I’ve owned a 225 TT for 4 months now, it’s slowly getting work done to it. It’s taking some time too but it’s really fun to drive, it’s pretty dynamic. I’m not going big turbo with it as I feel I’d rather put that money to an s2000 or something that was built from the ground up as a performance car. Looks are subjective, I didn’t like them when they first came out but now it’s grown on me. It does keep you busy that’s for sure.

Coming from a mk1 tt owner, and a euro fanboy, they're both well worth it so long as they're well maintained and don't have anything unreasonably insane done to them. Also both are pretty reliable even with several mods. The tt is such a good bargain for the amount for performance you get with just a turboback exhaust and a stage 2 tune

The 1.8T has 20 valves, not 12, 2 intake 3 exhaust per cylinder. The VR6 came in a 12v but ultimately switched to a 24v design in the early 2000s.
I"d choose the R32 between the two however, despite MKIVs being known for rust, broken crack pipes, door panels that fall apart, etc... Luckily there are some great aftermarket parts available from places like ECS Tuning to fix some of the major coolant system issues.

The rust on golfs comes from the wheel arch liner trapping dirt and salt if you're up north into the corners of the rockers. If you undo the wheel arch liner which it's just a t20 torx spray it out once and in a while that will slow down the rust.

R32 for the win all the time. I had one for 13 years, Bought it for 29k, sold it 13 years and 88,000 miles later for 18K, still look, sounded and ran like new. VERY reliable car if you actually service it normally. Best sounding car for under 30k or even 50K. Grip in the R32 in all weather was insane, almost never lost grip. Also the R32 is WAY more rare. Only 5,000 were sold in North America, and that was only after we petitioned VW to send them, VW agreed but only if they could sell all 5,000 with $0 in advertising.... DONE. I even flew to Germany in 2003 and drove a DSG R32 on the autobahn right up tp 253KPH easy.... so nice. Came back and hounded my local dealer for the first one they could get. They got 2, Blue and Black, I took Blue. :) Only complaint was it ate California gas to the tune of $80 a fill up every week and half. Only sold it because I drove a Tesla... forget sound, instant speed is WAY more addicting :) R32 was my last gas car and oh what a car!

How do you get that flutter from 1.8t? DV delete? Never heard 1.8t that flutter like that.

mine fluttered like that when the DV had a hole in the diaphragm.... not good. makes the turbo work harder to hit same amount of boost

RIght? I also live in the states, but got mine (2004 225 quattro) for $6500, and it was in very good condition. Paid a little over 3000 on top for minor repairs and mods, so overall very reasonably priced. It's still bulletproof even with stage 2 tune and upgrades, so I don't know why Alex said $12000 for a nice one

I mean bring a trailer has r32's going for like 20k on the regular so there is definitely something special there for a car of that vintage.

Tell your homie in the r to clean the inner fenders by removing the liners ... helps.prevent the rust . From worsening ... btw... it's a mk4 problem very common for these to rust.

I do have one recommendation for owning these cars. Put a sticker next to the VIN and license plate that says "ALL WHEEL DRIVE - FLATBED TOWING ONLY" because someone will assume they are FWD and cause a disaster.
Do this to any car with AWD that may be assumed to be FWD. The Mitsubishi Evo is a good example of such a car.

The the golf for sure but the I own a 2.8 4motion mk4 and it relatively reliable and most mil error can be traced the the crappy coolant temp sensor which sisituated unter the inlet manifold, and ps yes my air con does work not that I need it much in the UK lol

lol about time someone beside me did some R32 content! I'd pick the R32 over the 1.8 TT. The TT as came in a VR6 which was basically a R32 just in a TT body. I have been making R32 content for a little and love doing it! also the R32 rust due to the design of the wheel welds. Rood grime would get stuck in the wheel welds and if they are not cleaned out they will build up and start to rust. I have seen so much junk in a wheel weld that a tree started to grow inside the wheel weld... pretty crazy. lastly prices of R32 are not $10k the car on screen yes probably a $8-$10K car but most R32 are selling for $15- $18K. I have a video on my Channel all you need to know about the R32 loads of information that could be helpful. Love the video tho, they are to great cars to compare.

@@jamieb3979 i chose the mk5 too. I had mk4 gti and wanted a different shape haha. Plus the mk5 is newer and has more features e.g auto light. Loving life, you think I've ever touch that switch since I've owned the car? haha
I'd like DAB and steering wheel multifunction (i know it has it mine just wasn't speced with it haha) kinda annoying using the touch screen
