Marshall, such a humane and humble man. The neighbourhood used to receive calls at his home as he was the first to have a landline. And his late wife baked the best scones ever. I know, I used to hang around his gate once I once I smelt a waft of the baking!
I saw them on a snowy night in Stroud, Gloucestershire and later in a sweaty club in Harare. Magical band. My Zimbabwean daughters used to dance to this. God rest Marshall's soul.
This reminds me of writing essays whilst John Peel's show plays in the background... fabulous, uplifting. I never had a clue what they were singing. Didn't matter to me... all about the vibe.
Once heard that for their first song they went to record but had no name for the band. In those they would listen to your song and then decide to record it or not. So when they were asked what the name of the band was they had none. Some suggested they call themselves The Four Brothers. Whatever the story is Marshal Munhumumwe is one of Zimbabwe’s finest. Always brings tears to my eyes. RIP our legend.
during 1990 i think few Zimbabweans were living in the united kingdom but African Jamaicans the issue of African people wishing to live in London was in the thoughts of many to try and live a nice life in London but at the end of the day life is just life.
