Hi Sami, thanks for sharing. Your videos are great! Couple questions here as a friend and I recently both harvested about 5 or 6 larches each with the intention of group planting them - 1. you trim back the branches pretty tightly to the trunk, maybe I missed it but will they grow back pretty extensively on this species? 2. Have you ever repotted a group/forest planting? What is that like? Thank you for your time!
Yes the larch will grow back quickly. Some growing season you can get three or four flushes of growth. Also this was the first time I pruned them, so some of the branches just needed to be cut back to help with movement. Being a tight forest as I going for the lower branches won't be as long as they would in forest with farther spaced trees or a single tree. Each tree will need it's own space, with a tight conical shape. Well this was repotted last spring, after a year in a pot, and the roots were starting to grow together. Most stayed together as a group and I had to pull out any I wanted to move. The long a group grows together the more they will grow together and come out as one root base.
Finished pruning looks good and will make a great looking forest for you. Very nice little trunks on them.
Thanks
I have a very similar looking group I planted about 3 yrs ago. I will be using your tips to trim my trees back.
Nice work Sami.
Thanks, I'm glad I could be helpful.
That is one cool looking larch forest.
I love that pot
Glad you like it. Thanks for watching
