For some reason I think that sounds more tolerable to the ear than the other 853/960 hz tone. I know weather radios use it, but cell phones, TV, and radio use the combo tone. I would think the 1050 tone would catch people’s attention just fine if we got rid of/banned the other tone. Musically it’s one note versus two notes rubbing close together creating a major second, which itself sounds dissonant, almost like tritones and minor seconds. I know fire alarms have some settings with either one tone or two tones together. One tome is good enough I think lol.
This is for NOAA All Hazzards (NOAA Weather Radio) they developed the SAME code and the FCC yoinked it the tone was for compatibility with older radios that activated to it (no data was in it so it was for every alert) the tone for EAS was taken from EBS as a legacy thing (so everyone knew to pay attention as it’s just EBS with new tones and a new name or I don’t know)
