'roses' is a funeral piece dedicated to my friend’s mother who died from cancer. The ostinato, the repeating single note in the intro, represents her beating heart, and the ever-present tumour, sometimes forgotten but still growing. How do ill people find peace, if they can at all? "roses" is my attempt to reflect a journey of someone's musical memories, wandering from pop to classical remembrances, concluding on nostalgic harmony. - Jean-Michel Blais (01/25/18)

À propos de roses, Jean-Michel Blais dit « c‘est une pièce funéraire dédiée à la mère d’une amie qui est décédée d'un cancer. L’ostinato, la note répétée de l’intro symbolise le battement de son cœur ainsi que la tumeur inquiétante, parfois oubliée, mais toujours présente. Comment les gens malades trouvent-ils la paix, si jamais ils le peuvent? roses est ma tentative de refléter les souvenirs musicaux de quelqu'un, passant de la pop aux souvenirs classiques et se concluant sur l'harmonie nostalgique.

J’ai eu la chance de voir Jean-Michel Blais en concert à St. Jérome. J’ai eu la chance de lui parler afin de le remercier... de m’avoir aidé à retrouver ce renouement en moi. Donc merci Jean-Michel. Que de la douceur... ❤️
en tant que pianiste au conservatoire de val d'or (au Québec aussi) beaucoup de personne le déteste par sa technique , mais c'est le seul pianiste qui m'a aussi aider à me remonter , ses émotions transmise par ses pièces c'est juste incroyable. c'est honnetement selon moi LE meilleur pianiste moderne. surtout en live quand je suis aller le voir les larmes me montait , et ca m'etait jamais arriver au parravant! De lui parler aussi ca m'a fait de quoi
La beauté est multiforme. Parfois, elle passe par l'ouïe, puis elle trace des sillons et se taille une place en plein coeur... et éveille l'esprit.
Cette musique porte à la fois une puissance et une espérance...

I was fortunate enough to see JMB when he played in NYC last year, and to hear him introduce his songs. There is a very intellectual and introspective thread in his music and his inspiration, that weaves in with an uncannily clear and accessible sentiment, which he is simultaneously (and charmingly) self-aware and self-conscious of. To hear and watch him wring his hands over these revealing intros was to watch an artist agonize over bearing his soul and that of his music. We are lucky to have someone who can bridge the gap between the avant-garde, high art establishment and something so emotionally accessible. We are lucky to have someone who has the ability to be in both places at once, and who so obviously lives that struggle. It is a beautiful expression of a life less travelled, where the balance between monumental concepts and daily life is so difficult to maintain when so many people simply justify one way of being over the other. This all shows in the music, and it was an awe-inspiring and meaningful experience to find that JMB wasn't merely channeling this ability but generating it out of a very conscious and profound process. I hope many more people will get to experience this as he continues in his success.

I'm watching figure skating, an ISU Grand Prix and a Free Dance couple used this music. I googled it and here I am. The music is beautiful and exotic and was made even more so by the couple's gliding grace.
The couple on the ice right now is skating to Pink Floyd "Time."
You get to hear an eclectic mix of really good music and see top notch athleticism at these events. I dig it.

À toi qui passe par là, je te conseille la série québécoise "M'entends-tu?" On y entend cette magnifique pièce.
La scène finale de la série " M'entends-tu " n'aurait pas le même impact sans cette magnifique pièce! J'ai été très touchée par la combinaison des deux.

Or doesn't like this kind of music common now ahahah. Music is a subjective thing and a taste you can develop with time. Classic music is defnitely the most powerfull and versatile music when it comes to emotions. But it's also a sound you need time to get use to.

i dont know, to be honest , what you see that looks like this masterpiece and pyramid... its like totaly 2 different note for first and the sounds in backgrounds are not the same
