Lots of people sort of just standing around. The interesting thing about that is that is probably pretty accurate. In movies it's as if every single soldier is paired off, but in reality, 3rd rank and back were pretty much just standing there until the guy in front of them died. I couldn't imagine being that guy 5-6 ranks back just waiting as the enemy advances, feeling helpless, and pretty much just waiting for my turn to face the meat grinder of medieval combat.
I also noticed that they kinda kept rotating. And it was actually common in medieval combat that if you were the 4th or 5th in the line and saw the 3 men in front of you die and your line has been pushed back a lot, to actually flea. Most medieval battles ended with the majority of an army retreating or scattering. Usually the casualty rate was 10-20% (i could be off) but typically the average soldier ran away when things looked bad.
Not helpless, not alot of these guys have spears, when in reality when plate armour is a thing big 7, 8 or even 9 foot pikes were a thing so you would be thrusting and defending your allies as much as possible
Probably not so much waiting for the guy in front of them to die, but rather waiting for him to get tired after a few minutes and swapping places with him. Combat throughout history wasn't nearly as deadly as we believe today. Because our modern industrial type of warfare is insanely deadly by comparison. People really, really don't want to die. And so most will go to huge lengths to protect themselves as best they can. Armor is pretty effective against a lot of the weapons used in those days. The reason all the famous battles were so deadly, was because they were so rare. And that's why they became (in)famous.

"All warfare is based on deception" is a very good quote to describe why Buhurt is such a good sport. Most battles historically were a battle of endurance and state of mind. Most casualties of war did not happen till a side broke and ran being cut down in the act. Hence fooling or convincing the enemy that you were stronger in any way was so important. Buhurt really takes the essence of that truth of war and condenses it into a ring. This video alone shows so much. Take for example the way the sides were trying to pump themselves up and simultaneously scare the enemy. Then after initial contact it was a straight 6 or 8 minutes of grueling melee which there was no clear sign of a winner, however by that 8 minute mark men began dropping on the camera man's side. This mental blow seeing men go down when they could have fought on is the quintessential aspect of war people don't understand. None of them were bleeding. none of them had broken bones, but there will to fight had diminished in the face of their exhaustion. The enemy had not. The enemy was also just as tired but stayed a cohesive unit in pockets around the ring plowing down those that were smaller then them. Another mental blow. All this in culmination creates the very fun sport of Buhurt. Now yes there could be alot more strategy involved. Roman style rotational front lines would be awesome to see with halberds. But all in all if you know what to look for there is quite a bit of strategy involved.
Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Seriously many teams do have tactics. But it's not always easy to implement in groups of people from different countries you have never met before. Nor speak the same language.
Yep, most actual casualties were when the enemy routed. Hunting them down on horseback or launching projectiles into them as they flee. Main hand to hand combat wasn’t usually the cause of casualties.
This is what a large scale medieval battle would look like, ranks of guys backing eachother up, rather than the Hollywood hundreds of people in their own little duels!!!!!

11:05 Some guy in the background: Get back! Get back!
*gets smoked mercilessly*
7:48 that swing was incredible
What haplened there? Did knocked down his own mates?
@@YomomsscknondischetI think he tried to knock down an enemy and they fell on his teammates
Will you be covering the World Championships in Spain this year?
8:20 I like the detail of the Scottish flag on the tabard
dude the last half minute was just him being like "kill me if you can spineless bastards". also love the instant fistbump at the end
Major props there at the end he took a real beating, even with armor that shit still hurts
LOL 3:18 , guy got hit like a dinner bell.
Made me laugh my head off too
Next time can you do 3rd person view?
RedditISasshole this game is locked in first person unfortunately
@@antihypocrite510 ah yes , Kingdom Come Deliverance
@@Numbie. Jesus christ be praised!
RedditISasshole dont think that will happen any time soon.
Haven’t seen an update to the game yet.
11:04 they don't know they are trying kill true berserk #LastManstanding
😀
I like to imagine that this isnt too far from real mediaeval battles in history; way more caution and actual lines than hollywoods "everyman for themself!" Version
No need to imagine, this is how it actually was) the only difference that back in those times they're also used stabbing
Yeah, imagine those "running under pikes" moves they showed in Alatriste. You'll be dead in a second if you'll try to run under your enemies' weapons.
@@KorsarNik it was used but way more risky, a pikes haft cant do mutch to you but what was not shown in the scene was that those going under them would face 3-4 rows of pikes they had to cast aside
This is the opposite of practicing "Social Distancing ".
So much fun seeing a 150v150 in first person. Can't wait til I'm suiting up and there irl!
When you know that in the French team team there is a descendent of Napoléon , bro that shit is fire
I really love this video and I wish I was there.
I really want to join this "Battle of the nations"
Korede shimaida
Excellent video, thanks for the sharing!
Can we know what did they say to eachother at the end?
russian fighter was blaming him for hitting into the lowest parts of foot at the fight start, he answered it was accidentally
@@hirdbarding3399 thanks
Russians, Germans, and British fought really good together. Americans and French were especially chaotic.
Great video. Stuff like this is getting me hyped and thats good because i wanna join this sport in the near future and im realy excited. Maybe ill even see Igor irl. :D
The new mount and blade looks amazing!!!
Great competition i hope i can get into it one day. The only issue is that a lot of contestants don’t really utilize tactics on the field its more stand and wait rather than deploying men to weak points and flanking the enemy formations
11:05 also gives pure Kingdom Come Deliverance flashbacks.
This looks so much fun
Me thinking I'm good enough to solo a small camp of Cumans (I ended up being surrounded and killed)
The US side was tripping on their own people. They gotta work on their positioning. Love how calm and collected the Russians are.
Not us it's Ukraine
I’m pretty sure it was Ukraine not the US
8:42 HOLD THE LIIIINE lol this is so sick man, wish I could do it
8:31 ufffff good hit my friend
11:05 damn they really ganged up on you there. It's like the people at the supermarket fighting for toilet paper in 2021.
Lots of metal heads. Lots of shouts. Solid metal band
10/10 would listen to again
This is the best sport ever 😁😆🤣! Been years and still love to watch that.
I think that such sport is wasted in a close area. Imagine the manuevers they could do in an open area, it would be much more fun!
This might just be the best recreation of a medieval battle
