I’m convinced that the stock screw is made of butter
That screw is made of freaking CLAY... it stripped for me immediately, couldn't get it out and had to pay 10 bucks for a replacement screw kit on Amazon. Luckily the drive I bought was short and I was able to leave that screw in and use a new one, but seriously sony? This is a $500 console you can spare 25 cents on a solid screw. I would have gladly paid $500.25 for a nice screw in the set lol
If the screw is still in place, how did you manage to use another screw? If there’s one in there already
@@Kyledh12there are multiple holes for different types of ssd. Some are longer than others so sony put the holes in different sections to fit different sizes
Ahh another dose of anxiety👌 delicious. Next Video: 'How your PS5 could explode at any minute & how to fix'.
😭😭😭
Lol
All you'll need is some vinegar, a cheap post it note from amazon and the dark matter from thr orion nebula to ensure you're ps5, does not explode. Warning to not take off the sticker as this could void your warranty for your ps5.
It’s called clickbait.
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for highlighting this to people. This happened to me when I was securing the drive in place. Thankfully that was it in and it's 2TB so I shouldn't need to replace it. Just a small amount of pressure shreds the screw easily.
ye sony cheaped out on the screws here. another tip that can work believe it or not is a flat end not everytime tho.
I’ve been waiting months for this video. My screw got stripped and now I can finally use my ssd that I bought last year. Thank you for these videos.
What worked for you? I tried the duct tape trick, but no luck.
@@MojoviWrites Amazon sells the screws in a package so I used that and it worked great
@@chadzillas5180but how do you remove the stripped one?? I have the replacement but now I can’t remove the stripped original one
@@zKINGv9399psn mine was in original spot I couldn’t move it at all. So I bought the screw online and just installed it and kept the original screw that came with it in original spot. Not sure how yours is situated
@@zKINGv9399psn if it’s not on the actual board just install it. Don’t take the stripped screw off. It’s easy you just take the ssd make sure it’s lined up and put the screw in and it’s done. Follow the video
I just used a needle nose pliers lol. Gripped only the edges of the screw to prevent bending of the screw ring. Found that this method untightened it really easily too
I faced this issue a lot! I had the pretty passable screw driver but the screw was almost jammed it started losing its grip and I was almost sabotaging it. I gave up after numerous tries only for my father to remove it on his second go. I’ll pass this on to him, so we’ll be able to open this in future!
Screw extractor bits are relatively cheap and they work like a charm. You may not need it often but if you use it more than once a year, it’s worth it! Screws tend to be stripped because someone gorilla-armed it in with the wrong bit or screwdriver. Electronics screws don’t need to (and shouldn’t) be tightened with a 24v impact driver!
This.
Or just dremmel a line into the screw and flathead it
I used needle nose vicegrips on the outside of the screw and just turned them and that worked really well. But if you do this be careful to only grab the top of the screw and don't make the vicegrip too tight, you should be able to get the screw out without damaging anything
You deserve a medal thank you 🎉🎉🎉
People gotta know you don't have to screw it tight at all, it's just there to ensure it can't move away from the port. Learned the hard way with an M.2 SSD on an old PC of mine.
Right? It’s not like you’re shaking your PS5 around or using it as a yo-yo!
The problem is Sony. I just bought an ssd and have never touched this screw before. The screw was already stripped and is way too tight
@@Shalyn-ln9tusame here. Never have touched that screw before at all and it’s stripped and won’t come out
The problem is the screw is already in there tight to begin with.
@@blakeandcamp I ended up getting mine out with a little WD-40 and some needle nose pliers
To strip a screw you either have the wrong bit, excert too much force on it, catch it at a bad angle or changing the ssds way too often.
Exactly. The driver shown is far too small, at least two sizes. When a proper bit is used, you will feel *no* repeat, *no* slop between the driver and the screwhead. I also note that these are Japanese Industrial Standard screws, not Phillips, and any common screwdriver brand in the USA is not correct.
@@brettbuck7362 why doesnt sony deliver just for tgat screw a fitting driver with the console?
@@Kinsanth_ In japan they are the standard (JIS B/ISO 8764) so why send you something you already have? Besides, they delivered it complete, they aren't going to spend a lot of time considering how to make it easy to modify.
