George’s stories had me laughing so hard! Thank you for that. Your video has brought much joy to my day! One thing I do for my husband when it is obvious he’s struggling with something, I tell him that I see him, I see he is are having a hard time, what can I do to help? Sometimes something so simple can relieve so much stress for him. Sometimes, he just needs to reconnect with me to make him feel better. It’s easy to get lost in your own head when you’re focused on a goal. I hope to see you both in more videos! I appreciate all the content you provide. ❤
Y’all are the cutest! Loved the humor in this from you two. My hubby helps by hiding all the tempting snacks. When we’re a month out and I can’t have rice cakes anymore, he hides them. Yes, rice cakes are craved that deep in prep lol
Wow! You hit it out of the ballpark with this one. I was getting teary-eyed. This is a must-see for partners of anyone prepping. You and George complement each other so well. I'm not a bodybuilder but my advice would be to watch this video :) You covered so many great tips, Loved "not to touch their food", and "sympathy cardio". I think being educated as to what your partner is going through, appreciating how hard it is, and being willing to be their rock when times get tough. I'm so happy you have George supporting you on this journey.
Aw thank you so much. I am so happy you got something out of this. I think your tip "being educated as to what your partner is going through, appreciating how hard it is, and being willing to be their rock when times get tough" is fantastic because as I read it I realize that applies no matter what journey you are on...not just bodybuilding. Thank you!
My best tip for supporting your person is to come up with date ideas that aren’t going out to eat. Like bowling, window shopping, or a black coffee or tea date. To be their advocate when they are bringing Tupperware food to work restaurant meetings. Oooh so excited for double chocolate chip!
We need to be better about non-food dates. You know we are foodies, so its hard for us to think of anything else hahaha I like your other tip too...she has brought her food to some of my work functions and they have a very hard time understanding haha
George is seriously #husbandgoals!!! lol! As a married woman in my 50s, I’m seriously impressed with his self-awareness and willingness to admit mistakes and be honest about the whole experience. Natalie, you also always display great self-awareness. You seem like a really solid couple. 💕
@@GeorgeRitchieMatthews Great job on all your support for Natalie in this very challenging sport. And it was nice to see she was able to return the favor during your athletic competitions too. I love the positive dynamic between you two.
Agree! It's so sweet to see two really amazing and self aware people that are truly committed to the relationship and to each other. Love this! He's a rock when she needs it. That's really what partnership is all about - when both people support their partners' goals.
Such a fun video. You guys nailed what it’s like to be in a relationship with a competitor. Love it. I’ll be sending Kevin this video in a few a few months to remind him of all 10 tips!
Awesome to hear from both sides of the coin. One of the ways my partner helped me push towards and accomplish my goals was to have small achievable steps. It split the big goal into steps we celebrated. One day we went bowling, another day a hike or a scuba day...all as rewards we used as motivators, healthy together time and as a symbol of an accomplishment.
I love this. Last year when my twin sister did her first prep, I also figured out ways on how to best support her and I can resonate with most of the things you and George mentioned. One thing I'd add is: take pictures on show day. From the glam up process to show day check ins to her time on stage, I documented it all. And she was so glad she had those pictures to look back on. Show days go by so so fast and most people don't remember to take any. :)
I like that one. We actually just realized when we were looking for thumbnail pics that we do not have many pictures of show day and we have almost no pictures of us together! Thank you for an awesome tip!
I love how your husband is so supportive. I'm prepping for my first competition and I've noticed my boyfriend is showing some insecurity. He's acting like he is going to be supportive but I know him, he doesn't like it. Whether he likes it or not I'm going to do this. I'm glad I'm noticing this behavior because it's showing me his true colors and maybe I'll be making a decision on the relationship soon. In the meantime I feel amazing and love the results I'm getting. Maybe I'll meet you soon, and when I do I'll give you a big hug because you are my support while I'm on this journey. Thank you 🙏☺
I love Natalie. I love George. I LOVE Natalie + George! I always enjoy your videos but I started following you right when you were posting about your trip to Puerto Rico. Then we had the California road trip and vlogmas with your vegan stories. So whenever you post a video with lots of the both of you it's always an extra special treat. This was really cool because even though I follow you, Natalie, I don't compete or know anyone who does, so all the little extras in this one are cool to hear.
