I just did the swap today. Busted out my Snap on impact and got everything done with in an hour. I didn’t remove calipers as they were exactly the same from my donor. My biggest issue was bending the brake lines. This swap seems so complicated but its fairly simple and easy!

Thanks man, I tried my best. It was a lot of work figuring out how it all worked, working off the forum guide. But now it all makes sense. Hopefully it does help you. Just know that I didn’t show how to replace e brake cables, so that’s something you would have to do if you have rear drums.

Yes, your coilover shocks won't work on the IRS since the bottom shock, where the bolt goes, is smaller than the IRS. IRS shocks have larger bolt opening on the bottom.
Hey, I didn’t realize that MK7 Jettas came with Torsion. VW at it again. Long story short, MQB cars should have the same parts/holes for everything to bolt up, but I’m not 100% sure since I haven’t done one on a MK7. Basically, yes if you get an IRS from a MK7 Chassis, preferably the GLI, but I’m not 100% and couldn’t find it online.
Yeah man. I’m a big fan of making sure things work like they’re supposed to. I could’ve have bought shock sleeves to run Coilovers, but I decided to go ahead and do the whole IRS swap. It also allows you to go lower as well! Also gonna come up with my AWE track exhaust vid soon.
Hey Sorry for the long wait. I had disc brakes originally, so brake lines were good to go for me. It seems like they are plug n play, may have to have the Soft lines that connect to the softlines.
It became a lot better instantly, especially in the rear end when one of the wheels would hit a bump. Instead of feeling my rear end go loose, now it just settles like any other car.
Front Coilovers are good to go. Rear springs are good to go, you'll just have to swap the shocks since the bottom of the bolt hole is bigger on IRS shocks than the stock shocks. Did you use an ECS shim kit for the bottom of the bolt hole?
If they’re specific to the rear torsion beam, then Yes. Reason why is that the Bottom Shock Eyelet is bigger in an IRS shock than the shocks on a torsion beam. Basically a bigger bolt at the bottom, so you’re rear shock’s bottom eyelet is too small for the bolt in the IRS. The bags should be fine, it’s just the Shocks that I’ve seen. Hope that makes sense Also, that’s only if the shocks don’t have a spacer bushing that fills in the gap. If it does, you may be able to pop it out to accommodate the larger bolt.

Sure man. I have a 2011 MK6 Jetta SEL. Main difference between our two, I have disc brakes in the back. As long as you get the IRS from a 2006-2018 Jetta or golf, (and a couple of Audi’s), it’ll bolt on.

@@whatsaninlinefive7009 sounds good, i appreciate the info. I just picked up my IRS and plan to swap it in soon. One more person in the IRS swap club 😂.
True. Honestly it should soften up the rear a bit since both wheels won’t be connect through a beam. But the main reason I went for it is to have more options to Coilovers and the fact that it won’t push your wheels forward when you lower it. If you don’t want to, you can get coilover sleeves off of ECS and adapt the 55mm coils to the stock rear beam.
@@whatsaninlinefive7009 I found a complete assembly at a local salvage yard but it’s off a 09 Jetta Wagon. I know the mk5 jetta is a direct fit, so you know if the wagon will be ?
You need new E Brake cables for the new set up. If I remember correctly, that’s it. Just disconnect the brake line from the drums and reconnect them to the new caliper. I lucked out and had bigger factory discs than the ones that came from the IRS.
@@whatsaninlinefive7009 e brake cables off a gli or something? And i also need a hard metal break line that was cut on the IRS and i went to a VW dealership with a Gti VIN and they still had no idea what part it was i was looking for

Yeah so E-brake cables off of any GLI or 2015-2018 Jetta. The metal line brake line has worked well for others. You’re just gonna have to slightly bend it, that’s what I did on mine, it’s the same for Drums as well.