@@brettbuck7362and what size JIS screwdriver should we use ?
If you use the right bit and make sure you hold it straight you should be fine. Stick it in there and feel if it has some play or not going in all the way. This means you have the wrong size. These screws are made off softer metal, to protect your hardware from being crushed by the screw if it's tightened too much.
Nope, it’s tightened so hard that even with the right tool and technique it stripped right away.
@@headmk all of them or just yours?
@@Schapezak all
Super glue? Rubber bands? By far the easiest method is just a pair of small pliers, grip the sides of the screw and turn.
Thanks bro. Saved me
I hate when that happens with screws.
Unfortunately happened to me, use the right bit and everything but Sony just did my screw extremely tight. Ended up ordering a replacement from amazon, thankfully its on the highest setting and my SSD just requires the space below it so hopefully I can just slip that in and leave it at that
Small vice grips would work great as well..
Add a link for the screw please 🙏 0:30
YOU NOT ONLY SAVED MY STRIPPED SCREW PROBLEM WITH MY SSD PS5, BUT ALSO YOU SAVED MY MARRIAGE WITH MY 3 WIVES AS THEY ALL WERE TO LEAVE ME FOR THE REDUCED AND ALMOST FULL STORAGE OF THE PS5. NOW WE ARE ALL ABLE TO PLAY OUR GAMES WITHOUT FEAR OF LOSING STORAGE SPACE AND I AM ABLE TO FULLY IMMERSE MY LIFE INTO THE ORGIES WE HAVE NIGHTLY. THANK YOU JOHN

Definitely those native 625 GB are a complete sh*t!
Yeah mine got stripped, I just bought another spacer with a screw
TIP ....Soaking the screwdriver you may have used with superglue in acetone, or regular nail polish remover, will dissolve acrylamide based glue and restore a useful screwdriver.
This also works when you superglue fingers together... but beware acetone is very drying on skin and also has a dissolving effect on plastics/surfaces. To some extent it can get dried glue out of fabric.
Mine got extremely stripped the first time and I spent so much time trying every method I could and took it to some people even, nobody could remove it that I gave up for a while, in the end a repairman took it out relatively easily using small tweezers.
In case you’re wondering, I didn’t wanna send it to Sony after waiting so long to get it.
Any normal twizzers ?
@@swaywillow2.052 I guess they just gotta have a small enough tip to grip the tiny base of the screw visible above its holder, still won’t be that easy as it could easily slip, but with patience, a steady hand, and a few tries, it should eventually work.
@@yafi6214 I already put my ssd in I don’t have space for twizzers that’s the problem I tried super glue tape rubber bands
I feel the video is good, but it would be more helpful it you gave the correct size of screwdriver when making these videos. I installed a ssd 1tb and replaced it with a 2tb, shortly after that I had to remove it a third time to do a firmware update on the drive. I used a Phillips head 00 screwdriver, and I have never had a problem with striping heads
This nearly happened to me. That screw head is flimsy when pressure is applied. I was lucky though and did it slowly and carefully.
Thankfully I did have this problem. It's good that you have shown people some way to deal with it though.
This will save some headaches to be sure.
I feel like it’s only an issue if you’re not using the correct size Phillips head tip. If you take your time, use the right side screw driver, and don’t over tighten it, you’ll be fine!
It's not Phillips, it is JIS
@@brettbuck7362 Aren't JIS screws supposed to have a dot marking on the head? More likely it's a PH0, especially since it's on a standardized slot and not on a custom part.
@@maraz666I have a PH0 it won’t budge
You dont need to screw it tight its not going to unscrew itself.
That’s what she said
I watched this whole video for no reason since I'm never getting and SSD but the tape and rubber band was a great idea to keep on mind in case I ever need it for something else
The problem is I had the correct screwdriver and the screw just wouldn’t come out. Luckily I had all this resolved, I wish I knew the duck tape and super glue method before resorting to professional assistance.
Yep, this happened to me 2 days ago. I stripped my screw and I couldn't do anything. So I have spend around 30$ on Amazon USA to get the replacement with the right screwdriver and ship it all the way to my country.
Did you finally manage to remove it? And does it work now?
I just had this problem…
@@eliaszakarya4558 yes I was able to remove it with the right screwdriver
@@sudarsanvr did the screwdriver that came with the new screw fit?
