- AST SpaceMobile is scheduled to launch its first five commercial satellites to low Earth orbit at 4:52am EDT on Thursday, September 12, 2024. The mission, called BlueBird 1-5, will liftoff from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. Watch AST SpaceMobile's live show featuring launch status updates, new videos, interviews with special guests from AT&T and American Tower, and more. The broadcast will begin approximately one hour before the targeted launch time. The exact timing of launch is subject to change based on a number of factors, including readiness of the launch vehicle, weather conditions, and other factors - so stay tuned to AST SpaceMobile's social media channels for the latest updates.

This is just absolutely amazing, I have to admit I did get a bit of PTSD when I heard the Kerbal space program music play lol but other than that I'm still flabbergasted that they are up right now. Truly a historic date to remember! Well done AST

I am so jazzed about this! One because of the stock but two because I hate dead zones! I'm excited to build my retirement but also excited to not drop the call to and from daycare (which currently happens and I live in a populated area). Also, smart of them to blur out all the things on the wall and the monitors because you know the spacemob would have reverse engineered it all!!!

Due to a lack of internet in rural aerea this is the best web cast I have seen. The first. It is incredible and there is no better name as bluebird. I am so unhappy that I have no one to share. I tried but I only know afraid and negative people who do not understand English. I can't wait to use it. I was connecting international phone calls to rooms in one hotel by cable. 4 decades ago. I am really impressed by the art of working together. I get 100 answers that raise 200 questions. For instance: How is the flip of the 1st stage created? Has it not to be cooled down during reentry? Looking forward to an answer ❤🎉❤
I could be wrong it’s been a minute since I really looked at all the details but for space x’s falcon 9 I don’t think there is a flip maneuver, it comes down in the same orientation it went up. It doesn’t get as far up there as the stage 2 so there isn’t as much heat and velocity to scrub iirc. I’ll try and fine a video that describes the process more.
@@grahamwho2 Thank you! You are very kind. I saw it on a drawing of the maneuver on the video of AST and heard a flip mentioned. Like a nine. And the landing was on a platform if I remember right close to Vandenberg. I have a MECO! Are both sides having landing gear to land and for landing burn? A flip could be due to weight difference in free fall? Like position of fueltank? Or was it an extra bonus for rural pollyannas 😀😃🙂 That I cannot trust my eyes I already know. How do you think the price will rise again to $38 in the coming days. And for how many days they will put them in the intermediate orbit and then they themselves put themselves in their orbit for days. And does this pose risks. Most of all, it's strange to me why everything went well and the price fell. Before, for a few pictures, the price skyrocketed, and now after such a big and successful step, the price is in the red.
Pre market trading is not reflective of daily movements. It might take 2 months to unfurl the arrays so theres still risks before the company generates revenue from MNO subscribers

Cool! Anyone who knows, what makes this different than SpaceX’s starlink direct to cell tech? Or is it basically the same thing? Cool to have some competition for space x tho.
I guess one thing is the super large antenna array for its gen 2 bluebird. Don’t think space x is doing that. But man it seems like it would be hard to compete with space x since they own/control the rockets to get all these sats up there, and there gonna need to put so many sats up there in Leo to not have intermittent dead zones? Prolly hundreds at least to have full coverage all the time gotta be expensive. Anyone heard them say how many they’d need to get full coverage all the time?
@@grahamwho245-60 satellites for continuous US coverage. Should be ready in 2026. Starlink is not a competition at this point, their tech is years behind.
@@lmenusinteresting, what makes starlink years behind? 45-60, so hopefully they’ll be able to send up more than 5 at a time at some point soon, you happen to know how many they’ll plan on sending up at a time, cause if it stayed @ 5 we’re talking 8 more launches min for 45, for 65 we’re talking 12 more launches assuming the first 5 count and aren’t just test or something. I’m glad they’re both working on this kinda thing, I read something the other day that SpaceX even had their starlink direct to cell tech working inside buildings, pretty cool. I’m hoping for the best for these guys though cause I have ATT not T-mobile so what starlink does doesn’t help me yet unless ATT strikes a contract with SpaceX too. Good luck to all of the folks working on this tech regardless.
@@grahamwho2 Starlink has significant interference problems, they need 1,500 satellites just to be able to offer voice and that won’t happen before 2026 either. That’s assuming they’ll get a waiver for their service, otherwise it will be degraded. Have you seen any indoor demos?
AST yes, 5-6 satellites per launch. The plan is to have a full US coverage by 2026 too, but it will support data, voice, and text, not just text and voice like Starlink/others.
