Not long enough, fantastic Ray, last canoed the trip you've shown in 91' Harry Wheelan and I, fog came in during the last couple of hours and Harry took advantage by asking a fisherman on the rocks if we had reached Wales in a thick Limerick accent. Once in a canoe, once by Sea kayak and once by sail.
What a fantastic journey! A lovely film Ray and informative too - it shows us what's possible with the correct planning and the right conditions. Inspiring! 😁👍
Many thanks! In sea kayak I would have set out an hour later to allow Penrhyn Mawr to start running. Then play time in the race. On a day like that it is great in sea kayak but to be honest it would have been alright in canoe but we were being cautious: I was taking into account sea temperature if there was an incident. Also drysuits incase of a problem. As ever thanks and thanks for the coffees. Most appreciated.
Cracking Ray, good to see Lukey on the water! For those that go on Rays courses, this is how he maintains his experience, there's more to coaching than just delivery
@@RayGoodwinCanoe The long planning phase is an important but also beautiful part of the adventure. Waiting for the right parameters is a bit like waiting for the christ child.😀
Really enjoyable watch Ray thank you, I had to smile at the lunchtime comment of "oh my knees" for me it's a similar landing rite of "oh my ankles" keep 'em coming :)
Ray that was a pure treat to see my home island from a new perspective and inspire me to up my paddling capabilities and experience to do the same trip one day. Absolutely love the style of this video Ray. Carys x
I always remember Dave taking a safety course on the Tryweryn where he had us body surfing on the cushion of water near the Irish Bridge (?) Lovely video Ray.
Glad you enjoyed it! It is an wonderful place and we had perfect conditions. I have been there in sea kayak when it has been very challenging but we picked our day well. Thanks for commenting.
Sounds great we should start plotting! PS the picture of the razorbill is one of your's. Meant to ask you beforehand but forgot in all the editing head muddling.
What an amazing adventure. The right place at the right time? Thanks so much for sharing, this is inspirational stuff. Seeing "Dream" from that angle makes me doubt I ever did it! It's a pity there weren't climbers there to show the sheer scale of the place. It's also really nice to see you doing something for yourself for a change.
Cracking stuff Ray, got to say the sea looked so turquoise in colour, beautiful. I do really appreciate the effort you must put into your filming and the perspectives you get, really makes it feel like I’m there.
That just looks stunning, fantastic video and I enjoyed the discussion of planning and safety and also the pictures of the birds! Looking forward to more videos of adventures to inspire me
Lovely trips that ray, did it in a sea kayak years ago. (4* sea )The tidal race ate most of our group in conditions you described. Me and a friend escaped it and listened to the screams, 😂
I am just imagining the carnage! I presume all were recovered in due course and so I am gently smiling at the thought of it all. Yep it can get very interesting.
I knew the wind was going to be low so no for the extra power of tandem. Plus easier to film with two boats (always a consideration nowadays). Most of the big stuff I have done on the sea has been tandem.
Very enjoyable - Thank you.... A question... Do you use warp stabilisation in post production, as I noticed the canoe was not a stable as the scenery ? Thumbs up from me !
Top video Mr Goodwin, can I ask about you paddle shape, just making a laminated white water blade for the wife, do you know where I could get a profile of that blade shape? Please of course, I'm not asking you to measure up or trace anything. . . don't worry found the link in your description. doh!
I am sponsored by NRS and have used their drysuits for the last 3 years and have been very pleased. Typhoon multipart drysuit has a good reputation along with the Palm ones. If you are going for made to measure I would use Dam.
I will have a think and see if I know any decent guides. 😂 Seriously though it a trip so conditional on condition for canoe it is a rare event: I have done it in canoe with a client but we were up on Anglesey in exceptionally calm conditions, the client was very capable and we grabbed the opportunity. Done it lots in sea kayak and been out there is big conditions. Quite a place then.
@@RayGoodwinCanoe I was thinking a little closer to home. Maybe Seward or Valdez Alaska. There's an outfit in Seward that gives lessons and tours in sea kayaks. I figure that'd be a good place to start. Seward is very sheltered, the biggest hazard is the tour boat wakes.
@@philschaefer4651 sounds really good and I am sure the pictures will make me envious. Have fun and learn the tidal stuff. Now I never did get to sea kayak in that area.
@@RayGoodwinCanoe It's a pretty area, I've gone fishing there several times. Granted it's not much closer to home. 10 hour drive to Seward, vs a 10 hour flight to UK.
Yes you do. Best to wash down in fresh water and then re oil. Salt is very damaging. I should really do the wood parts of the canoe as well but rarely get around to that. Yep it was a great trip.
Thanks for the sub! I use the Railblaza Camera Boom 600 with their Star-Port mounts fixed to bow and stern plates of the canoe. I run para cord directly from the GoPro to the canoe in case the boom joints come loose or it all breaks in a capsize: I would regard the cord connection as critical so as not to lose the expensive GoPro (it has come lose on two occasions due to running through branches overhanging the water). www.railblaza.co.uk/electronics/cameras/railblaza-r-lock-camera-boom-600.html
Thanks for taking me along. That was beautiful. Take care
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks

I would have loved to see the fisherman's reaction. Priceless.
I subscribed for a long time but today I clicked on the bell.😎👌
Thank you for that.

Yep I still have the fire to do stuff for myself. And what better company than Lukey. Thanks
Enjoyed that Ray. The over falls at Penryn Mawr I think are what put me off, 40 yrs ago, of ever getting wet ever again.
I think that was about as easy as it gets. I certainly wouldn't want to swim there when it is going big.
Best video yet Ray. The personal reflections and the fact that you’re paddling with a mate.
This is one for Maya I think.
There are rumours Maya may watch one at some point in the future. Yep I am playing with the style at the moment and trying to develop ideas.
Beautiful location😎. Nice paddling👍. Greetings from Germany.
Glad you enjoyed it. It is a stunning place but needs a very careful choice of day.
@@RayGoodwinCanoe The long planning phase is an important but also beautiful part of the adventure. Waiting for the right parameters is a bit like waiting for the christ child.😀
Great contribution Ray. A good reminder that these dramatic places are accessible, you've just got to get organised.
And as we both know, you have to pick your day and conditions. Good to hear from you. Thanks

Glad you enjoyed it. Have you not been around the Stacks? We need to change that.
Nice video. Love the information you give along the way, it becomes more than just long stretches of paddling in the sea.
Thank you for that. Yep trying out a few ideas with the presentations and thought the thinking/planning would be interesting for folk.
Fabulous stuff Ray. Thanks.

You make it look so easy Ray! 😊
That is kind of you.

thank you. I would expect nothing less from Dave
This was so much fun to watch and I enjoyed the narration. Hope you post more of these types of adventures!
Thank you! Will do!
Good watch, very interesting 👍
Glad you think so! Thanks
Always a pleasure watching your video's Ray, new to canoeing, I didn't know you sat on a kneeling thwart. Cheers
Thanks David. Appreciated. Yep the kneeling thwart makes control easier from that more central position.
This is so amazing! Thank you for filming and sharing it. Such an interesting place!

Love it Ray good to sea two old salty dogs back out there :)
Love the extra inserts of the wildlife photos and old school surfing picks .
