What is 23andMe?
Well...it's apparently a company that will look into your DNA in order to figure out hereditary health conditions as well as your ancestry! I have no idea if it's BS or not but I saw JackSepticEye used it and South Park Parodied it...so what the hell...let's give it a try. Let's see if I'm allowed to be wearing this Mario Hat!
Regardless if it's accurate it or not, it's a pretty fun thing to look into and give you some insight into your DNA.

Lazy Ninja well you can look at it this way, the big bulk of it was Chilled being Italian, so the 80% is like your exams, the other 20% is quizzes and homework. So you calling Chilled 80% Italian is you acing your exams, but not turning in the homework. So you still did pretty well
The Neanderthals were not anymore cavemen than the Homo sapiens (at the time) which bred with them. Evidence suggests they were clever, strong, and had great immune systems. It was thought that their strong immune systems transferred to the European Homo sapiens which bred with them, helping their survival immensely. So I’d say having significant Neanderthal dna is a good thing.

I've always told people I was Italian, but never mentioned that was also German, Dutch, and British.
I was looking for some Italian results to gain an understanding of mine, and I just realized I found the same Chilled that I always heard playing with Minx and I’m all like “WTFFFF”

Chilled when you consider the moors invaded the Iberian peninsula, plus the fact that Italy mixed in with everyone because of trade, you’re pretty much 100% Italian.
I mean being honest, I figured I was going to have a lot of different things from that region. I know some of my family came from Sicily...so there was definitely sex along trade routes at one point or another

it's common for Sicilians to have Middle Eastern Spanish Greek in them. after the Western Roman Empire fell Sicily was part of the Byzantine Empire as well as under Arab rule for a Time Sicily become part of Italy again until 1860 during the Italian unification that's why many Italians don't consider Sicilians as Italian and vice versa... my mom by 8% Less Italian she 72.9% Italian and if you add a parent your to your account results get updated good luck
this test doesnt go that far back you can see it list up to the early 1700 hundreds by that time the moors where well out of the iberian peninsula his guess about there being a lot of sex in Sardinia is not wrong since it was a major trade center and probably where he got a lot of his ancestry.
we're not saying he have like 60% Middle Eastern or something like that all were saying is that probably where that Middle Eastern came from. Sicilians are more of a mutt then Mainland Italian you get a random 50% from both parents. unless Italy try to do what England did and breed out non Italian DNA it's still going to be there just watered down over time. not to mention like you said trade routes and its proximity to North Africa which has a Middle Eastern influence

It's not so much surprised he has Italian in him, but the amount of Italian. On the twitter poll he made I voted for 26-50% since Chilled does like to embellish things. Though I guess this does make Rex 40%+ Italian as well.
Oh I didn't know he made a twitter poll. Yeah Chilled does exaggerate a lot. But I remember him telling Galm or someone that his parents and his four grandparents were all Italian so I wan't really surprised. And considering your first comment, you are Italian as well?

For my childhood growing up we were constantly told that we had a good bit of German in us with only some Swedish and British Isles mixed in but it's pretty much the other way around, mostly Scandinavian and British Isles with some Germanic mixed in.
But my family is about as white as fresh snow. We have a very slight amount (2%) of Cherokee within us, but the rest is all central and Northern European. (Going back 2000 years.)
My mom was adopted when she was a baby. Seeing Chilled do this gives me confidence that this could help find where she is decided from.

I did one of these too. I wasn't shocked by what I learned, but it was interesting to learn my heritage definitively, because both of my grandparents on both sides of my family were adopted. I came in pretty heavily French and Welsh, with a touch of Irish and Scandinavian, and just the tiniest pinch of German.

I've done the 23andMe test, too. I'm 21.1% Itallian, and 13.2% French and German. I'm 96.7% European. The rest is Middle Eastern and African.
Almost everyone has some African in them, since humans generally originated from Africa.
That Domino's joke brought me back to years ago when Chilled barfed on recording of Worms with Diction. I recommend as many people as possible to go watch it. Good times.

Phenotypically speaking, you are somehow middle-eastern. The "flaw" that could possibly happen could be not from your father nor your grandpa but from your ancestors prior to their move to America.
And with the Neanderthal gene, that could also be the cause.
Make sure you check your Mom's too if they considered the extrachromosomal DNA present in your system.

This is completely normal. Most people have genetic markers from a different locations, even if they believe their ancestors are entirely from one location. You can still safely call yourself Italian with certainty.

I learned I was adopted by taking the test. Came back 95% Germanic when my parents swore we were Italian. ... THEY were Italian.

I don't know how accurate 23&Me is considering I've taken both 23&Me and Ancestry and my results were different on both. I got 41% Scandinavian on Ancestry but only 5% Scandinavian on 23&Me

I've not done it yet, but I really need to. I know I'm Scots-Irish and German, going off names and my appearance. But there's so much my family doesn't know. So I'd love some solid info that says, "This is you. This is your ancestry."

I did the Ancestry test and it was pretty spot on for what I thought I was; Scottish, Irish, and Western European(pretty sure German) basically one third of each with small percentages of Scandinavian, Iberian Peninsula, and Eastern Europe. It would be interesting to see the difference between this test and the Ancestry one.
Also, "Hit me with the Ragu" should be your catch phrase.

I got the ancestry test for christmas and I was super surprised by my results lol. Definitely a mutt which I expected, just more widespread than I thought. The health part of 23AndMe interests me though.

You have a lot of Italic DNA, wow! I'm Italian, I'm a daughter of Italians and I live in Italy and I would like to do this kind of test .. My father's family is from northern Italy, where the Longobards, the Austrians and the French dominated, but my mother's family is of central Italy, the home of italic blood, so I would like to know how much Italic DNA I have .. Also it seems that no member of my family has ever left Italy and my mother's family owns land of the same places for hundreds of years, so I'm pretty curious about my DNA, I wonder if the story of my family is as boring and quiet as it seems or I could have surprises ...

well...going as far back as we can trace in my family tree..i found out that i am Irish, german, Norwegian, Swedish, and english. however there very well be some Native American too as my great great grandad married a native american woman. so that is unconfirmed as of right now. i would love to try 23andMe at some point to confirm all of this though.

my test results came back with 18% Italian and 13% Greek. what i did not expect to see in it was 1.7% Jewish and 1.2% Nigerian. lots of Sancdinavian and English too

When I saw the North African or middle Eastern, my first thought was Sicily. (And Malta). Which are now very Italian/city-state. But both used to be part of the Fatimid calliphate. And so had middle Eastern/North African influence.
