Thanks so much for your excellent help, but also for your immediate response! So glad I found your channel. I've knitted for years but only blankets and scarves! I can knit lace, cabkes, and on and on, but I didn't know how to knit an easy peasy hat and as far as math goes, anything being 1+1=2 is over my head! So thanks for this help. I'm on my way to becoming a fearless knitter. Not holding myself back anymore.
I just love to hear that! It really helped my knitting to realize that not taking it so seriously is okay. I’m always happy to help! Thanks for watching and happy knitting! 🖤
Great tutorial, just one type of stitch and was super easy and looks good. I used size 13 needles and it worked perfectly. Was my first ever hat and first ever project in the round. Love this style, looks great on men and women and was super warm for winter. Made one for my dad and brother, great fit. Already have requests from the women in my family and I’ll use the same size.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I used it for my first in the round project. Cast it on last night and finished it today! Had a lot of fun with it!
Hi! I just sat down and made one of these hats for my hubby tonight! It turned out GREAT!!! So easy to follow! Thank you! I will be making another one tomorrow.... But this time for ME!!! Thank you for this great tutorial! I had tried making a hat several other times but always ripped it out! I am still a very novice knitter but loved making this!
I am super happy to see you on youtube! I have been following you on instagram when you were the "new" kid on instagram and to see you come so far is awesome!
Make a little gauge swatch with the yarn and needles you want to use. Once you have your swatch see how many stitches you have per inch. Take that number (number of stitches) and multiply it by your head circumference (average adult head is 23ish inches)! That is how many stitches you should cast on. I prefer to subtract a couple for a more snug fit and to account for stretching with wear. Hope this helps! ☺️
It’s not really necessary for hats! I would say the only time it’s important to block a hat is if it has lace or colorwork that you want to show off better.
How did you get the edge of the brim so flat in the one you had already finished. It looks almost like it was ironed flat. Did you weight it with something so the brim edge wouldn't be so fat and rounded?
The connection of stitches looks like it sticks out. Wouldn't this be uncomfortable on your head. Also why do you pick up two stitches to join band. Cast on and other in next row? Thanks
I'm late to the comments, but I've been making this hat for the last 2 yrs and love it! Thank you so much for this video! I want to change my yarn weight down to a 5 bulky. Do you know how that would change the needle size and cast on stitches?
I can’t give an accurate number without knowing your gauge. Knit a swatch in the round and measure the number of stitches in an inch an multiply that number by the head circumference! Hope this helps some!
I've watched a few videos now on how to create a double brim hat. I'm wondering if I'm missing something as well. Are you turning your work before you start to connect your work to make the brim? Every video I watch shows the knitter putting the wrong side together by tucking their work inside and connecting but as I knit, I would have to cuff the work up on the outside to have the wrong sides together. I mean as I'm knitting the right side is on the inside of my needles and the wrong side is on the outside. Hope this makes sense.
Where do u buy ur Pom Pom’s? The one's I get at Michael’s have the elastic lil loop which is hard to secure to the top good..too floppy, ur tutorial was very good 👍
I’m not too Findlay with children sizing. But I know with thick and quick and a 10mm needle I get 2 stitches per inch. So I would take the size of the head and multiply that by 2 and that is how many I would cast on! So maybe do a little gauge swatch and go from there!
Thank you for this tutorial. I have this type of yarn but I don't have the size 10 mm needles. I will need to buy one this weekend. I'm a newbie to the knitting world. I now know what I will be making for next year's gift. By the way, do you have a favorite needle? Would you be able to recommend one?
@@LunarKnitsbyLori - I have another question please. Would you ever consider making a tutorial for a raglan sweater or cardigan for a beginner like me? I've been looking for a tutorial here on youtube and the ones that I've seen are not really geared for beginners. Most tell me to slow down the video but when I do that, it distorts the image and becomes blurry so I can't really see exactly see what they are doing. I'm a visual learner. Thank you.
I am confused. Are you straight knitting how can you have a stockinette stitch on one side with the direction you are putting the needle into make the next stitch. The working yarn in the back, from what I can see. I am currently knitting a blanket with what you are doing and I have a garter stitch. Confused how I will get what you are making with what I am currently doing. I am wondering if I am missing something in the video that you are doing that hasn't been stated. I am a very new knitter and just trying to sort through it.
So when you work in the round you will get stockinette if you knit every round. However, when knitting a blanket you have to turn your work meaning you have to knit one side and purl on the other in order to achieve stockinette. So the difference in what we’re doing is, you’re turning your work and I am not.
Thank you so much. I figured that out a bit after I posted this dilemma to you. I am new to knitting. I had no idea that knitting in the round could make a stitch so different. So different from crochet. Thank you so much for answering so quickly and great tutorial!
My husband asked me to knit him a beanie and yours looks nice and easy to make I'm just wondering why there aren't any decreases at the top like the other videos that I have been watching
I personally like to knit the tail with my working yarn for the first few stitches to secure it into place. It allows me to not have to worry about weaving it in later. Honestly, it’s something I learned when I started knitting and I have just always done it.
Lunar Knits by Lori Oh, well that makes sense. I'm going to have to try that. Thanks for replying. I'm always looking for tips. I've only been knitting a couple months, so I'm still learning. Thank you! (And I also realized I'm logged into my husband's account...whoops. ha)
Hi! Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I’m a very new knitter. I’m wondering if my head circumference is 22in and I’m knitting 3 stitches per inch.. should I then cast 66 stitches?
I loved the video. Fast, precise and well explained. Congrats !!!

