That chair is wild! Also such a small world. Your shop isn’t far south from my sister in law. She owns a seamstress shop in Cambridge. I’m in Boston in the US.
I don’t normally like busy material but I absolutely love the material you used on this. It’s a gorgeous chair. I’d have it in my sitting room in a heartbeat.
Hi I'm going to have a go at upholstering my Thomas Lloyd Sofa I've took the front panel off the arm and it was held on with long staples covered by studs my upholstery gin dosnt hold that longer staples shall I just use fir trees many thanks by the way your videos are fantastic x
Sorry for the delayed reply Lee. I use fir trees on my facings but I would say do whatever works. If you’re really stuck, send me a photo of your facing to me over on Instagram and I’ll try to help you as much as I can 👍🏻 thanks for watching!
Great video. Really enjoy your relaxed style of presentation. Going to start some upholstery projects so finding your content really helpful. Would love to see a video on how you pattern match. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience 🙏
Hi Lawrence, so glad you find the videos helpful and thank you for your kind words! We have recently launched our own online upholstery training academy if you think you’d be interested, come and have a look - www.thefaceliftacademy.com - hope to see you there 😊🙏🏻 Good luck your your upholstery projects!
Thank you for this! Very helpful in understanding how this all works. Anyone else holding your breath when he's cutting the front arm dacron? : ) Those scissors are scary! LOL!
As always GREAT MASTER !!!! CHAPEAU !!!! Nice armchair with nice fabric What impresses me about you Maestro is that I pack the fabric before nailing (I hope to make myself understood) (I don't know English) Instead you (Not just an upholsterer like me) but GREAT ARTIST does not baste the fabric but nails directly immediately !!!!! What else: CHAPEAU GREAT MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best Wishes.
Thanks, if you have never done it before, start small and work your way up. Don't take on something that will scare you away forever. Start with dining pads or something much easier. Hope that's helpful 👍📎⛏️📐✂️🧵
@@faceliftinteriors Thank you! Do you think it's possible (or worth it) to try to turn a cushioned back armchair into an upholstered back? I really hate the loose cushion... I know that's odd, but I do!
That is a absolutely beautiful chair !!! You made that look 👀 so easy !!! I wonder 💭 IF I could do that ? Should I just put the fabric over the fabric that is there ? Hmm 🤔 Your very really talented to make it look 👀 so gorgeous!!! I wish you were here to help me with this chair. My brother gave me this chair and ottoman and while it is very very cute it doesn’t go with my colors. It’s a dark red, gold and brownish color paisley not my colors at all !!! I have a grey 🛋 couch. A grey and white gingham would be cute 🥰
Hi Gabby! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind comment, it means a lot! I wouldn’t recommend going over the old fabric but you can remove the old fabric, remembering how it was attached for each piece and then copy the old fabric panels on to the new fabric. Have a watch through some of my other videos - I explain the process thoroughly in other videos 😊 I hope this helps!!
I would love to see how to pattern match. I have everything for my project. Im restoring my great grandmother’s chair that was handed down to me. I purchased a flower pattern and I’m so lost on how to match it, and/or what flower I want to use as a focal point.
Hi there! I uploaded a pattern match tutorial, you can find it here ruclips.net/video/FXQC8ELrC2g/видео.html although it is with stripes rather than floral but hopefully you can find some tips to help you for your project 😊👍🏻
This looks like a nice job of reupholstering. I just wonder if this chair is comfortable. Maybe it deceptive, but it looks like it would swallow up a person sitting on it. May I suggest that you show someone sitting on your pieces after you reupholster them? After all that really is the purpose of chairs and couches.
Another great video- I learn so much about upholstery from you. I have a chair with square arms- would you sew the profile of the arms and then pull that over the arms?
@@faceliftinteriors the cover is so threadbare I doubt I would be able to get it off without it disintegrating- The chair is old but sturdy; good bones that need a little love.
Yes I purchase it separately and just cut it to size. If you would like to see mine drop me a dm on Instagram and I can send you some 📸. Hope all is going well for you! 🧵📐✂️📎⛏️
That’s really kind of you, thank you! I did recently upload a pattern match video with a stripe, hopefully you find it helpful! ruclips.net/video/FXQC8ELrC2g/видео.html
Hi Gemma, I'm really sorry for the delayed reply - I didnt get a notification for your comment. I try to remove a lot of them but if you are able to leave some in without them causing any issues, then I leave them in. They can also be hammered down. Thank you for watching my videos, its really appreciated!
beautiful work. Love this chair. Another really excellent video. Only thing is that I'm not 100% clear on how to fit the collars into the chair. I'd love to see a pattern match video too. My other question is what staple gun do you recommend?
Sorry for the delay in replying Debbie, thank you for commenting! I’m planning on doing a detailed video on collars in a future video as I’ve not explained them in great detail. The staple gun I currently use is a Tacwise gun and have had no issues with it - hope this helps 😊👍🏻

It was such a lovely fabric to work with too, it was a great choice by the owner 😊👍🏻