Also using the right sized screw driver and not over tightening them will help
It's incredible, i've had this problem yesterday evening when I tried to install my new SSD, and today i've found this video witch is exactly 23 hours old :) I've tried the tape method but my screwdriver isn't quite the right type, might have to buy a set of smaller ones.
This just happened to me yesterday, the new screw is coming tomorrow
When I was installing my ssd I did notice that that screw was really soft. When tightening it, I slipped a little and chipped the + indentation and it barely took any real effort.
Yeah I dealt with this myself didn't get the screw out so I bought a replacement screw and spacer on Amazon
Hi there, thank you so very much for another video for the Playstation 5, I got my for Christmas last year and I absolutely love it so much, ever since the the Playstation 5 came out I've been watching your videos on how to look after your Playstation 5 so it lasts and lasts and lasts for long hours of game play. 😊 😊 Thank you so very much for another helpful video and Have a great day today. 😊 😊
I ended up stripping that screw, but I finally got it unscrewed by getting some small tweezers and putting one section of it inside the screw as if it were a flathead screwdriver and I got it to turn, so I finished unscrewing it with the small phillips head screwdriver.
Thank you very much for acknowledging this very real problem 😢 It happened to me but luckily my mom's partner was around and applied extra force to remove the damn screw 😂😅 Without him I wouldn't have installed the SSD... Now I've never dared to open that section again, since we left the screw in pretty bad shape, but anyway I doubt I'll ever have the need to reinstall another SSD, my PS5 is working fine after all. Thanks!
Very helpful, don't have a PS5 but this happened to a PCIE sound card of mine, after I realized I don't need a sound card.
Facts. Pliers.
It literally came like this btw I didn't touch it😭
Very good idea! The glue in the stripped screw I mean. I've had plenty of stripped screws and this is frankly genius! Another great vid.
Main culprit of ps5 f up is trying to clean it. Removing the fan plug is a pain in the ass and could be broken real easy. Suggestion for next vid! I want royalties
0:05 I need help with the first screw
“Apply the super glue to the end of the screwdriver itself” then proceeds to put it in the screw 🤣
Just got the same screwdriver kit from amazon. Haven’t stripped the screw but can’t even unscrew it
Blu tack (don't know if you Americans call it something else) can be useful to stick to the screw and try to twist it without a screwdriver. Although not as affected as others but if it's not too bad it can avoid the risk of slipping with the screwdriver
I stripped screws tying to replace my switch shell, This might be helpful
None of the solutions worked down to the last one glue
Bird beak pylers.
Thank you so much
What is the correct size screwdriver for the screw with the issue? I bought a screwdriver set recently specifically for the ps5 but none of them seem to fit inside the screw.
Or you can simply go the fastest way which is just use pliers...
I don't even see any problem in this situation.
Sony definitely needs to use a better screw, as I nearly had mine strip while trying to get it out.
Needle nose plyers may work though it's a slow process
Alle Speichererweiterungen die kleiner als 2TB sind lohnen sich langfristig ohnehin nicht
Trying to unscrew that silver screw possessions me off. Can't get it out
oh god this happened to me, and I tried all of the ones yo mention, had to take the whole thing to a computer repair workshop where they finally remove it and even gave me a replacement screw
It happened to me. It's supposed to be a new system yet the screw was stripped. I bought a machine screw from homedepot. All that glue and rubber band method did nothing.
Instead of going through all that hassle pair of vice grips locked onto the top will spin it right out of there no problem throw it out get a new screw
Ive got a stripped screw on the fan is my ps5 gonna try these 2 see if they work 👍
I have a question, hope someone can answer me, if i cant unscrew that thing but it is still on the default spot and i buy the replacement,
Can i just install the ssd with both screws in it? Using the replacement one as intended and the other left there on thw default spot?
I use ENGINEER PZ58 Screw Removal Pliers GT from Japan. it works wonders for me😆
Or just use some quality bull nose pliers to grip the head.
