    Hi, had a similar problem with mine, but mine was due to damage on the needle plate cutting the bobbin thread as it was being pulled up. Replaced the bobbin plate, no more problems. To test this try using the zig zag plate instead, it should be fine for a small embroidery.
    Hope this helps, good luck. Regards Tim

    I'm so glad to find your video here. I just got my machine back from service (mine was 6 weeks!), and the sewing is fine but the embroidery has NEVER worked for me! I feel like such an idiot. Until I found your video. I'm sorry we're having problems, but I'm glad I'm not alone.

    I have had my 15,000 since 2017. She doesn’t get much use because I use my Juki TL for piecing. However, when she is used for embroidering, I criss cross the thread in the take up lever (coming from the left side instead of the right). There have been lots of FB posts about this issue. I have had tremendous success using Thread Art 60 weight bobbin thread with the yellow dot bobbin holder. I have not had good results with Schmetz needles in my 11,000 or my 15,000-organ or Janome brands work the best. The yellow dot holder is set at a higher tension for use with thinner threads. It is very frustrating to invest so much money into a top of the line machine and have issues. Good luck.

    I've had a similar problem with a high end Bernina embroidery machine. I stopped using it 2 years ago. I still have 1 year of payments before it is paid off. I repeatedly brought it to the dealer with no improvement. My dealer in Augusta Georgia doesn't care. He said he didn't build it don't blame him. I even insisted it be returned to Bernina for repair. They had it for several months and I got it back in the same condition. They don't seem to check the embroidery they just run it through sewing and decorative stitches like I see in your video. I don't even remember the model number. I can't stand to look at this pricey piece of garbage that the dealer doesn't stand behind the customer to fight Bernina. Same as you, after a few years of stress I found numerous complaints about that model on the internet. Broken thread, jammed embroidery, broken needles and massive thread bird nests. I have burrs on the bobbin casing. They told me that was part of the problem. The machine keeps making the burrs not me! I feel your pain!!!

    I haven’t used my Janome in several years. I totally gave up. But one of the problems was “breaking” thread. Until I noticed that the thread wasn’t breaking. It was coming out of the needle. They replaced some sort of part and that problem was fixed. You might want to check that out. I just found your channel tonight, so I haven’t watched any of the other videos. BTW, I was told to use the standard bobbin case for sewing and embroidery. The yellow dot bobbin case was to be used for bobbin thread that is not the standard size that is recommended for embroidery.

      Yellow case is for non Janome bobbin thread. The reason is that Janome bobbin thread is thicker than other bobbin threads.

    I don’t know if this is too late to be helpful but I have
    Found that the thread jumps out of the take up leaver if it is not in the highest position when you start sewing also starting off slowly makes a huge difference in issues occurring.I understand this is a know issue and so long as I do that I have no issue. I have also found my bo on needs to be really well/ tightly wound. I am looking at buying an m7 shortly and I believe the jumping out problem is resolved in that machine.

    Interesting video. I have never had this problem on any of my Janome machines. 6600, 12000 and 15000. My analysis is: The upper thread isn't staying in the uptake lever, that's what that sound is. Or, Do you think it's that the bobbin thread is getting hung up in the bobbin tension, because the tension there is too tight and that's what's yanking it up???? Or is the timing off? Have your tried reversing the thread through the uptake lever, that oftentimes helps. Also, My Janome machines have never liked floriani thread, it shreds.

