirder tech and an even weirder game for Guardians to play. Drifter had a run in with some shadows of yor down in the city. He was trying to talk to the shadows so nobody had to die, aunor came along and the shadows fled while taking hostages. Aunors responds?? Blow up an entire city block full of inocent people
The guy is looking to prepare for something similar to an extinction-level event that Drifter know is coming...or at least he think is coming (D3 plot, maybe?). But the fact that he only plan on saving his "friends" and leave the rest of humanity to face the coming threat is...well, it doesn't sit right with me. While it's a good revelation that Drifter is not an immediate threat and isn't currently up to no good, he is still planning something, and that "something" is still not completely known outside Drifter himself. My main Warlock went VG, and while I agreed with Drifter that Aunor is too trigger-happy for her own good and bit too narrow-minded, I still can't get that idea that Drifter really doesn't have the best of humanity in mind out of my head. And who's to say Drifter's not corrupted already? A corrupted man knows not that he is one...Yor knew only because his Ghost told him.

I chose the Drifter because Zavala refused to step in and back me up when I went to avenge Cayde, the Vanguard let me down. Even though Ikora did give me her support, she wasn't officially following Vanguard protocols at that time, so I'm sure Ikora will also be fine with us joining the Drifter this time. We went rogue once, we can do it again. #teamdrifter

Still don’t regret my decision to stand with the Vanguard. The people of Earth are scared enough as it is without a beacon of hope standing at odds with a group that has led the Last City for decades. Zavala doesn’t have the best drive, Ikora is doing her best with what she’s got, and the Hunters are torn between “terrified of commitment” and “please somebody sit in the chair,” but the Drifter is killing our friends without remorse. I’ll play his game. I’ll even be on relatively good terms with him. But I’ll be damned if I’m not just as prepared to gun him down as I am to talk to him.
This video gives my guardian the insight I thought I had already confirmed about the drifter...a devil in disguise pretending to be neutral as part of his ploy.

I don’t trust the vanguard to do its job and I’m hoping down the line to make another choice on sticking with the drifter or not because at this point the vanguard seems pretty incompetent and the order seems like a bunch of peons.

They have teached alot of wisdom and shown us that every fight or revenge isnt worth to take because of more lifes are at stake and told us to fight for a bigger cause not for our own cause. So i think thats some good they have done

Zavala wanted to retreat when he was losing the fight of the seven fronts which wouldve resulted in the death of thousands and last but not least they dont evem do annything about the shadows of yor inside the walls

Awesome video. I loved reading these stories as they came online and this reading them with your own additions and explanations is great. I can't wait until you dive into the lore bits we were getting in our postmasters leading up to this week. I honestly can't wait to take my characters into the split story. I know it can't split too far due to how Destiny is structured but you never know what they have up their sleeves at Bungie.

@@brya9681 i mean technically HE didnt kill them he just happened to supply the circumstances that allowed their death i.e. letting them play Gambit Prime. Does he carry some blame/liability? Yes. but is he at fault? No. They agreed to the dangers and couldnt make it out. As in they placed their wager and lost, high risk high reward.
That isnt to say that he shouldnt enact some more safeguards or something to prevent it but shit hapoens when you meddle with the Taken and the allies of The Darkness