Ty I have 6 grown granddaughters they will all be wearing your cute beanie this year you are very to the point and clear!✅☝️

This is my very first knitting project hat that turned out! Great teacher! Please do more tutorials..ty

This is my favourite style of hat to make! Thanks for this great tutorial! :)
Thank you for this video! Will use this for my first knit hat attempt!
Cool. It reminds me of the brm created in loom knitting.
What cast on number of stitches would you recommend for a child hat aged 3-8
🎉🎉🎉finally an afternoon knitting pattern for the winter. Is that a size US 15 or 13 knitting needles??
Great video!!
Can u please tell me how to calculate how many stitches to cast on as I'd like to make this out of worsted #4 yarn on 7-8 needles? I love this ❤

Thank you for the wonderful video.

What are the finished measurements and width of the brim for your hat?

Love your labels too...where do you order them ?
Have you made this in worsted weight? How many cast on stitches would that come out to? Double the amount of this one?
The
What's the difference if I use an 8mm needle? Would I need more cast on stitches? I'm just getting into knitting and really want to try this project!

I’m having the same problem and can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
how much super bulky size 6 yarn did the project take?
Is this not stockinette stitch? You mention to knit all stitches… wondering if it’s knit one or, pearl one row?
You will knit all stitches through the whole pattern as this is worked in the round and not flat.
When joining brim, are you putting your needle through one cast on loop or booth loops? Thanks!
Both loops!
You explained this perfectly, thank you 😊
Where do u buy ur Pom Pom’s? The one's I get at Michael’s have the elastic lil loop which is hard to secure to the top good..too floppy, ur tutorial was very good 👍
I make my own Pom Poms! I have a video tutorial on my channel of how I do it. ☺️
Which one??
Thank you so much to this video....can so show how the cast on is please
When you join the first row and knit the first 2 stitches with the tail yarn, are you using just the tail yarn or both pieces of yarn?
Donna L Smith both
If I wanted to make a child’s double brim -age 5 how many would I cast on approximately? Ps love your hat and I have so much LB thick and quick stash

I’m so glad you liked it! My favorite needles are Chiagoo knitting needles! I also really like the takumi bamboo knitting needles. ☺️

Hi! What yarn did u use to make the gray hat? I love it. It doesn't look as thick as the thick and quick yarn that you are using.
I believe it’s lion brand wool ease chunky. ☺️
Love it!
Would like to see this crocheted 🧶 I’m not a knitter but this was a good video!
I actually sell a crochet pattern for a hat like this on my ravelry!
Thanks . Very good .

I personally like the way it bunches when you don’t decrease. But you can definitely increase if you prefer.
What is the benefit on knitting your tail for the first couple of stitches after you cast on? I've never heard of that...
I personally like to knit the tail with my working yarn for the first few stitches to secure it into place. It allows me to not have to worry about weaving it in later. Honestly, it’s something I learned when I started knitting and I have just always done it.

رائعة 😍 very very nice 🌹
I request of you could please show a little slower how to cast on and then how the stitches first move over..thank u
Great video. Wish you had worn it, so we can see how it looks.
Hi! Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I’m a very new knitter. I’m wondering if my head circumference is 22in and I’m knitting 3 stitches per inch.. should I then cast 66 stitches?
I would probably cast on 63. Hats will stretch overtime so it’s important to make them a little smaller to compensate.
Lunar Knits by Lori thank you!!! 🙂
I did the 42 stitches and my hat will fit a child.
no decrease row maybe 1 would be less bulky
You said you were using a 10 mm needle...did you mean US size 10 needle?
No. I used a 10mm!
42 stitches doesn't seem like much
i follow you on instagram! :)