      I had just about finished explaining how you can put together a control test kit and how to use it to periodically test your machine, especially when you are having issues. I find this invaluable both in identifying if my machine may be malfunctioning, simply need cleaning or the more common result - sewer error. Whilst you can use the red dot bobbin holder for embroidery, it is not advised you do this permanently or long term. I would only do this if it is necessary to embroider before being able to obtain a replacement yellow dot holder. And even then, you would need to pay careful attention to thread you are using for both the bobbin and the embroidery top thread. the MC 9900 and above machines are all calibrated to do embroidery using the yellow dot holder which has higher tension. I have noticed over the years that the yellow dot bobbin holder has slightly smaller gaps where you would pass the thread through to fit your bobbin. It is also VERY important you don't use the yellow dot or extra yellow dot bobbin holder when doing normal sewing especially when you are using the thicker sewing threads. If you need to you can use bobbin thread for both upper and for bobbin thread. As well as designed for the bobbin thread, the yellow dot, while it looks identical to the red dot, has been designed not only for bobbin thread, but also to be able to work at the highest speeds in a smooth consistent and stable manner seriously minimising fluctuations in tension and keeping the bobbin secure with no jumping up and down of the bobbin. You machine will, when in embroidery mode, assume you are using this bobbin holder and will be adjusting the top tension to optimum expecting a thread that is 20 pts thicker than the bobbin thread. likewise the red bobbin holder is designed to be used with the same thread as the top thread which the machine, when initially doing its auto tension will set the tension assuming you have the same thread in the bobbin with the red dot holder. If you use bobbin thread in this holder you can get away with it only if you use the same for the top. Anything else and you risk your tension not being set correctly by the machine which will cause problems - maybe not straight away, but after sewing for a certain continuous stitch , your threads at the stitch point will be the wrong tensions and may cause the thread to jump out of the take up leaver or start to bunch your stitches eventually causing a stitch not to complete all the way before the next one starts and your upper thread will gather and then dislodge your holder moving it around to the needle and jam. Likewise, if the correct proportion of thread thickness is not used with the yellow dot bobbin, especially if you are using it for sewing. then you will have the same issue . I have noticed that this sometimes causes the upper thread to come out of the take up leaver with the first few stitches. and will again lose it's thread when it cuts the thread and starts to embroidery again. Slower speed also will cause the machine to jam more and increasing the speed will stabilise the tension but if it is the wrong holder, you risk the holder being pulled around and at the higher speed you will damage the holder and you will break the needle. You also risk the needle bending before breaking which will damage your plate. The more times this happens then the greater the chance you start to through the whole movement out of balance from needle to the hook and start missing stitches . Personally, if you always make the necessary adjustments , there is no reason you can't use both holders for both sewing and embroidery for the odd job. And get a replacement for the damaged holder asap. Otherwise you may get too comfortable using just the one and then end up needing to buy both and a pack of needles to boot.
      I learnt the hard way, ages ago, on more than one occasion If you have money to burn on bobbin holders at £30 a pop and can afford to produce less than perfect work then know that it will eventually start to compromise other workig parts and will need to go in for a service or repair which may not be successful if its' only in embroidery where the problem is.
      Not sure how much Steven ended up having to pay to have his machine serviced expecting to have the tension issue fixed.

    Hi Steven. I noticed that in embroidery mode, to thread the top thread, and lock out the machine, the presser foot goes down. On most machines this closes the tension discs for the upper thread. Which then prevents the top tread from having any tension on it, causing it to not pick up the bobbin thread, and you get a nest underneath. Does the presser foot also lower when you thread the top thread, and lock out the machine, when you are in regular sewing mode? If the foot then stays up, there's your problem. On ALL of my machines the presser foot has to stay up while i thread the top thread. Just my 2 cents. Hope this might help you out.

But I still have the same problems as you do. Can't tell you how many times I changed the yellow dot bobbin case - This is for embroidery.

    I have a Pfaff creative sensation pro. Pfaff had this problem. They put a snap on the take up leaver so it would not snap out. Every time I take mine in the tension is just a little different. Pfaff does not have different bobbins. If you can adjust the yellow bobbin a little less or try your red bobbin in embroidery. Try see what happens. Also use the zig zag plate to see if thread can be pulled up just for some insight. Can you adjust your upper tension by a few less each time to see what may work? Theses are things I did so I could tell my repair man what was going on.

    Have your tried Organ or Janome needles? My husband took careful measurements (with a micrometer caliper) of Schmetz needles and Janome needles and found that there are differences in the scarf cut, needle eye position, the length of the needle and diameter of the needle. I can't use Schmetz needles in my 15000. I have similar difficulties if I do. The Florani needle box you showed said "Floriani" but also said Schmetz. That could be all your trouble. The other thing I noticed, I thought you were supposed to have the machine take one stitch and then manually pull up the bobbin thread, take a few stitches and cut the threads and continue. That would secure the bobbin thread well. Good luck, I hope this helps.

    Hi Steven, to update you on the tension disks. On my machine there is no outside access to the tension disks and it is very difficult to clean in-between the disks once more than a couple threads have gotten stuck there. When opening up the machine to get access to the disks which were running out of available space to hold the thread because over time small bits of thread has wrapped around the area with fluff etc. and stuck and knotted in a way impossible to correct with a piece of card. Also, the other parts of the route that the thread takes ends up getting clogged as well which started to catch the thread not allowing for movement in either direction to break it free. This only accelerated the problem. this issue also had an additional symptom of loosening a couple of the screws meant to hold the machine together and stable. cleaning the disks and giving them a swipe with a price of card regularly while holding the foot lever in the upper most position should remove any noise, keep the lever stable and maintain consistent tension on the disks. If you, like me took this up as a relaxing hobby will agree when I say I thought it would be a stress free hobby to be creative. Unfortunately, I do sometimes forget to change the bobbin holder when going from one to the other or tell myself it's only for one thing an have made the mistakes WashyourHands is about to make by listening to someone who has advised he can use the red bobbin holder instead of the yellow dot holder saying it does not matter when I know that it clearly does matter. (read my reply below). He will only end up damaging the holder, damaging his/her work and the machine and needing to spend more money to fix it. Hope you guys are ok and safe over in Canada.

