RE : the Cap issue with the timeline. Yes, Dan is basically correct. Cap traveled back and basically found himself a, and in a different timeline - a branched timeline different from the main timeline we're watching. (Banner's explanation basically lays out that it's more or less virtually impossible to travel back to the past of your own timeline based on this time travel logic (which is actually consistent with both Quantum Mechanics and Relativity as Einstein postulated the possibility of time travel)). So (again per Banner's explanation) none of the things he did in that timeline had any effect on the timeline he just left (like for example nullifying Peggy Carter's kids with her husband in the main timeline because he married her and caused her to never meet her husband). He then returns to the main timeline (presumably after Peggy death, which we can safely assume happens around the same time for all timelines which would be roughly around 2014 (or whenever Captain America: Civil War came out and Cap went to her funeral, because that's when she dies in that movie and one would assume, all timelines (of natural death) HOWEVER..... The big goof-up, flaw, plothole screw-up that the writers created (and then clumsily tried to explain away with an explanation which destroyed their own time travel logic) coems from HOW he returned to the main timeline. Per the Time travel logic of the movie, the only way to return to your own (or main timeline is using Tony's wrist devices which he described as a Space-Time GPS which basically describes what it does - i.e creates a marker or homing signal of sorts that allows the wearer to be able to find his way back through the infinite timeline streams, from whatever timeline they navigated to, along with the Pym particles to allow one to shrink small enough to access the time vortices - AND you also need a time tunnel or quantum bridge to travel BACK through (which would be what the wrist devices home back to). Otherwise it's chaos, as Tony put it and one would never be able to find their way back to their original timeline and navigate the chaos. We know Thanos destroyed the main Quantum tunnel or bridge that Tony created, and then he destroyed the one in Scott's van. Which leaves Bruce Banners newly created mini tunnel that we saw at the end of the movie. But we never saw Cap come back through it, which means the implication was either that he found his way back to the past of the main timeline and llived his life in the past of our (the main timeline) (

I am fairly certain that before Strange, Mordo had never seen someone mess with time so blatantly. I am guessing her policy was to not reverse time willy nilly? Also, if the sanctums fell Dormammu would get entry to Earth, that would make Loki's invasion look appealing. Not to mention she probably already foresaw that the Avengers deal with the invasion. Also, she probably didn't exactly see Thanos' arrival. She says she could never see past her own death.

Maybe right after he showed up in the past, Steve Rogers was pulled into the Ancient One's study (a la Thor and Loki in Ragnarok with Strange) and told on no uncertain terms not to interfere with any significant events in the future or else either the timeline would collapse or she would come give him grief for making her job more of a headache (being the keeper of the time stone and all). But if that's the case, someone really needs to go find Loki before that change messes up the future.

I wanna see a skit where Hawkeye and Black Widow stand next to the cliff and one of them has to explain to the other that they don't feel about them that way. "Look, you're like, my best friend..."
The thing with large scale tragedies in the normal world is that there are people personally affected, then there are people disassociated from the situation itself that feel sympathy, but can carry on the load of society, and maintain a sense of normalcy that the personally affected can transition into given proper time. With the snap, _everyone_ has at least one (99% of the people must've had multiple) person they knew, were friends with, loved, and so on that just went away. Every single person suffered a huge blow to their own personal life. I don't think 5 years is nearly enough time to go back to recover from that. I don't honestly know if society as we know it could ever recover from that, or if the people that make up society would want to.
3:30 He is not playing AC/DC out of his suit. He hacks into the jet Romanov is in and plays it over the PA system. It is also way after the guy stands up to Loki as Cap is the one who steps in at that point.
Time travel can be a cop out but cinematically it can be a great idea for super long projects like this. It's always so fun to go back and have the show actually recognize how much it's changed, or flesh out some scenes. The most satisfying moment was seeing Robert Redford come back, and Renee Russo. They were playing the unsung hits of this show. Still ticked they didn't revisit Obadiah Stane but whatever. That's magic of time travel in cinema. Something becoming more aware and introspective of itself.
I disagree with Lon. I've rewatched EndGame every night in a row since it came out on Digital. Maybe missed two nights. It's not only a rewatchable film, but every scene enhances the next and makes the movie feel that much better, making it hard to skim through to the "best scenes" because the other scenes make those scenes 10 times better
I agree with Dan. Platonic love is a real thing, and can be just as strong as romantic love. Natasha and Clint are clearly platonic life partners, so to each losing the other is a huge sacrifice, even if it's not an active decision on Clint's end. It doesn't say you must sacrifice that which you love, it says you must lose that which you love.
Well this rule isnt the ONLY rule. also a character we didnt own at the time but do now, actually solves in universe time travel allowing you to affect your own timeline. That is the reason time travel is explained over and over here. Also left out is that the time stone is not subject to any rules, not evdn e=mc2
The trailer was so packed with all of the love and jokes for the outcome of the founding members of this Avengers team and the MCU as a whole. Another interesting and entertaining video. Keep it up!
Here's my Captain America theory, 2023 version goes back to Peggy just after WW2 and never returns the stones (which causes an alternate timeline) he lives out his life and builds a utopia with the power of knowledge of what happens in the future. When Peggy dies of old age, they did up the frozen Captain America and have him return the stones, so as to restore the original timeline and the 2023 version then jumps ship to the Tony Stark's funeral since that was the moment where he originally goes back from.
It's kind of sad they had an "argument" over if you can even love your friend. I love my parents (I got lucky and didnt have shitty ones), my sisters are alright, but I definitely love my friends.

