Those prices ain't cheap. That's about right. Yes it might be a bit cheaper there but once you send a bike over it'll cost more than market value all up.
The era of cheap JDM grey bikes ended 2 decades ago not due to the bike prices that have gone up loads but shipping rates. They'd load containers up with 1-2 year old 400cc 4 cylinder bikes and send them to the Uk and make a killing. I had a 1990 VFR 400R NC30 when I was 19 and loved that thing but being abroad for much of the time I had to sell it so it would be used and not gum up the carbs.
You can still ship a ton of bikes in the same space (and price) as a two car container tho. The margins would have to be much more than cars. I think it's more because bike sales have just been slowing in general, and new 400cc sportsbike market isn't what it used to be back in the 'Grey Import' days. I wanted a 'baby blade', zx4r or RVF400 so badly in the late 90's / early 2000's when I wasn't old enough for the full license. There were at least one dealership that I remember dedicated to 400's alone.. Named 'Something'-hill, memory fails me, almost feels like another lifetime ago at this point 😂

As a huge motorcycle guy I was very pleased with this ep Sam! It's crazy how different the US is compared to the rest of the world when it comes to getting faster bikes. I rode a 300cc for a couple of years and then traded that in for a 900 without needing to do anything but buy it lol. And getting a license in the first place was a cake walk. I know a few people who started on 1000s, which is absolutely nuts to me and def why we should have some regulations imo
How much does a licence cost on america? In the uk you can do direct access to ride 600cc up but costs around £1000 and you have to be min 24. A2 licence is restricted for 2yrs to 47hp min 19 then take another test at 21 Puts young people off riding with the costs and hassle
Nah Iv owned a lot of bikes and raced 1000s and most drift cars with the alignment done will hand with a litre bike at about 600-700 bhp rx7s pass 1000cc bikes cars have closed the gap these days it’s actually wild
@@robertdoyle4098 Not true at all lol. 700hp drift RX7 isn't hooking up and pulling a 4 second zero to 100mph. Let alone doing 200+ mph. If you actually were deep into motorcycles you would retract your comment lol.

The prices on the sport bikes isn't too bad, here in the States 2004-2012 gsxr600 still go anywhere from 4-8000 USD. I bought my 2006 gsxr600 brand new for $7200.... Now days they are like 12k?
Here in the States, years ago motorcycle endorsements had Classes for different bike/engine sizes. I believe they removed that restriction a while later.
safety is the absolute priority with bikes, full set of quality gear, boots and helmet is the minimum. even for your little scooter performance earlier where you nearly went down at least once in the garage... its not about skill or experience at any point. imo just generally speaking, you had the right idea quitting the scene when you went down on the gsx-r... however they are without question, super cool. just mind not to take them less seriously than nearly a full blown race car. please.
The small displacement bike are about the same price state side. But the liter bikes are dirt cheap there for that milage. I need to come back to Japan to like up another liter bike and jzx mark2!!
Sam, Diaki and yourself should invest in cbr125r's for cheap track day bikes. By cheap I bought one in Australia for $1500, 21,000kms on the clock and 12 months rego. That was my learner burner, rode it maybe 5 times then my brother bought it off me and turned it into a track bike which is competitive in the 125 class. My brother dailys a z1000 so for him to buy a 125 makes little to no logic. The mods to the cbr125r are gears, swingarm and rear wheel/tyre so 130 over the stock 100 and a stainless yoshimura exhaust. Its been dynoed and makes an impressive 15hp. yep 15! Dry weight 119kgs, wet weight as in oil and a full tank of fuel, 130kgs. Not too much more then the 12 speed mountain bike you got for christmas when you were 12.....
I am currently looking for a zzr1400 like the one you saw. That was a nice bike and let me tell you they are a performance machine. Stupid fast and very capable bikes. Good video.
That gsx250f is also called a suzuki across and they have a neat feature they have a helmet storage where the fuel tank normally sits they are also really good for getting groceries if you ever get 1
🤣 ive broken more bones in my body because of bikes than anything else but i'd still get another one tomorrow ... everyone that's owned a bike will tell you there's no greater feeling than being in total sync with a bike you know well on a road you know better , it still feels like magic when your not having to pedal it along , even at 90mph 🤣
89 gsxr slingshot with a 92-94 front fork and rear swing arm swap ,800cc big bore ,36mm Makuni flatslides and yoshimura exhaust and race cams...I just need the Japanese engine only motor for my frame
Japanese are the gods of engineering, they make the best engines in the world,no other country in the world makes motorcycles or automobiles like Japan.
You should get a two tone Daihatsu Mira, and get a junked 1000cc + bike or just a motor from a junk yard and stuff it in there. Think yiur van would flip with a bike motor.