    Hi, I've only just now discovered your channel and have subscribed. Like you sewing and embroidery is a hobby which I have thrown myself into and hope to one day be able to afford to get the MC15000. I currently have a MC9900 which like the mc15000 converts from sewing machine to embroidery. If you are not familiar with the mc9900, it is very much a grandparent of the mc15000. I would like to ask you if you have resolved the issue that you have demonstrated in this video because I have come across something very similar to what you are experiencing. Would I be right if I said that it starts making that noise and upon checking you find the thread has somehow come away from the uptake lever? If so, have you encountered the same noise and found the thread still hooked into the uptake lever? Also would I be right in saying that if you don't stop the machine in time,, but before it gets tangled enough to force the bobbin holder around, the top thread gathers under the plate and does not come back up through before it does the next stitch and you need to cut the threads under the stabiliser in order to remove the hoop from the machine, or release the plate and remove the design with the plate still stuck to he design. I've only been embroidering for a year with my machine but have noticed that some threads, if not properly threaded with the right needle and a spool net (like metallic thread) can come out of the uptake lever or start to gather in places around the tension system which will either cause the bunching and jamming at plate and bobbin holder level or the thread will break because the thread has gathered into a small ball. I've always rethreaded the machine and it continues to work ok until the problem happens again. I have found that the speed of the machine can often compensate for the the thread if I reduce the speed. Because I have always thought this to be user error because I should be using a different needle or I should be using a net to prevent the kinks in the thread from developing. A few days ago , I had just finished doing some FSL for Christmas and was happy with the machines flawless stitch out. However, when I went back to the machine yesterday, it refuses the do embroidery displaying the same issue you have. In my efforts to get the machine rethreaded etc. (it always looked like it was threaded correctly when I checked but rethreaded anyway) I noticed that once I had threaded the needle there was no tension until I lowered the foot which is normal, but If I tug on the thread the tension gives and the thread passes through with little resistance. To confirm my suspicions, I ran the embroidery program by holding the thread in between my fingers for tension and found that it was stitching the design perfectly until I let go of the thread at which point I would get the noise and the thread gathering under the plate. I also noticed that the top thread was more evident on the underside of the design which is not normal and in sewing mode would direct me to the tension. Call me crazy but I think the problem may be the tension disk. My next step is to try and get the tension disk replaced to see if this is indeed what is causing the problem. If any of this makes any sense to you, I would be very grateful for your advise and opinion. Any advice that would save a trip to a service shop would half way across London would be most appreciated. , Thanks.

      Everything you said is true nd I have experienced it...if you watch more of my videos about this problem you will see what steps I have taken. The bottom line is that Janome could not fix the problem and gave me very little help with it. My dealer actually gave me a new machine. Please watch the other videos in this series and you might get some tips but the bottom line is that you will probably have to take it in for repair and even that might not fix the problem (unfortunately).

    • @jofrangoullides3281
      @jofrangoullides3281 4 года назад

      @@theidiotquilter I will be taking my machine in for a service. Regarding the issue we've experienced, I actually fixed the problem myself after identifying that it was the tension discs that were at fault. Because they are hidden in the machine it is more difficult to clean them and of course fibres will get stuck in the discs as well as pieces of thread that have somehow gotten stuck and then further attracting more. I realised they were the issue by threading the machine while raising the foot to it's highest position and opening the disks to their max. I found that put a stop to the problem so now I just need to find a way to get to the disks to give them a clean or replace them if necessary. I have to admit though, if it was not for your videos I would have continued to think it was me that was the problem and not the machine. Not sure if they even check the tension disks when they service but they work fine normal thread for sewing it's only when you hit the fast embroidery or when the speed changes in embroidery that the thread slips out the disks probably because they are somehow blocked. I'll keep you posted because if I'm right, The issue will probably pop up again over time if they are not cleaned. And yes Janome would only recommend a service which wouldn't help if they don;t check embroidery and tension disks. If your dealer still has your old machine, get them to check the disks and see what happens. loving the videos by the way. Jo.