OMG!!! *That's* why the "Alan!!" Raptor Easter Egg wasn't there, anymore, for all these HT??!! WOW!! You guys are AWESOME!!! YES!! I know it seems like such a small thing, but I *loved* the fact that there was a consistent Easter Egg tying them all together... And I love Easter Eggs in general. And you tied it with the movie(s) with this splendid method, playing the long game. I wholeheartedly approve of this, and I'm looking forward to look for it it in future HTs.
I brought this question up in a DM to Hector Navarro once...and got a quick to the point response. If everyone who was snapped came back where they were snapped...what happened to all the helicopter and plane pilots that disappeared and then reappeared in the air without a plane?
The movie doesn't show it, but probably there was enough time skipped between grieving about Natasha's death and Hulk's snap. In that time they could have figure out exactly what to wish for
There are way more logical issues with the snap than that. The people who weren't snapped but whose pilot disappeared and then died when the plane crashed, did they come back? Did Thanos factor all those secondary deaths into his "half"? Then there's the deeper but harder to answer issues arising from the snap targeting half of all life, instead of half of sentient beings or something like that. Drawing lines between where one living entity ends and another begins isn't always simple. There are plenty of symbiotic relationships in nature where one living being cannot survive without another. Were there humans who got serious medical issues after their intestinal bacteria were killed? Mitochondria have their own DNA, and could in some ways be considered a separate life form living within other cells. Were they considered part of the things they're living in for the snap?
@1:01:05 yay for the little Ghostbusters reference! And hey. I do my share of the views when I let the trailers and commentaries play in the background while I do my stuff.
20:32 Just remember that Mysterio was in Tony’s BARF scene from Civil War in Far From Home but he’s not actually there in Civil War, so old Cap could’ve been at Peggy’s funeral.
I kinda agree with Spencer at how the final battle was a lot of cgi hoards running at each other that it was a little underwhelming. The battle was definitely punctuated by great moments but I was also watching got season 8 at around the same time period so the whole armies fighting each other thing was a little too familiar to me while I was watching endgame.
The real issue with the idea that Cap could go back, return the infinity stones, and not create an alternate timeline is the fact that Past Thanos and his army got snapped out of existence. Even assuming a best case scenario where all of the Avenger's collective time shenanigans only create one alternate timeline, it is a timeline that is irrevocably different from the main timeline because Thanos won't exist in it after 2014.
Completely agree with Dan at 16:14. People who say Widow was "fridged" don't understand her character or arc across these films and only see her through the surface-level prism of her gender. She's much more than just a female avenger, folks.
Had a pretty rough day and needed something to cheer me up so I came back to this... Thanks Fandom/SJU for taking one of the most heart wrenching movies and adding your special flair to make me laugh on a rough day. ❤️
Quick note: 55 million people die every year. If 3.7 billion people suddenly disappeared, not died, but literally vanished on dust before everyone else’s eyes... that would mean virtually the entire world would be mourning at once. Sudden death of a spouse is difficult to deal with quickly. The sudden death of a child is almost impossible. Are any of you married or have kids? It would take a minimum of 20 years for the world to come all the way back probably. Also... this makes for a better drama in a movie. All movies are convenient.
The time travel writing into a corner: If we get a throw away line by Bruce/Hulk that the machine they built to send the infinity stones back was destroyed and then he destroyed all the data about it, I'd be fine with it. There'd be enough residual data that if the plot needed time travel again you could (with effort) recreate it, but it wouldn't be so simply as "oh that was bad lets go back and fix it" b/c none of the equipment or supplies would be readily available or easy to make/grab.

