27 million soviet citizens died in World War II. Of these, 8,668,400 soldiers. Of these soldiers, 5,756,000 russians. Killed civilians in the zone of occupation - 13,684,700 Soviet citizens. Can you imagine at least 10 million dead? Germany lost 14 million, about half of them are soldiers. USA losses in World War II ~500 thousand. China - 16 million. Japan - 3 million. Can you imagine how enormous harm has been done to russian society? Can you imagine what it is when the most modern army of the planet attacks dozens of cities and simply erases many from the face of the earth, together with the inhabitants who did not manage to escape anywhere? Surprisingly, yes, why are many Russians sometimes so gloomy, distrustful or unsmiling? 70 years ago, 27 million were killed.
Посмотрите на бегущих в атаку матросов и задумайтесь: а каково это вот так вот вставать "в штыки" в атаку под градом пуль? Тоесть, понятное дело, что в мирное время солдаты и матросы обучаются этому на командно-штабных, полевых выходах, есть целый ряд занятий в обучающей программе...Но что должен чувствовать человек, как должен понимать себя и окружающих, поднимаясь в зачастую самоубийственную атаку, зная, что вполне возможно его смерть и смерть товарищей не изменит ничего, а он сам останется навсегда в сырой земле, никогда уже не увидит ни мать, ни отца, ни любимую, никого! И все равно, прекрасно понимая, что ему грозит, он поднимается и идёт в атаку когда За Родину, когда За Сталина, это не важно... Это достойно восхищения и вечной памяти. Слава!

Flying in misty ending of the day;
And in their line there is a small interval:
It may turn out to be my place someday!...

Well, as I see it, all the human beings are brothers and sisters. We are all part of the bigger life, in some way. And there are no "we" and "them". Only "we". One can never truely feel the whole loneliness on the Mankind.
If one day, all at once we drop the rifles, all at once we drop the promissory notes, all at once we drop the keys to the bulletproof shelters of property and look up to the skies we will be crushed by our universal loneliness.
And the real tragedy of our existance is that we have an opportunity to recognize it all, but no chance to change it.
In a way I've always felt the pain of another human. And I never cared what nationality he or she had.
I can judge that Rusul Gamzatov also felt the same way.
One can feel the other.
Whoever one is. If it's a Dagestani or a Russian or a Japanese, or if it's me - a very awerage Moscow teenager with flooded mind and broken heart.

As Lev Tolstoy has shown, the true heroism isn’t done by the symbolic and mythic warriors, it’s done by ordinary people. The example is Tushin’s battery from “War and peace”.
The act of heroism is a duty one has to do when a moment comes. Nature of the exploit is the unindifference. And it’s what you grant the people with, like when you sypathize to my poem.
By the way, there is another poem. It was written by Robert Rozhdestvensky. I’ve translated it for you:
On Earth, which is ruthlessly small,

Had a job, and the job was small,

Val Th: In USSR there was was another kind of "fairness", very different from today's Western "political correctness" and "affirmative action", which scratch only the surface of the problems, creating even more. Most of the population appreciated women, minorities, they were encouraged to go to schools by popular mentality rather than some affirmative policies very few really believed in, like what happens in the West with no much success. People of all kinds were encouraged to ascend to real cultural life, for example, the largest Gypsy cultural centre was (maybe still is) in Moscow, and not in Europe (were most Gypsies reside). Centre of real culture, not some irrelevant trendy anti-cultural fashions, like those encouraged today by the West. I don't want to say that everything cultural was OK, but it's simply amazing that the West didn't learn ANYTHING from USSR experience, it declared USSR as "evil", and that's it.

Дорогой друг @hyeparis, не надо отчаиваться, таких дебилов в России не большинство, просто буйные всегда на виду. Россия в полной мере, страна русских, дагестанцев, ингушей, якутов, и остальных народов, так как кровью наших отцов и дедов обильно полита эта земля и тяжелой ценой далась ее независимость.