Wow the VFR400R was not available in the United States. Would easily go for 10K here in the US. Some of the other bikes like the Kawasaki ZX-14 in the Honda CBR 1000RR was closer to us prices. It would be super interesting to see a video on the different road legal bikes that was not available to us in the US. Again a VFR400R that was not available in the US. I've only seen one here in Arizona it was owned by a military man at Luke Air Force Base. If I remember correctly he imported it when he returned from Japan.. I don't know what import fees and shipping would cost. But I'm thinking you could easily turn a good profit by shipping that bike here to the US..
Prices are fairly high compared to the UK. 2nd hand bikes in Australia were expensive when I was there (in the 1990s), but new bikes were cheaper. Aus insurance was cheap, but rego (equivalent to Uk VED) was horrendously expensive. The gt750 (a 3 cylinder 2 stroke) was quite reasonably priced.
This is why I wish I could live in Japan so I can buy the motorcycles old and/or new at the cheap or MSRP. In my country, even older motorcycles can cost like more than 10K or new ones go up to 50K+. I wish I could buy those old Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki motorcycles and keep them in Japan instead of bringing them in to my country which can cost way too much. Anyways great content!
Rebuilt my first 50cc engine yesterday. Never rebuilt any engine well not from crank up. All done with spare parts and 600degree rtv. Someone had been in there and dont think the set the timming right and it just f..ked the valves snapped them both and melted half of one into the head , piston was beat to hell. End up useing bigger Piston bore head extra . Just of another 50 . So part sunny 50 part johnway 50 . Even the valve spring were compressed by hand and 14mm spanner. Very fun very different going to do another for fun.

A2 licence is restricted for 2yrs to 47hp min 19 then take another test at 21
Puts young people off riding with the costs and hassle
Love sammit and always will 🙏🏼🫡 the fact my man can take a step back and not just focus on cars and drifting is gold 🥹always changing it up 🎉
Get a modern liter bike and you will think ecery car u drive is slow
Or don’t, and live😊
Nah Iv owned a lot of bikes and raced 1000s and most drift cars with the alignment done will hand with a litre bike at about 600-700 bhp rx7s pass 1000cc bikes cars have closed the gap these days it’s actually wild
LOL dude a 1985 1100cc is still faster 0-60mph than 90% of the cars people drift.
@@robertdoyle4098 Not true at all lol. 700hp drift RX7 isn't hooking up and pulling a 4 second zero to 100mph. Let alone doing 200+ mph. You might meet your match but the car would have to be on drag radials and actually hook up and top out. 30 year old bikes tuned up still smoke newer bikes as well..some still hold world records. If you actually were deep into motorcycles you would retract your comment lol.
this is true lol i have a low 10sec xr6t but my gen 4 zx10r is my adrenaline my harley rarely moves nothing like ripping it on a litre bike with all electronic crap switched off i currently started drag racing it rather than my car
More please! Motorcycles are my first love, then I got into cars. Btw I wish they still made two strokes, they're so awesome
those prices are actually pretty high but they look well looked after compared to the bikes on marketplace in australia
Oh ya LFG this is what I've waited for Sam buddy.
Honda VFR NC30 400 V4 what a bike! I had one back in 2000. And The Dax - still got mine owned it almost 20 years - never sell it, so much fun and cheap to run.
Red Baron also runs a bunch of accommodation sites intended for motocyclists doing a tour, but I think bicyclists can also use them
The prices on the sport bikes isn't too bad, here in the States 2004-2012 gsxr600 still go anywhere from 4-8000 USD. I bought my 2006 gsxr600 brand new for $7200.... Now days they are like 12k?
May being a Kamen Rider fan is the best part of this video. I wonder what her favorite shows were?
Here in the States, years ago motorcycle endorsements had Classes for different bike/engine sizes. I believe they removed that restriction a while later.
prob to help with over poulation lol
😮❤I think this is the time sam, you have to buy one for this channel😂
In belgium we have the same licence system sadly haha but would be nice to see Sammit on a bike
safety is the absolute priority with bikes, full set of quality gear, boots and helmet is the minimum. even for your little scooter performance earlier where you nearly went down at least once in the garage... its not about skill or experience at any point. imo just generally speaking, you had the right idea quitting the scene when you went down on the gsx-r... however they are without question, super cool. just mind not to take them less seriously than nearly a full blown race car. please.
The small displacement bike are about the same price state side. But the liter bikes are dirt cheap there for that milage. I need to come back to Japan to like up another liter bike and jzx mark2!!
Bike content on Sammit channel!? LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!❤
Prices are high for motorcycles now in Japan , I bought my 96 Gsxr 1100 , 7000 miles original everything for 2k . 6 years ago .
