I used watch Sam promote that service years ago when he had a couple of thousand subs, but he also used to work on his 33.4 in the driveway and complaining about his neighbours, the good old days
Im a Heavy equipment mechanic in America, AMERICANS LOVE THESE VIDEOS, THE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND TOOLS ARE SO UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT, FLEA MARKETS AND STORE LIKE THIS ARE SO COOL.
I’m a carpenter living in the USA. I love these old shops videos of these tool stores. Those made in Japan makita tools are worth big money here. And they are better quality tools we buy here. Those old hand planes and chisels we can’t get those around here. Those would save us so much time! Keep posting these videos been a long time follower even before you moved to Japan.
The tool shown at 9:36 is an antique "Chalk box" but it looks like it used more like pencil dust. you put the line end at one point, drag the line though the "chalk" and sting it out to a second point. pull it taught and let it snap back and it leaves a nice straight line.
2:44 Yellow tub is filled with just big bits, 1st one is a Tap, 2nd is a drill bit/debut, 3rd is an end mill say you want to shape a cut out of your cage to lay a bar to give it more support and weldable contact area. 4th is an Annular cutter, so you have less pressure on the theworkpiecee and cuts faster as it only cuts the outer ring, The blue tub is full of dies, as I can see. The Green tub is similar to the first. Winches are great for lifting engines also, lift/drop and roll the chassis
13:50 JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) Amazon Japan has the Lobster tools listings as Lobtex tools. I am assuming it to be easier to find and not get loaded with seafood listings. Love these type of tool videos, keep them coming 🤙
Thanks for sharing, this type of video is very interesting to me. Regarding the sockets, those flat black sockets are used for impact drivers and air ratchets. The ones that are chrome are for handheld ratchets. I do like using the old hand tools as often times the steel was better. Some tools in my box were my fathers.
@ 3:15 Daiki grabs a die. Now he just needs a key. Sorry, dad jokes. You definitely need to do more like these, it's cool to see other things we don't get to see elsewhere.
Your commented walkthroughs are interesting to watch, for the most of us it’s the other side of the world and we’re curious about it what it’s like there ❤ by the way the Makitas ( like Angle Grinder)you shown in the 80 bucks used price range, is the local price in Germany for new Makita without battery and charger mostly. Depending on specific model naturally
As I have pointed out in the past (not shaiming any one for not being in the knowing), that is a rimer, it's to make precise holes (down to ,01mm), it also makes for a finer hole (wall). It's good with a (table) lathe, for making "bult" pivot/joints "holes" and then lathing the bult for the desired clearense.
I'm not a car person, too much traffic and insurance prices are wild in the UK for anything remotely interesting. I do like bikes and touring and working on them is part of that. Next Japan trip I'll hit the tool stores again and pick up a few bits, some of those milling vices look like great pickups.
Wow, that store is actually really outstanding. (As for chisels and block planes, probably just ask someone older how to do it if you want to do a little woodworking. :) )
Info... if you have the Super Damper on an RB Crank you want be able to fit the Impact Socket onto the Crank bolt you need to trim it down or use an non impact Socket... been there done that just letting you know 👍🏻
Yeah - this is cool - the Wood planes got me fired up. Japan has some of the best wood working tools in the world. Thanks for showing these shops. I bet some of the tool shops out in the sticks have some really old, classic tools. Love this s**t. Electrical Engineer by day trade, wood worker at night - and those wood wooking tools give me the wood ;)
100% you should take some time to look some of those tools up and not just for yourself. That thing you asked about at 4:57 turns out to be an electromagnetic chuck. I assume it would shorten the time for the machine operator when changing bits. I thought that was kinda cool because Ive never heard of it, maybe other people might find it interesting as well. I love your videos because I'm learning so much lol
Those Snap-On boxes would bring $900-$1000 USD here in the states on marketplace depending on condition. Japan has combination of tarrifs and protection laws to keep certain domestic mfgring competitive, tools being one. From my experience in the 90s when I was stationed in Oki, Japanese people in trade based industries are quite (rightfully) proud of their country as well and support by proudly buying and owning tools built there. People like that are a dying breed here in USA.... usually its your older techs.... lots of younger trades people just can't get enough Hobo Freight.....
The most important quality of most tools is that someone can afford them unfortunately. Even I buy harbor freight then if I use it enough to break I'll buy a real version, most people don't need to
that "fishing line" (9:35min) looks like may be a chalk line tool?? .....add chalk into the "ash tray" looking part and pull the line to coat it in chalk...
That thing you touched on the Shelf next to the bicycle and you're like that's an acetylene torch from the 1900 show from 1860 to 1910 20/30 people use those
Could you add the location or link to this shops website? I really like the second-hand carpentry tools, I am looking forward to more of those and the pricing.
i always wondered what a brand new snap on box cost compared to here in the states my 84 epic series was alot and i can only imagine the added on price for shipping to japan
sam
Everyone like this it needs to be top comment
Let's make this happen!!
He's busy building race cars and blowing them up for us. Just rent a fast car yourself and take your brother out yourself.
Make this happen!!
I used watch Sam promote that service years ago when he had a couple of thousand subs, but he also used to work on his 33.4 in the driveway and complaining about his neighbours, the good old days
Love these vids, like most blokes I could spend hours browsing in used tool shops regardless of whether I need anything or not.
Me too.
How about checking out the Japanese Flea Market? That would be an interesting video, take the whole family with you

