As a High School Football head coach/offensive coordinator and Shanahan fan…this was awesome! I’ve always tried to study these coaches- so this is GOLD to me!
Man seeing football from a perspective like this is crazy. All the work and info that goes into the week preparing for each game, freaking sick man! Great content! Hopefully you keep making it for years to come!
Kurt I'm a european fan for years and I've done pretty good in madden franchises the last decade. But these insights are just next level man absolutely love your channel! Keep going my guy
ive been a football fan for a long time but just this year i really started nerding out on it and trying to learn more about the game and kurt has been a godsend for helping me do that the way he breaks down game clips and explains the game through madden makes it so much easier to understand ive really been diggin his videos man
Absolutely love this content. 💯 And the fact Madden is refined enough to allow nuanced concepts, plays and player skills to translate into its gameplay is amazing. just Kurt, careful of the audio levels with some of the SFX. Distractingly loud.
This was really awesome. I think I got like 65% of what you said. I’d love to see how McDaniel’s scheme compares to Shanahan’s at some point boss. Great content keep it up ol son
This is the exact type of video I’ve been looking for. So helpful for madden but also just for football knowledge in general. I’ve always been a defensive mindset kind of guy so any help on offense is appreciated. Thanks for the video, Kurt!
You're videos are super underrated. Using madden to explain these concepts helps a lot for me as someone who has played Madden and the Ncaa games since I was around 6 years old.
It's been so great seeing you continue to share your knowledge of the game and grow with your online presence after seeing you part ways with the Packers. Keep it up, love all your content 👍 -Lifetime Packers fan #GoPackGo
This is beyond amazing to watch. Thank you so much, Kurt! I've read Pat Kirwan's helpful "take your eye off the ball" books, but these videos really take my understanding of playcalling to a different level
I'm a highschool football freshman QB and this is the type of thing I would love to learn. Offensive plays and how to make / when to call them. Great vid btw!
Awesome video! Totally unique perspective that's just nowhere else! For a small tid bit of feedback that totally doesn't affect much, the page turning audio was slightly too loud in comparison with the rest of the audio. Keep up the great work!
dope seeing someone who i don’t wanna say knows what they’re talking about, but you just have experience… most pro madden players know the basics of formations and personnel, you take it to the next level and really explain it very well for those who wouldn’t know any of this
You have one of the coolest and most interesting channels out there and I hope you blow up on a huge level. Really cool having madden and football broken down by a pro for the more common fan. Thanks!
As a former cfb player and top 100 mcs player, this video provided great insight on how games are called in real life and not just running meta cheese. Really shows average madden joes the mindset of an offensive coordinator dialing it up.
Insane breakdown, definitely need more classes before I understand the other 50% of the play calls, but great visualization with Madden. NFL game sense IQ is wildly overlooked by the average viewer. Keep up the great content man
This is such a thorough video, not just from a Madden perspective, but from a football insight perspective. Very insightful for the real life game and an amazing breakdown. Big fan of your work @kurtbenkert
Hey Kurt! I just used the plays in madden and I destroyed the other team. I was wondering if maybe u could explain a little to me about what some of the terminology means?Clamp, Larry etc
Hi Kurt. I really like what you're doing here since though I never played or coached, I'm kind of an X's and O's geek. One humble request, I wonder if you'd mind doing a video similar to this, but just showing what a call sheet looks like and explain how it's put together. Because I generally get what you're saying but much of it goes over my head, especially the strategy, play breakdowns, pre-snap reads, etc. I'm having a tough time following. Maybe do a deeper dive into the strategy you're talking about here.
bro!!!! this might be the only human on you tube not getting any hate in comments!!! its so relieving!! I'm a hockey guy trying football! keep up the contect!
8:45 I read this as the dig being the correct read. S and LB bite to the outside, corner stays flat. Showing outside leverage wanted. The LB bailing outside with the safety shows me there will be an opening in the middle of the field. You check your eyes to the other LB to make sure he isnt hitting a Tampa 2 hole and then you just fire it in there. Interested to know why you specifically went to the RB there?
Great content! It’s great to see the mindset in playcalling like this. I watch all of your videos on the different platforms. Keep the videos coming. It’s greatly appreciated, man!
Okay so I would legit buy this off you or something like this. I know you've got the "Real Football" guide, which I'm considering purchasing once I'm done pissing money away on my doctorate later next year, but just a legit-looking call sheet - or even better a real one (though I know that's a precious resource, as you alluded to at the end of the video) - would be a cool thing to have and show off to people.
There's so much going on every play. Too often we get stuck watching what goes on on the field when coaches/coordinators are battling it out on the sidelines as well.
Wish Madden had a "call sheet" we could go off of, for me I go thru a playbook and "favorite" plays so that way I have them right there in that tab ready to go and I don't have to look for them
You would think they would've added a 'call sheet builder' by now so you can have your situational plays and organize them how you want, like a real call sheet But this is Madden we're talking about of course...
This was one of the best videos ever as a competition player myself I make my own call sheets as well I coached at the 5A high school level for 7 years and the guys in my few leagues think I’m crazy and take it way to serious but I’ll take the super bowls every time make more of these sir please and thank you
First of all, LOVE your insight Kurt! The problem is that Madden is so arcadey and unrealistic you cannot map a real playbook onto its plays. I gotta be honest, as a casual fan 90% of your terminology went right over my head in terms of your own play calls and strategies, but the way Madden names the plays is so simplistic, and the game play not physics based at all, so good on you for exposing the horrible weakness of Madden and its AI. They say "it's in the game" but as you've clearly demonstrated Kurt, it isn't. The game should force you to think like a real NFL playcaller, but it doesn't. I could just choose random defensive plays (which I basically did) and still have a top-ranked defense, it was clear to me that no actual strategical game-planning skill is required, it's all how fast can you flick a stick.
Got me a PS5 last week and first thing I bought was Madden 24, I really like watching it on TV and was eager to play Franchise Mode with the Cowboys, during my few games I was like WTF is this haha, so complex. But after watching a couple of your videos I feel like I'm starting to understand how to pass the ball and play efficiently on the Red Zone. Thank a ton! I'm ready to go for it on Ultimate Team haha!
Where do you get these call sheets? Can you post a picture of what they look like so we can see what the coach actually sees and is reading off of in-game?
Kurt, love your content; do you think that with all of your football knowledge, you would be able to beat Henry or JonBeast at Madden, or is Madden still not realistic enough yet where football knowledge will trump overpowered plays, animations, and poor football gameplay (zone principles, pass protection rules, etc.)
Video idea, show us some unconventional defenses, disguised, hybrids, a few years back when i still played madden I had an awesome Double Robber defensive play I want you to look at if you have time. It was disguised really well and looked like a flat out Cover 4 pre snap worried about the deep ball. Both safeties were the robber in hook curls, 2 outside CBs were in Deep Zones making it a Cover 2. Than the front 7 would be assigned to whatever. A couple curl flats and hook curls and maybe a blitzer. The only weakness was really deep middle of the field but post snap the QB User would be in really bad shape if he attacked with underneath play that beats Cover 4.
How are the concept names chosen? Like Chevy and Ninja. Is it word association? Thanks a million for this content. I’ve always been interested in the call sheets
We have taken all of the feedback on the audio and made the right adjustments for the next video, Thanks guys!
I picked u up on madden and your madden player threw 36 picks in 1 season…..
How long did you play in the nfl?
As a non American trying to get into the tactics, that was super interesting, thanks a lot.
