Hey Tom great video,it looks like you had a good night of fishing..I've been going their for several yrs now.. haven't had much luck ( it's clearly me..the fish are there but not sure what I'm doing wrong)
I've fished freshwater my whole life.lakes+the Susquehanna river for big cats an bass+ and countless CRICKS!
SALT WATER seems completely different!? Not sure what I'm missing?
I have an 8ft +10ft rod with 30,60lb braid...I'm doing my damnest to catch sand bars or any shark that may be there..But no luck yet...
I primarily use bunker that I cut into chunks..I get 3pieces out of 1 bunker...
Do you suggest any different bait for sharks at night?
Would a live bait be better?
I usually set up rite where the sawmill is...don't know if you've fished that section before and had any luck?
Anyways any info you may have that would help me to not be a horrible surf fishing newb would be greatly appreciated..I'm actually heading down next sat for 10 days to try my luck again.. alright THANKS much appreciated..-j

Saltwater is definitely harder, especially from the surf. My biggest tip would be to scout out the beach at dead low tide. Look for the deepest sections of water closest to the shore, or any other defined structure that may hold fish. I use Google Maps to drop pins on the spots that I want to fish. That way when I come back at night, I know exactly where to go.
I don't have any experience going for big sharks. However, with all other game fish, casting distance is never really an issue (especially at night). You'll be surprised how close fish get to shore during high tide under the cover of darkness, or a cloudy/foggy day.
Bunker has always worked for me, catching bluefish, stripers, skates, stingrays and dogfish. Clams are generally preferred by the stripers, skates, and stingrays.
As far as conditions go, the more miserable the conditions are for you to fish in, the better odds you have at catching fish. Windy, stormy days with strong current produce much more frequently than calm sunny says. However, as with all fishing, nothing is guaranteed.
Best of luck on Saturday! Hopefully, I'll be making my way down this summer to do some fishing as well.

Night fishing at the beach sure has its unique feel. You never know if there are others fishing near you until headlamps became popular. I remember holding flashlight with my teeth while fiddling with the lures 😬

Very "old school" to hold your rod while surf fishing (no pun intended). I still have my grandfather's rod gimble which he wore, never using a "sand spike". A few suggestions; buy a head lamp with a red light option. The red light will allow your eyes to adjust to darkness. Also, when using a "Bomber" or any swimming plug, keep your rod tip up, SLOW DOWN your retrieve and fish your plug right to the beach. Again, keep your white lights OFF unless you're unhooking a catch or untangling a monster knot. Oh yes, think about changing to braided line, you'll thank me later.

I like to feel the bites so I always hold it😂. I spooled braid onto my lighter surf rod and it makes a worlds of difference. I can cast a lot further. Thank you for the tips, I still have a lot to learn from the surf

Good to know they allow you to fish on the beach there. We are headed down today with the family and I thought I would have to go to island beach state park to fish.

There will be green flags in front of the lifeguards that designates an area for swimmers. Fisherman and surfers can go anywhere else. Good luck!