I truly admire the relationship you two have created together. Well said, and something that I feel is applicable in all facets of partnerships. Thanks for sharing!

I love George!!! His support is incredible!!! What a great video idea. Something I would've loved in the past when prepping (before I had a partner) was someone to help prep my meals when I'm tired. I have a partner now so I look forward to having him help me cook when needed while i'm in this cut. And of course, I'll cook for him as I'm able and support him in his goals as a gym owner!!!

Excellent topic Natalie! Great job to both you and George. Plenty of good tips in this video. You and George would make great relationship counsellors!🙂 Keep up the great work!
I just found your channel, and I am absolutely loving all of the videos, Natalie! But I specifically am very appreciative of this video because I am in my third prep right now and I’m two weeks out and for the first time in a prep I’m actually in a relationship. And although he has done a prep before for a bodybuilding competition, he hasn’t been with anyone who has been a competitor before. So I wish I would’ve found this video in the beginning of my prep so that it could help both of us but a lot of these tips are going to be so helpful for the future.
Well made and detailed video. Totally relate hard even right now on when you’re mood toward your look goes from I love myself to what the hell am I doing lol.
I absolutely loved this video! I am new in my journey but so excited. Can you maybe do a video about the commitment to this in hours and finance? Thanks for the video, Natalie! Very informative. Can you tell us more about your planning schedule, how you plan the days/weeks as a couple? I need to learn to plan better with my husband (we work together fulltime as dancers).
I love this video! I have shared this with my person but I feel like they lack passion for the sport and don’t really want to support me through the journey in a lot of ways, do you have any tips for getting them on board? My boyfriend doesn’t have any passions, goals or dreams in his life so I feel like he doesn’t understand.
I’m sorry you are not feeling support in your journey.Maybe having fun workout date and sharing that experience together might be helpful for him to understand why you love this so much. Or taking him to a bodybuilding competition, it’s super inspiring to watch, and you can educate him on how it all works.
I feel you on this one! My husband dislikes the sport. I get it, show day can be long and boring. I’m not a fan of his hobby either. We still support each other regardless, because we love the person. Having the conversation with them about your shared relationship goals, and how you need support could really help. Even if it’s guided by a couples counselor for a session or two. Having a professional doesn’t mean anything is wrong, it means you’re serious at making it the best, just like with having a physique coach.
Thank you! You are in an interesting situation. If I look way back to when Natalie and I first met, we were very different people. We were more into having fun and just living in the moment. Neither of us really had many goals, and if anyone would have asked, we would have told you how hard we were working. I think that we both just took small steps over time and continually were inspiring each other. Day by day our goals and passions got bigger and we grew together. You might just be the first one taking a step right now and it will be impossible for your boyfriend not to be inspired by your journey. You are leading by example and that is the most powerful way to influence anyone. Keep it up!
Haaaa haaa omg when he was talking about contorting to see if you could see the tie ins had me rolling lmao When I first did that to my daughters they were so mortified and confused they didn’t even want to know the explanation they were like what do you even mean and I was whipping out the glute lineup photos 😂
Hopefully it keeps him from making all the mistakes I've made. If he plans on stealing food he will be ready with a drawer or hiding spot nearby hahaha
This would of been helpful 15 years ago 😅 I remember a guy that was....well, more the conceited ego type. But everything bothered him 🙄 I couldn't handle his personality/lifestyle. Good tips on the video.
