They're notoriously known for their dedication and crazy ski skills dating back to the sixties where it's a distinct honor to be selected to represent this patrol team. RIP Warren Miller. You made my childhood better from watching your movies inspiring people to become better skiers by watching the best and the craziest the sport has to offer. Not to mention the future ski film legends to follow, like 1980's Greg Stump who broke away from Warren Miller, and more to follow. Life of a ski bum back in the seventies for me was showing up at Ajax in Aspen and going early morning packing where you joined a few mountain employees at sunrise who directed you to areas under lifts and other hard to reach areas the ski machines could not pack and physically pack those areas using your skis to pack. It was the BEST skiing of the day before the lifts opened no one else on the mountain and you did this for a daily pass to ski rest of the day for free.
This is from Snowriders II which was released in 1997. Skiers will remember that helmets weren't really a thing until after Michael Kennedy and Sonny Bono both died in accidents in 1998 (I got my first helmet around then). The original also featured narration by Warren himself, and the last bit of tree skiing was perfectly set to Counting Crows: A Long December. These rehashed clips don't do the original any justice.

I skied for years with no helmet and never thought about it, hell I used to ride bikes, rock climb and many other sports and never gave it a thought. I wear one now but the truth is they only provide a small about of safety, if you are skiing fast and hit a tree its going bad. I love the old school skies as that's what I learned on. Now anyone can ski pow and make a turn.
They have a huge half pipe, tons of difficult terrain in the back bowls, and way more than 2 double black diamond runs with huge jumps, especially under lift lines. Vail is a giant resort and you need to know where to go

I'm glad I'm not the only one who misses the original music (and Warren's narration). I'm going to watch the DVD when I get home tonight.