This vibranium plus sounds like a cool metal plan.
People expect to see ramifications, but they complain when they get one.. there's just no pleasing people.
"seller of Avenger indulgences" was brilliant, thank you
John’s line read on “He Dead” killed me I watched it back 4 times 😂
I knew this was gonna be a long one :) Also poor Lon 45 minutes in, everyone just ignores the hell outta him
Good
Spencer at 0:48: "I don't have much to say. It's all in the trailer."

I'm increasingly convinced that Endgame was completely built around setting up Natalie Portman to return for another Taika Waititi movie
Finally your commentary. I'm going to enjoy it. Very very much.
"I'm still playing through Chrono Trigger."
Joe Starr is my favourite person on the internet today.
3:30 He is not playing AC/DC out of his suit. He hacks into the jet Romanov is in and plays it over the PA system. It is also way after the guy stands up to Loki as Cap is the one who steps in at that point.
Thanks Dan, for being the only one with any common sense about the Cap time travel thing.
Yes!!! And it's annoying how the others are still like "yeah....but..." but nothing, Dan is the only one making any sense
What we're looking for with time travel is not that it matches real-world time travel, but that the movie follows its own rules...
Thank you!!!
Keep it up!
I didn't even realize the "Alan Raptor" until I watched this commentary😂😂😂
Thank You Dan! Seemingly the only person with a platform that has had that take on Widow’s death in the movie. Couldn’t agree more!

I miss when they would have the writer or director of the film come in to react.
I'm disappointed we didn't get to see the whole panel's reaction to Joe's "two Caps one Peggy" joke as 22:55
I saw a thread floating around that his double edge blade was dwarven made. Which would likely give it the ability to cut something like vibranium
In that time they could have figure out exactly what to wish for
Feige confirmed that the revival snap would have brought people back in the air and unfeasible areas to a safe place
You couldn't live without knowing the details of how the Endgame trailer was made...and where did that lead you?...back to here.
Another great movie where someone is eating all the time: Tony Shalhoub in Galaxy Quest.
galaxy quest was so great, its a shame that with alan rickman passing, we'll never get the planned sequel

Good to see some other West Ham fans around here.
Joe Starr actually knowing Louis Pasteur helped discover the Rabies Vaccine. New favorite screen junkie status.
Develop, not discover. There's an important difference.
Completely agree with Dan at 16:14. People who say Widow was "fridged" don't understand her character or arc across these films and only see her through the surface-level prism of her gender. She's much more than just a female avenger, folks.
I was gonna ask who caught all the Cap clenching on the trailer but forgot and Spencer answered anyways.
Had a pretty rough day and needed something to cheer me up so I came back to this...

These honest trailer commentaries are the most self indulgent videos I’ve seen on RUclips
Dude I literally watch Endgame 4-9 times a week at least!!! It’s my all time favorite movie!!! And it still gets me excited to watch it!!! 😍😍😍
Dan watch tilda’s explanation to the end. The stones go back, the alternate branch dies
Yes I was surprised Dan of all people didn't notice that.
But the stones didn't all go back.... Loki made off with the tesseract, so there is an alternate branch from that point on that never died.......
You can't "go back and fix it". You can't change your own past with time travel. They needed the Stones to "fix it" and they are gone now
@@dansharp2860 You're right and I wasn't being clear about what i meant. Lets replace that phrase with "go back and get the Plot Device that we need to fix our current present". That better?
