Here's an instrument we don't hear about much in mainstream day to day guitar culture, and it's not to be overlooked. As a Canadian, I have to admit that this one made me happy. This is a Godin Stadium Pro made in La Patrie, Quebec. This take on the classic T style has a couple unique features that make it stand out from the pack.
First off, the body is made from Canadian Basswood, featuring a very comfortable belly cut at the back, and the neck is made from hard rock Canadian maple, with a Rosewood fretboard. Secondly, unlike most T styles this one has a 12 inch fretboard radius making bending effortless and smooth. The guitar is also extremely light weight, this particular example coming in around 6 1/2 pounds. One more special feature is the primo pickups. The Stadium Pro has a TV Jones Starwood in the neck position and a Lollar T Special in the bridge.
My verdict: Seldom do I see manufactures mix pickup brands like this, but the result is a well thought out range of usable tones, with all 3 pickup positions complementing one another. The added bonus is that we get a hum cancelling position when both are on. Admittedly, I don't like the top mounted jack, or top mounted jacks in general, but I guess Godin had to do something to make the guitar visually different from other T styles on the market. $1700 (cdn) is a lot of money to part with, but instruments are getting expensive these days, and this one packs a lot of features into a gig ready package. It's definitely something to consider if you are in the market for a T style.