You guys are so great! I love the sympathy cardio lol🤣 One tip I would give for anyone going through prep or anyone supporting someone going through prep is to find time to meditate regularly, even if only for a few minutes. It is easy to get caught up in all of the things we need and want to do that it all becomes so overwhelming. This is when it helps to take a moment to meditate and let your brain unwind. @youdrillthemout
Loved this video! I have never competed but have definitely dieted, and I felt so loved and seen when my partner made meals for me, but dinners that have individual ingredients that I can measure - like pasta and sauce and proteins not all mixed together, or burritos with individual parts laid out. It makes it so we can eat whatever we each want but also share the meal together, but I can track what I need to! And I’ve never tried LivBody! Fingers crossed!! (Sorry I’m a little late to this video!) @Kaylamakesokaythingssometimes
That was some great tips. I just started with a online Vegan coach. I'm in the cutting phase right now to lose body fat. I am seriously hungry some days. I went from eating tons of carbs to cutting way down. Boosting protein and fat. Changing body composition at 60!! My tip is for your person to just be there. Not saying anything and letting them vent on the hard days. Don't bring things into the house that they can't eat. Try to eat that stuff away from home. I just reposted it just in case it doesn't show back up! @rocknrobin62
Such a great video! My partner has been great and so supportive, including making sure I have Epsom salt and candles for recovery baths. @jenzveganlife
I love this video!! Amazing tips thank you so much 💖 Me and my husband are lucky enough to have been able to help each other through a prep and learned a lot during it. My tip: We supported each other by meal prepping for each other while prepping so after working long days food was ready to eat! We also helped each other by taking care of the kids needs so they didn’t feel like we were too busy for them. That is why we choose not to compete at the same time ( we learned that lesson at our first show 😂) @azddavis
I love this video idea so much!! My tip is to plan small surprises for your partner 🥰 For prep you would probably need to avoid food lol but little things like sending flowers, picking up a new trinket that you know they will like, getting coupons for a couples massage, whatever will make them smile! @xamandamae
Amazing video .. I have only competed during 2 seasons and my husband has been the best always .. and that helped a lot .. I think my tip would be for that supporter to be authentic and cared that means a lot for the one competing 🥰🥰❤❤ @angemir
This was funny and so true! It’s great that you guys did it together. My tip would be just listen, not that you need to respond sometimes we just need to get something off our chest. @Elaine.q.silva
I love this video! I am about to start my first prep and this video had a lot of great advice! I also love watching your videos, you are so happy and positive all the time. Since this is my first prep I don’t have a tip but my favorite of these ones was Natalie’s tip. @sarahdrulias_
I really enjoyed this video! My tip is to visualize yourself congratulating your partner on their win, and try to feel as if it's aready real, or affirm for their win and happiness every day! 🥰 @kriss_shaman_queen
Thank you! I like this a lot! I am a huge believer in visualizing the outcomes you want! Natalie has taught me a lot about vision boarding and day dreaming about the future.
I’m deep in improvement season and my partner makes it point to plan dates around restaurants I want to eat at for my free meals. He also knows what days those are or asks me if I want to plan a dinner around one. @aribbfit
Best tip.. MORE HUGS -- If you KNOW their love language is words do that, if it is physical touch do that, if its keeping things tidy - be more mindful of that. take the love language test it helped hubby and I so much @emylougall

It is very strange at first. I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused by this hahaha
hahaha every competitor has done this.
💜
My best tip is to help your person carry their bags/ luggage etc on show day and bring them flowers! ❤
I def support this!
Just sent this to my boyfriend!!!!! I actually laughed so hard at this!!!! SO SO true!
Hopefully it keeps him from making all the mistakes I've made. If he plans on stealing food he will be ready with a drawer or hiding spot nearby hahaha
stapppp he will never let me forget this lol
Thank you so much for sharing, hopefully he finds value in the video.
Ur hubby George is v supportive ☺️
Omg, I’m dying laughing over Rule #1. Do NOT EVER touch their food. #truth 😂
I don’t have anyone that competes but my husband competes with himself 😂 and I do all his meal preps and encouraging. 😊. Great video!
@tenapit
Thank you so much
This would of been helpful 15 years ago 😅 I remember a guy that was....well, more the conceited ego type. But everything bothered him 🙄 I couldn't handle his personality/lifestyle.
Good tips on the video.
Sometimes competitors (and friends, family, partners) just need a listening ear, not advice.
FACTS!