Change thread, bought a $500 table to stabilize it, invested in lots of yellow dots, red dots bobbins, changed needle, rethreaded left to right, right to left, changed tension, tried every stabilizer out there, etc., This is NOT an operator issue. It is a MACHINE issue. Who on this earth makes a $12,000 machine and then tells the operator it's not working because of them? My old 1968 Kenmore still sews beautifuly after 55 years. Steve, you mentioned at the beginning, I think, that many Janome machines were having this problem? I’m quite a beginner & have a Janome I purchased 10 years ago and after making many masks with it, realized that if I wanted to really get into quilting I’d have to purchase a better machine. With the stimulus money from the US government (I live in Missouri), I researched Janomes and spoke with the owner (I think) of the sewing machine store I use (they’ve been in business since 1926 & sell mostly Janome) and purchased a new Memory Craft 6700P (partly because of your delightful video of the same machine!) for $2000 off the retail price. I haven’t unboxed it yet-my darling husband is building me a custom sewing table to my drafted specifications, but when I do I’m worried I’ll have the same problems now. ☹️ I have no idea how to embroidery, or really quilt for that matter, as all I’ve done has been basic sewing. I started having sort of similar issues with my old Janome with threads getting caught in the bobbin box, nests on the back of the fabric, needles bending & breaking, etc. I then did research on needles and thread. My old machine is not heavy duty, for sure, but I think my problems were related to user error. Maybe they have a book called Sewing for Dummies?! LOL I really hope you get the issues with your awesome 14000 embroidery machine resolved soon! That must be SO frustrating! I hope also that you have never had problems with your 6700P! 😉 I enjoy your videos very much! Thank you & best of luck! Be sure to let us know if you get the issue resolved! 😁

      HI Theresa the 6700P is a good machine- My husband uses it all the time now (I gave it to him when I bought my other machines) and he has had absolutely no problems with it. I have my 15000 fixed and we figured out the problem and I am about to upload a video about this so please watch it when it comes available- I think the information I have included in that video will make you feel a little more at ease with your sewing adventure- at least I hope so! Thanks for commenting.

      Steven Bland Thanks so much, Steve-that is very reassuring! I watched the video where you figured out the problem with your 15000. Glad that was sorted 😁 I still haven’t even used my 6700P. I drew up plans for a sewing table (my sewing area is also my home office, so I had to be creative and maximize space as well as function), and my husband is going to be building it. I can’t wait to get it set up on a new table so I can finally sit in front of it and look at it and say, “Now what do I do?” LOL I’ll probably watch your video again-you made it look so easy!! 😄

    Stupid question. How do you tell when timing is off?

    • @theidiotquilter
      @theidiotquilter  4 года назад

      Not a stupid question- actually a very important one- you will know when your thread breaks constantly and if your needle jams into your bobbin case (the noise will be horrible); you should have your machine tuned up and cleaned professional once a year to avoid that problem.

      Steven Bland they told me every two years It does break thread a fair amount. Literally just got it back from embroidering unit jumped off track

    I hate my Janome 15000. Works great in sewing mode but when I quilt in the hoop the stitches on back of quilt are awful. Shop says there is nothing wrong. I’m like you if I didn’t pay so much for it I would throw it out the window

    Perhaps it’s time for a class action lawsuit? I’m so tired of driving two hours (both ways) to my shop for my 15000. It’s headed back to New Jersey yet again. I have 4 Janome machines.

    Just curious, did your shop test the embroidery before you picked it up after being "repaired"? And if they did and it worked there did you use the exact kind of bobbin and bobbin thread, upper embroidery thread and needle.

    • @theidiotquilter
      @theidiotquilter  4 года назад

      No I did not because the shop is only doing curbside service right now.

      Mine did. It crashed on him too. Only in embroidery mode. Brought it home, used the same bobbins, same thread, changed nothing on machine. It didn't even make it all the way through the first design. And it won't. This has been going on since I purchased this machine. Had it for 9 months, it's been replaced TWICE. Still crashing on embroidery. Breaks the needle. ONE needle breakage shot up at my eye and just missed my eye by a hair! It landed in the corner of my eye near my nose! I gave up.

      I am so glad I found this video. I have had my 15000 for just under two years as well and have been unhappy with it right from the start. It went back for repairs before the year was up and not sure what they did but it was covered under warranty. Embroidery tension is awful and stitches don’t look like nice even stitch especially on underside. The bobbin rattles and sounds like it’s going to pop out. I have continual issues with birds nesting especially with satin stitching. I am so frustrated, I too want to throw it out the window. I am going to try another dealer for repairs as I purchased in Alberta but trying a repair in B.C. Am hoping for good results but starting to have my doubts. I guess it’s back to my much cheaper singer embroidery machine......so not fair!! If you know of a better machine, I am interested to know. Hopefully you will have some luck from your email.

    Had the same problem this week. I have a 15000 V2 upgraded to a V3, I was told by Janome UK there are two yellow dot bobbin cases for the 15000, one for the quiltmaker V3 and a different one for the earlier models. It seems I bought the Quiltmaker bobbin case from a dealer, and I should have bought a different one, but the dealer didn’t offer an alternative. The one for my machine is part no 8466527000 the one for the newer V3 Quiltmaker is 846652607. It’s thought that I bought the wrong one.

      That is news to me- my dealer never said there was a different bobbin between the two versions. Doesn't matter now for me because I got rig of the 15000 and bought an M7 and a 550E. Thanks for the information however.
