Amazing tour. I haven’t heard about any of these books, which is Par for the course with NYRB, they print some far off stuff. It’s amazing they’re able to single handedly “revive” some obscure books which had become cult classics in certain niches. There’s so many books from them on my TBR
I liked "Jakob von Gunten" by Robert Walser. I've had some bad experiences with other NYRBs. Quirky literary footnotes, which many of these books tend to be, can be hard to enjoy. Other than quirkiness they don't have much to offer. Snicker lit.
The NYRB volumes from the US have been hit or miss in my reading, with the weird or genre works being the hits, but I’ve enjoyed most of the works from outside of Europe that I’ve read from the line. There are certainly some strange volumes. Hope you have a great week. Cheers, Jack
Got to be honest, that _Pinocchio_ cover gave me the creeps. I wish I had enjoyed _The Unknown Masterpiece_ as much as you. I think I need to reread it.
This grouping was fascinating! I need to really look into these! Thank You for the tour!
There are som fascinating avenues to travel down with NYRB, Brandon. I hope you’re well!
Cheers, Jack
Glad to see some love for Proensa! Picked it up randomly a few years ago - blew my mind and it still does to this day
I love hearing that! Was there a particular troubadour that has really stayed with you? Hope you have a great week.
Cheers, Jack
@@ramblingraconteur1616 Marcabru! So powerful.
Hope you have a good one too!
I need to get into the NYRB classics, all of these sound interesting reads.
Many of them are real treats, Duncan. I hope that you are well!
Cheers, Jack

Many of these are real gems that have stayed in my mind across the years of reading them. Hope you enjoy those you have a chance to read!
Cheers, Jack
I haven't read The Glory of the Empire, but now I want to
Oh, it’s an absolute treat, Aaron!

You’re the deep reader of Balzac, so there may be aspects you felt were weaker than I.
@@ramblingraconteur1616 Maybe I just like longer novels by Balzac where he has more time to work his magic.😁😁