You guys are SOOO CUTE!!!!!! I just love your authenticity!!!!! You are just Adorable🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗 I don't want you to move back to Florida......😒😔🥺 I
💕
Follow-up question for George - did he eat that morsel of food or did he put it back? 😆
😂😂😂 don’t get him going 😅
@@NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef Fair enough! 😆😆😆
I can’t remember I was traumatized.
@@GeorgeRitchieMatthews haha 😂
Well my comment totally disappeared. Oh well I didn't even get to read the reply 🙁
I just saw it! How did that happen???...That's so weird :( Hopefully it pops back again, sometimes RUclips has problems.
Look how pretty your hair looks ❤
Loveeee u🫶🏽
You guys are so cute
Thank you so much!
This is my first look behind the scenes of body building and so far it doesn’t sound enjoyable.
I like that one!! I've been doing the non-sleep deep rest you Nidra. I try to get Natalie to do it with me...maybe you can talk her into it hahaha
This is a great tip! Thank you so much for sharing 🙌🏽
So impressed that you’re making changes at 60! Keep up the great work!
You are super inspiring 🫶🏽
Such a great video! My partner has been great and so supportive, including making sure I have Epsom salt and candles for recovery baths. @jenzveganlife
ouuuu I love that! "take notes George" lol
thats a good one!
That is why we choose not to compete at the same time ( we learned that lesson at our first show 😂) @azddavis
haha Natalie would not like it if I meal prepped for her. It would be a disaster!
@@GeorgeRitchieMatthews 😂😂
I love this video idea so much!! My tip is to plan small surprises for your partner 🥰 For prep you would probably need to avoid food lol but little things like sending flowers, picking up a new trinket that you know they will like, getting coupons for a couples massage, whatever will make them smile! @xamandamae
These are some great ideas. Thank you so much for sharing.
BEST 👏🏼 PART 👏🏼 OF 👏🏼 MY 👏🏼WEEK. ☺️🥰🥳🤍❤️
Thank you so much ❤ so happy you are here!
@@NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef- You’re welcome! Me too!! ☺️🤍💯
Amazing video .. I have only competed during 2 seasons and my husband has been the best always .. and that helped a lot .. I think my tip would be for that supporter to be authentic and cared that means a lot for the one competing 🥰🥰❤❤ @angemir
So true 🫶🏽
This was funny and so true! It’s great that you guys did it together. My tip would be just listen, not that you need to respond sometimes we just need to get something off our chest. @Elaine.q.silva
Great tip! So true.
I could improve on this. I like to talk too much and try and fix everyones problems instead of just listening.
A tip i would give is don't reflect your own insecurities on the person you're supposed to be supporting. @tweety102880
love this
so true...thats a good life skill!
I love this video! I am about to start my first prep and this video had a lot of great advice! I also love watching your videos, you are so happy and positive all the time. Since this is my first prep I don’t have a tip but my favorite of these ones was Natalie’s tip. @sarahdrulias_
Good luck on your first prep!
Good luck on your journey! First prep is the best prep🫶🏽
@@GeorgeRitchieMatthews that's awesome, I wish you guys a great season!
Love that!
@@NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef thank you!! And thanks for your videos 💪🥰
I’m deep in improvement season and my partner makes it point to plan dates around restaurants I want to eat at for my free meals. He also knows what days those are or asks me if I want to plan a dinner around one. @aribbfit
Omgosh that's sooo sweet!
It's so nice when you can enjoy restaurant trips! Those days are my favorite!
Yes! I’m vegan and he’s not so I appreciate the thoughtfulness of going to these fun vegan spots ☺️
Best tip.. MORE HUGS -- If you KNOW their love language is words do that, if it is physical touch do that, if its keeping things tidy - be more mindful of that. take the love language test it helped hubby and I so much @emylougall
I’m all about hugs!
We recently took the love language test! It’s super cool. Definitely helpful to understand each other’s love language
@@NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef my hubby is acts of service so making sure the fridge is tidy is big.. where mine is words 💓💓 give me all recognition when I do clean the fridge 😂😂
@@EmylouGall love that!
