One of the Greatest songs ever. ONE.............never gets old......has healing power.....touching the lives of those who are suffering.... With....ONE.
In my opinion, this song is about a father's disappointment in his son. Not that he is gay, but that he did not live up to his father's expectations. Any reason the father feels disappointed is equally destructive to the child. I can feel that disappointment in my relationship with my father in this song, I'm 62 years old and when I listen to this song it still makes me cry...

I find this to be one of the most beautiful and pain filled songs of their cannon. Bono is speaking about the difficulty in wants and aspirations individually and collectively in life, how they don't always match, and it leaving you self tortured. It's about the relationship between close people, such as husband/wife and/or band mates .
Bono said the song was about division and the struggle for unity. The band was struggling when they recorded it, and that's where the line we got to carry each other.

Had the amazing good fortune to be living in Berlin when the wall came down. Hard to describe the emotion of that time when one considers the history that preceeded it. The look on people's faces both East and West as it dawned on them what was actually happening will always be with me. One of joy and one which no matter the circumstances given 2020/21 we should always carry with us. There is always hope.
This is probably one of the best 90's songs as it opened up the 90's and closed out the 80's. Achtung Baby came out just as the Berlin Wall was coming down so this song is the staple song for the 90's as the lyrics are very haunting. The music is very basic and this is why the song is so easy to listen to. Not the best vs U2's 80's hits, but this song was U2's desperate gasp to keep them going.