What not to Lakes? It all good Sammy boy chill❤😂
VFR400 has to be one of the best sounding bikes
Most of the VFR range sound great like the VTR1000SP1 V twin or the VFR750/800 range of V4's
@@christopherpearson1752 I do agree, however the 400 to me has a special place in my heart so I'm definitely not an impartial judge 🤣🤣🤣
I like the 750/800's (V4) much better then the V2 VF1000F I ride but then my VTR1000SP1 V2 sounds great
@@christopherpearson1752 lovely bike you ride sir, I currently ride and 03 04 zx6r but I'm definitely thinking about picking myself up an older Honda!
Also the VFR400 in the US is collectible, you can get between 10000 up to 20000 US dollars
Good video.
That Hyabusa was a great deal. Now we just have to ship it state side.
I love the taste of boss coffee, I use to buy those from the vending machines and grocery at little Tokyo in downtown LA.
That gsx250f is also called a suzuki across and they have a neat feature they have a helmet storage where the fuel tank normally sits they are also really good for getting groceries if you ever get 1
this is cool cheers sam
🤣 ive broken more bones in my body because of bikes than anything else but i'd still get another one tomorrow ... everyone that's owned a bike will tell you there's no greater feeling than being in total sync with a bike you know well on a road you know better , it still feels like magic when your not having to pedal it along , even at 90mph 🤣
I'm wondering when you'll realize that you suck at riding bikes. I know you want to be part of the cool kids, but bikes are not for you mate.
3:54 😂😂😂 now it’s all this and that I think it’s cap
Fun fact, US and Euro bicycle switch the front and rear brake lever.
Even in Australia new bikes are fairly cheap. The thing is they're a bike with a fraction of what cars have
89 gsxr slingshot with a 92-94 front fork and rear swing arm swap ,800cc big bore ,36mm Makuni flatslides and yoshimura exhaust and race cams...I just need the Japanese engine only motor for my frame
Red Baron is worldwide I worked for them in Sydney for 11 years.
So happy 12:39 you brought it up! Been asking about it for ages!! We need a pit scooter 🛴 update! Rebuild it!!
Prices are fairly high compared to the UK. 2nd hand bikes in Australia were expensive when I was there (in the 1990s), but new bikes were cheaper. Aus insurance was cheap, but rego (equivalent to Uk VED) was horrendously expensive.
The gt750 (a 3 cylinder 2 stroke) was quite reasonably priced.
if you get a cb400 that wouldve been sick in my opinion its the "JDM bike" 400cc 4 cylinder with vtec that revs to 12k rpm
I own one at the moment in uk and it is fast .and a good looking bike ,
@Crosshatch1212 sounds good as well
Yes more motorcycle content would be nice
If it's made in Japan 🇯🇵 then you can ALWAYS expect the very best 🥇🥇🇯🇵🥇🥇
May is there to make sure Sam don't buy a bike 😊 Daiki is there to referee 😊 jokes aside, nice video.
That honda vfr 400 would sell for around 18-22k in Australia
Yep
VFR nc24, 80's very old with a small front wheel. Only worth £1500 in the UK.
@@Jacky5299 Really? I will have to remember that. Of course, I'll have to pay EU import taxes..
I would love a badland tour in Yokohama, I'm not even into bikes like that but they make some crazy builds
Interesting. Red Baron owned a few delaerships here in New Zealand up until recently.
Was sad to see them go! Bought my R6 from there.
Used zx14r in the states usually around 10,000
4:58 cbr is a solid choice, I like bro 😤🫡
Sam you should do wheelies in the shop on Rudnicks moped, that thing is junk what’s the worst that could happen haha
Wow i reallylove that VFR 400
I always wanted a VFR400R or a CBR600F when I was a kid, I first saw those bikes in a 1990 exhibition and met Carl Fogerty.
I still own my Honda super four 400 ,and bandit 600 1991 and 1992 ,both well looked after and in as good condition as these n I’m in uk ,😅
44k km about 30k mile err i would say that is alot for a normal bike but a 2stroke unsless rebuilt 2 or 3 times
Really good condition for the price too
Norway has 4 diffrent motorcycle licenses AM 0-50cc… A1 50-125cc…A2 125cc-34hp…. A is everything.
just casually skips the ducati
Probably doesn't know what they are
I have a 99 gsf 600s. abosolutly love the bike!
Walked right past a Vmax 1700? Nice!
How do you sort out importing for bike from Japan?
They are cheaper than here is the us. That 14r is about an 8000$ bike in the states.
Moto Guzzi has been around in the United States for a long time. The older ones were similar to the b.m.w.'s