Im on my 3rd dualsense, honestly they feel so good in your hand but they make you so sweaty and the buttons break and theres stick drift too
Same, when i noticed that my 3rd dualsense had stick drift i feeled like the world crashed on me. For this, i sended the last one that i bought to the store (6 days later) and sell the other 2. than i bought the Dualsense edge 3 month ago... Finally not Stick Drift anymore (The con of this was that i actually spended a lot of money just for a goddamn joystick.. sony sucks so much)
Buy a cheap precision tool set so you'll always have the proper size screwdriver.
I was able to install an SSD no problem. But my SSD stopped working correctly and I tried to format it, but the PS5 didn't recognize it anymore, so I have to format it on PC, but now I can't remove the screw. Thanks for the info.
this very thing happened to me me and i had to send my whole system back to sony. very quick turn around but very frustrating.
What kind of screwdriver 🪛 do i need for the ps5 ssd slot?
I didn't have any problems installing the SSD. Thanks for the video.
sorry, what screwdriver size did you use for the spacer screw ? It's not the same size as the cover screw (which is a standard philips 1 size).
@tomblade I tried w a 0.0 and it still there
OR dont go rough on the screw
I couldn't get my first screw out to put in my SSD in... so I went the Amazon route and got a screw and screwed that in with my SSD.
Any advice for the covers? The one small screw to initially get the PS5 cover off? I don’t even know what size screw it is?
What method is better to remove the strip screw duct tape or the rubber I need help removing mine on my ps5
I changed mine no problem no stripped screw. Yay.
How is this even an issue? You unscrew it, put your SSD in and screw it back in. I understand he’s probably used a ton of SSD’s so he unscrewed it a bunch but how does this happen to regular people?
What is the replacement screws name.......i could never find it online 😭
Thanks for the safe, this happend to me last time...
Great video. Thank you!
Good video i’m sure this helps a lot of people out and I’m not being funny but not everyone knows how to put a screw in
What kind of screw is it
I need help asap I'm upgrading my ps5 4tb ssd to an 8tb ssd but screw Is stripped & will not budge is there a way to remove the screw so i can remove the current ssd plz help thank you
It's stuck with Old SSD in it what's an easy way to remove it thank you
This literally happened to me.. Just ordered
Can we talk about how the SSD install makes my PS5 fan malfunction? It's loud now.
You probably misplaced a screw
not gonna lie, i have been forcing my self for the past 3 years to delay the purchase of a PS5 simply because i do see every often now that many micro problems they do come up on the surface and i really DONT know when it will be the right moment to buy one
maybe i have to wait for the ps5 pro i dont know
and if you are afraid that this will happen do not use force to open or a screwdriver that is too small
I put a screw in the wrong hole now I can’t get it out
I fucking hate this screw.
What can I do my ps5 stand screw hole is stripped
Can you please tell me where to get the screw for the Expansion Cover for the PlayStation 5 ?Can you please tell me where to get the screw for the Expansion Cover for the PlayStation 5 ?
or please tell me the size of the screw .
Can I just put in a new screw without removing the old stripped one?
I feel like somebody gona f up their ps5 with super glue after seeing this vid.😀
All this for a memory card is CRAZY
This almost happened to me, I was bout to be pissed lol it finally came out
Yeah thing is they tighten the ssd tightening screw and I know they say use philips 1 for both ssd lid and ssd screw but I had to use two different screwdriver sizes for each screw and the ssd tightening screw is trash quality.. its so tight that when you force it open it strips if you are not careful... great job sony
There is one big problem in this video! The screwdriver is a thing yes, yet you should remove the cover plate so the airflow can go around better on the heatsink of the Nvme Gen4 drive!
Hi John! Big fan of your channel!!! I have a question for you. I am getting to ready to buy a monitor for my PS five I would just like to ask you. How do you like your Acer predator monitor? I was thinking to pick one up the 28 inch with 4K?
Personally, I think if you want to lower a bit the Price the "Odyssey G5" is the Best for the PS5... I got it 2years ago on sale 200$ Black Friday, it Upscales 2K at 4K, 144hz and HDR (Standard)... Still not any Issues. Then you are Free To Choose.
I tired those techniques and none worked they factory tighten it so I left the orginal and bought a new screw and spacer from amazon ps should have added a extra set in the box.
Hey man do u know how mute party chat it used to be square on the ps5 and now it switches u to game chat.
I don’t understand why sony has to screw that one too tightly with cheap ass screws that strips so easily