I love how Daiki immediately scoped the Tamiya box, someone's a model builder!
Like figurines right??? lmao

That is a sumitsubo. It uses ink chips one wets and a silk string to mark timber posts.
Awesome video as always Sammit. Yes most definitely you need to film more shops like this one it is so interesting.

These shops are amazing to see! Love to see more videos about this!
My dad was a mechanic and has, in more than one instance, bought $10k rolling tool boxes. The Snap-On tax is real. 😀

As a hobby woodworker all of those hand planes and chisels are a dream
Tamiya RC car spares box 😎.. had tamiya since early 80s
09:34 it’s for marking lines on wood for the cut.
At 10:20 I believe it was used to drink Absinthe...but I'm not sure...and yes it was a kind of 420 then!
Legend has it. Sam is still looking for a 10mm in that box

Thank you for sharing the other side of the world with us
These thrifting-tool vids are always fun to watch from the States!
Tamiya box is for mini4WD cars man. The rabbit hole is deep if you look at mini4WD development on youtube in 2024.
Used tool stores, new tool stores, I'll watch 'em. Interesting to see what can be had in Japan.

Wow, that store is actually really outstanding. (As for chisels and block planes, probably just ask someone older how to do it if you want to do a little woodworking. :) )
In the tool nerd communities it’s fairly well known the jdm makita is made in Japan where the globally sold products are Chinese of origin.
6:50 From left to right: Kamen Order Kaixa, Kamen Rider Horobi, Is, Kamen Rider Zero One, Kamen Rider Blade

The 10mm is the finding Waldo of sockets lol
Info... if you have the Super Damper on an RB Crank you want be able to fit the Impact Socket onto the Crank bolt you need to trim it down or use an non impact Socket... been there done that just letting you know 👍🏻
The tool you thought for fishing is a 墨つぼ Sumitsubo which is a inkt pot , inkt line for carpentry.
10:10 Maybe it's a Alembic to make distilled drinks or a weird science thing
OMG I want that tamyia box!!!

I don't know why used tool shops aren't a thing over here in North America.
They are... there are lots of used tool shops if you know where to look. There are also pawn shops full of used everything...
Someone tried one in my town....lasted 9 months, not sure why, it always had inventory and had some great deals.
Love these videos, keep it up ❤

I wish we had shops like that here in the states.
Super interesting this format

That thing you touched on the Shelf next to the bicycle and you're like that's an acetylene torch from the 1900 show from 1860 to 1910 20/30 people use those
Those BIG sockets are for tractor trailers and heavy equipment
I find the tool stores interesting and also that store is playing some banger songs
Was pissing myself laughing when you were searching for a ten ml socket 🤣🤣🤣
